9/18/2012parentI HAD MY SON FOR KINDERGARTEN IN THIS SCHOOL AND IT WAS A GOOD YEAR. IN FIRST GRADE STARTED THE PROBLEMS. HIS TEACHER WAS SCREAMING ALL DAY LONG, SHE EVEN PUT THE KIDS THAT WERE NOT PAYING ATTENTION IN THE CORNERS OF THE CLASS, HORRIBLE. MY SON WAS CRYING EVERYDAY AND HE DIDN'T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL ANYMORE. THE TEACHER LEFT THE SCHOOL ON DECEMBER BECAUSE SHE SAID IT WAS OVERWHELMING FOR HER. A NEW TEACHER CAME AND DID HER BEST BUT THE CLASS WAS ALREADY BEHIND. THIS YEAR MY SON STARTED SECOND GRADE AND THE TEACHER IS EVEN WORST, SHE YELL TO THE KIDS, SHE TELL THE KIDS IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY ELSE IF THAT KID HAD A BAD GRADE ON A TEST, SHE SCREAMS THE WHOLE DAY. MY SON DOESN'T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL ANYMORE. I TALKED TO THE PRINCIPAL AND IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. SHE DIDN'T EVEN CARE ABOUT WHAT I SAID TO HER ABOUT THE TEACHER, SHE SAID THE TEACHERS NEED TO BE FIRM. I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE TO MAKE A KID FEEL ASHAMED IN FRONT OF THE OTHER KIDS TO BE A GOOD TEACHER. THE FEELINGS AND RESPECT ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE FCAT AND ALL THE STUFF THEY LEARN. IT USED TO BE A GREAT SCHOOL BUT I THINK NOW IT DEPENDS ON THE TEACHER BECAUSE YOU CAN'T COUNT ON THE PRINCIPAL TO HELP YOU.
3/20/2012parentThis school is rated one of the top elementary schools in Boca. That may be academically but as far as the teachers go from 3rd grade and up I don't agree. There is a great lack of professionalism, compassion and teachers don't like to take the blame for any of their actions. They do play favorites and if your child is not one of them rest assure they will feel inferior. Very upset about this and trying to fix the issue is like talking to a brick wall. Although my child is doing fabulous academically I do not credit the teachers for this. They need to go to social skill(s) classes.
3/6/2012parentHI MY DAUGHTER is going to start Kindergarten in September and I was looking to get some advice for reviews on Morikami and Del Prado. which one is better please?? Please give me your opinion as a parrent. thanks.
2/29/2012parentThis is my first year at this school. I am coming from another great Boca Elementary School. Because it is an older school the interior lighting is poor. I would also like to see more staff assist on a regular basis during car line. It is not properly managed and there is too much room for a child to possibly be injured. The classes are good and I believe that the education is up to par. Let's do away with these FCATs and stop stressing the kids and parents. Teach to learn , not teach to test. Other states have diagnostics but they are not nearly as intense as the Florida FCAT. There should not be a pass fail for a diagnostic.
10/18/2011parentI have two children that attend this school and I find most of the teachers and staff truly wonderful. With any profession, there are good and bad. And while some teachers are better than others, no teacher at this school is truly bad. They each have their own gift and specialty. And some of the teachers go above and beyone - tutoring kids for free after school and running award winning SECME clubs! In addition, I find the PTA fun and wonderful. No one is forced to participate in any fundraiser - and this year the PTA offered rewards with a donation, without even selling one item. Last year the PTA hosted a Wild Walk with Animal Encounters for the entire student body - for free! Plus each student got a free t-shirt!! The PTA provides the school with much needed funds for audio enhancements, educational tools, and much more! The women and men that help out as campus volunteers really have their hearts in the right place. I like the added security to the school as well. I do not think people/parents should be allowed on campus whenever and wherever they want. In addition to the added safety, a teacher's instruction is not interrupted.
8/11/2011parentIf I could give this school a ZERO I would. The teachers are lazy they talk badly about the principal and the students. If you'res not a room mom, your child is not the teachers favorite and you get zero attention from the teacher. Teachers do not return phone calls or they just yes you when they do. Parents are never allowed on campus. It's lack of unity and professionalism that will turn this school into a B rated school soon.
