1/24/2010parentI have a freshman at the school - I have not been impressed at all! She has a IEP that the teachers didn't even know about until I called a meeting 2 months after school started. She went to guidance to complain about a 'bully' situation and was told she was being over sensitive ... really not happy - other parents are feeling the same way - there needs to be major focus on this school - grammer schools and MS are 'A # 1 why can't the HS follow suite?
12/16/2009studentWLHS is a great school to be at if you try to become involved within it. I happen to play two sports for the school and i am in a few other clubs in the school all of which have kept me very involved. the school lacks some hard work done by teachers as well as students. if you are not in a AP class or honors class the teachers seem to care less as if the students in those classes are not as important. Rules in the school have changed alot over the years my freshman year was the first Year Mrs.Bell became principal since then there were several rules that have changed that the students at WLHS are not to happy about for example students can no longer wear backpacks in the hall way. overall the school id average, i enjoy it at WLHS.
10/29/2009parentI like alot of the teachers
10/21/2008otherAs a former student of WLHS I would recommend the school to any parent. The school has attracted very well educated and dedicated teachers for its faculty. As far back as I can remember test scores have always been above the national average. That is a major aspect of any learning institution and WLHS certainly has proven itself worthy of the testing challenge.
2/12/2008teacherThe principal leadership at WLHS is awesome! She is so involved and dedicated to the students and parents. She is by far the best administrator that I have worked for in my 15 years of teaching.
1/19/2006former studenti was a student in Windsor Locks High School. i graduated in 2004. Windsor Locks High was a very good school that prepared me well for college. i was well taught and the entire staff was very supportive to my goals. also the sports teams are good in Windsor Locks so not only did i have a good time in class but i had a great time participating in the sport teams. the town is little, therefore the school is also little. the fact that the school is smaller that means you know most of the people in your class and also your teachers and staff know you by name and face. it is a great community to live in and grow in your education.
8/20/2005former studentWhen I went to WLHS all most of the faculty cared about was going to Stella's after school. I guess thats where the funding for student activities went to.
5/6/2005parentAs parents of 2 Windsor Locks High School students we have been very satisfied with the quality of the teachers, especially in the honors level classes, and with the availability of extracurricular activities. Somehow, though, we need to start better addressing the needs of academically gifted students in our school system. Every student should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential working in partnership with their families and the school system, including those who are bright and motivated. It is unfortunate that the state does not recognize this need and that the taxpayers of Windsor Locks prefer to finance sports programs and playing fields over academics if a choice needs to be made. Overall, though, the Windsor Locks school system does its best to provide a good quality, well-rounded education for its students. As parents we should support them strive for excellence in every aspect of our childrens' educational experience.
11/25/2004studentI'm also just a student at WLHS, I'm a sophomore right now and I like it here. It's the typical small school. It's the only high school in town so everyone knows everyone else. There aren't many extracurricular activites, and what we do have aren't that great. The teachers are nice and care about students and how they excel in school work. I don't exactly like the current principal because he doesn't have much to do with students here. Our SRO doesn't help our school much he just kind of walks around. Other than that our school isn't that bad, for the most part we all get along.
6/4/2004studentI'm currently a student here, but i think it would be best for one of us to make a review as another opnion. Our current principal, in my opnion, has been doing a good job, even though some of the things he must enforce are pretty pathetic rules that the superintendant thinks are important for our school to have. As of late, the superintendant seems to think she is our best friend, but this year is the first time we have ever seen her face. A great many dislike her. As for the teachers, they do a good job at teaching, when they can actually control us. There is a very small range extracuricular activities and electives that all students can take interest in. Currently we have a cop in our school, and he has been helping cracking down on the problems some students cause.
2/23/2004parentPrincipal rules the school by fear tatics. He has brought in police (school resource officer) to assist in discipline. The school board provides little or no help in budgets. With all this, the teachers do an outstandinng job and should be recommended highly.