6/21/2011parentMy family and friends think this is a horrible school. First their was the principal who stole and was relieved of her duties there. Thr afterschool clubs were cancelled. They do not check ID's at the office and people randomly sign in and go on campus. The car lines have always been slow. PTA requests money on a monthly basis, using the kids as pawns, so if parents do not contribute, kids do not earn prizes. There is no gymnasium. No musical instruments taught. Teachers have referred to students there as "brats". Teachers have complained to parents about having a new principal and his lack of communication. Teachers show favorites and many do not return phone calls or emails within a reasonable time period. The school is supposed to use Edline, yet teachers cant be bothered. Could go on and on. Del Prado should by no means be rated a 10. They start coaching the kids for FCATS constantly, and receive more funding for higher FCAT scores. Their focus is all about FCAT scores, and not enough about the important items children should be learning. Del Prado and their staff are a huge disppointment, and I would highly advise if you have a choice to go elsewhere, do it!
6/18/2011parentGreat school, with great teachers, and they are always trying to involve the parents in different activities...We recomend it and love it!
6/13/2011parentDel Prado is an exceptional school where the kids are nurtured. Mr. Clark is a wonderful Principal and I am very pleased to send my daughters there. The teachers are the heart of this school.
3/14/2011otherAt my old school, I used to be so bored! After I transferred to Del Prado,I found this school academically challenging, and I love it here! This is the best school i've ever been to!
1/10/2011parentMy son has been attending since Kindergarten and is now in 2nd grade. I liked this school in the beginning but soon realized there was some interesting stuff happening behind the scenes. I had an incident when a teacher called my son an annoying brat, then about a month later he kept coming home crying because he was being picked on and no one was taking care of it and things of that nature. It has taken me a while to get things straightened out and since they have a new principal and vice principal thing have improved. I do not think this school is worth a 10 and am anticipating our future move to get him out of there.
10/15/2010parentDo not be fooled by this school's 10 rating. It is a very unwelcoming and disheartening place. My child went here for 1st grade, and I will always regret that year at Del Prado. The teacher was a nice person, but the teaching was slow and unexciting. Movies (fun not educational) were constantly watched even during PE! The behavior issues were out of control but NEVER addressed. The rules of the school and county made it extremely difficult to help or visit in the classroom. All I ever experienced was a coldness and lack of caring. I am an educator and have taught in many schools across the country, and Del Prado is not a place where learners are nurtured. When my child went to 2nd grade (at a different school in a different county!), she was extremely behind because of the lack of teaching. Don't be fooled!
3/17/2010parentI absolute regread have move my child to Delprado the teachers are very disorganize and have favorites in class.I fill like my kid is being discriminate
10/21/2009parentI love this school because my two kids go there. Everyone is so nice and helpful. My daughter has mrs.bozic and shes in 4th grade and my son has mrs.karpinski and hes in 1st grade!
10/3/2009parenti think they have the best teachers ever and that would be a direct reflection on the principle.
9/18/2009parentI cannot believe that I waited to be a part of this school and moved into the school zone only to be disappointed. The fact that the Principal has selected to departmentalize the school at the Kindergarten level is totally beyond me. The mandate issued by the Palm Beach County School District was that it commence at the 3rd grade level. My child changes to 3 different classes day. I feel as if this has impeded the relationship between 'one teacher/child.' I feel lost as a parent not knowing what my child is learning and from whom. I too share the feeling that I still have no idea of what my child will be learning this year. My friends who have children at other schools with stellar ratings do not share the same concerns of feeling lost and shuffled in the system. I feel as if I made a bad selection.
8/21/2009parentI went to Del Prado as a child and now my daughter is attending. I must say that as a parent I have NOT been impressed with the school at all. The 'orientation' or should I say meet and greet was nothing more than organized chaos. The first week of school is over and I still have not been informed of what my child will be learning this year.
8/10/2009parentDel Prado lives up to the hype. The academics here are excellent. I have two children in the gifted program and they have been challenged to learn so much, while still being part of a loving and supportive classroom. We have only had one teacher at Del Prado that left something to be desired, but that can happen anywhere. My only criticism would be of the support staff. When I visit the school or call, the staff is often rude. I have also found some of the cafeteria staff to be unnecessarily abrasive with the students. However, the most important part of any school is its teachers and they are excellent. Overall, we have been very happy with Del Prado Elementary.
7/28/2009parentWhen we moved to this area a year ago, we were constantly told that Del Prado elem was the best all around. With a 1st grader and a child entering kindergarten, we were excited to be in this school district. Both Mrs. Goldinger and Ms. Rey were new teachers to the school. We were happy with both teachers and felt they truly had our childrens best interest at heart. However, a few of the people in the office staff were less than helpful and often times RUDE!! I even witnessed such rudeness displayed in the presence of children..truly unacceptable! The cafeteria staff, although nice, didn't seem to be on the same page as far as the payment system was concerned. Myself as well as many of my neighbors were having MULTIPLE issues with the miscalculation of monies collected. The Principal and Vice Principle were very helpful in resolving our issue.
5/22/2009parentSchool has an excellent reputation with most families. But as with any schools, you'll get your fair share of teachers that should not be teachers to begin with. We have had positive experiences with most of the teachers and in hindsight, we should have requested a transfer of teachers early on in the school year when the personalities did not mesh.
6/27/2008parentMy feelings are a bit mixed. My children had A's and B's in the gifted program yet I removed them from the program and school midyear. I felt the program often focused more on quantity and speed over quality. I also felt that the program had little patience for higher maintenance children. That is children who are easily distracted. I haven't yet heard of the perfect child. I felt as if that is what you had to be to fit in and be welcomed in the Del Prado gifted program. This was not the right place to build my children's self esteem and confidence.
6/6/2008parentIs a school were everybody qualifies as 'gifted' even if they are not.So the ones that are truly gifted aren't receiving the proper education. The school runs on reputation. They have some trully gifted kids, that end leaving the school like in my case.
6/5/2008parentMy son is leaving Del Prado this year to go off to middle school and we are both sad. Del Prado is a great school with great teachers and great staff. We will miss everyone but will always have fond memories of our years there.
6/3/2008parentI have two children at Del Prado who will be doing into 2nd and 3rd grade in the fall. Both are in the gifted program. Every teacher we have had thus far has been outstanding! Mrs. Cannavale is the most loving, kind Kindergarten teacher. Mrs. Hock introduces the children to great artist in 1st grade -- allowing them to recreate their own Chagall. Mrs. Lackow is incredibly organized and my 2nd grader has learned so much in her classroom. In both first and second grade, the teachers have worked together as a team and I think this is very positive. The PTA is top-notch and the parent involvement has been high in every class -- both my kids have multiple room parents in their classroom. Why would anyone pay for private?
5/26/2008parentMy son has had a wonderful experience, so far, in Del Prado's gifted program. I have found that the teachers welcome parental involvement, and I have been in the classrooms many times for parties and special projects. I have also been able to accompany my child on field trips. I would love to see an improvement in the music department. Overall, I think that Del Prado is an excellent school.
10/24/2007parentGood academic focus and excellent attention to development of student strengths and extracirricular interests activities. Parent communication needs improvement.
9/27/2007parentExcellent. My child has been there and is in fifth grade. The principal and her staff and teachers have been excellent through all the years. I will be sad when my child moves to middle school, but am very happy about my child's education.
7/25/2007parentWe love Del Prado - we had a great year there and could not have goten a better education or experience if we had paid fora private school!
6/21/2007parentThis year was my child's second year at Del Prado. The office staff was always friendly and helpful. His teacher, Mrs. Antheil, was caring, energetic, and constantly challenging my son. I am very happy with the education my child has received at Del Prado.
5/13/2007parentI am extremely disappointed with the school and all the staff that works there. When I address the staff at Del Prado with my issues and concerns they seem to just look the other way and ignore the issue. Overall I rate this school very low.
9/25/2006parentI moved here from Buffalo a little over a year ago and informed my children that they will be ahead of the children in Florida as you here so many terrible things about Florida schools. Coming to Del Prado boy was I wrong. I am so thrilled to be apart of this school and how they work with the children is fabulous. They can pin point any child when and if they need help in a certain area and will work with them. Please understand this is a gifted school and by no means are my children in the gifted school program but the teaching skills, education to the children, closeness, caring and support is all there. I am so thrilled to be at this school and am glad they have helped my children in the areas that they need.
9/18/2006parentRated through FCAT testing as Palm Beach County's top elementary school, Del Prado puts a heavy emphasis on achievement, and it shows. Del Prado has never received a grade other than an 'A' on FCATs, and is rated in the state's top 100 elementary schools. The parental involvement is awe-inspiring. The school runs a variety of programs and extracurricular activities, from parents serving as room moms and guest readers in the lower grades, to field day judges and parents working side-by-side with their kids on the twice-annual nature trail cleanup days. The PTA offers a variety of programs for parents as well as events that parents and their kids can attend together. All in all, Del Prado is a remarkable place that functions remarkably well and strives for continual improvement.
4/23/2006parentA great elementary school with major parent involvement. The teachers are terrific and are very approachable and welcoming to parents and students. a lot of emphasis on FCAT prep and testing.
4/21/2006parentBoth of my children were in the Gifted program here -Mrs Breger is the gifted KG teacher--she is phenomenal!!!!She gives children joy in learning to read etc.My daughter loved her KG and wanted to go even when she was sick. Afterschool program with Lori Goldfinger was wonderful. I loved this school
2/28/2006parentOverall I would rate it as a very good school but there is some disparity between the 'gifted' and regular classrooms. The regular classrooms could use a little more structure. The extracurricular activities offer excellent choices and are well run. The PTA leadership, although active and dedicated, is not as open or welcoming as it could be to allow even more to be done for the school. It would be helpful if they were more open to participation and forthcoming with information to all parents in the school.
2/21/2006parentNice school with warm and caring teachers. No problems with this school whatsoever.
12/6/2005parentDel prado had been great to both of my kids academically and socially. They have both had the kind of teachers that you remember as an adult, the kind that really make a difference. Both of my kids are in the gifted program and I feel that has contributed greatly to their experience at Del Prado. I know of other kids that are not in the gifted program and have not had the same experience there.
11/30/2005studentWe moved from Texas where we homeschooled our children. We had heard that FL schools were not very good. We were very surprised. DP is an excellent school from all of our experiences to date. We have one 2nd grader and one 5th grader. Parent-teacher communication is excellent. Very structured environment. Teachers, though most are quite young, are very skilled and conscientous. Our children are gifted and are happy and challenged there. PTA is very active, although it is not very easy to get in to that group if parents work full-time. Overall, we are very happy with Del Prado.
6/27/2005parentDel Prado is an excellent school with a fabulous gifted program and teachers who care.
6/16/2005parentDel Prado is wonderful school that offers programs to meet a variety of needs. It is open to parent involvement and the staff is welcoming.
5/27/2005parentThis is my youngest son last day at Del Prado, so I felt compelled to post a review. I have only praise for this school, the teachers, the PTA, the parents and of course the students. My two boys enjoyed days at Del Prado that where enriched with not only academics but with diversity. Every child should have the opportunity to grow up in an environment where everyone really cares about them. Del Prado is a well rounded school that offers it all. I am so thankful that my children had the opportunity to attend Del Prado, to learn, to grow and to be happy.
5/18/2005parentVery nice school. Good results, friendly, understanding. Children feel secure and supported.
4/6/2005parentI think the gifted program is excellent. it really challenges my kids. I am disappointed the music program is not developed to generate high interest among the kids.
8/2/2004parentGreat school if you are a praetn who does not want to be involved in your childs education, parental involvement is discouraged. Events are planned during the working day when most parents cannot attend. Parents are excluded from award ceremonies, orientations (including pre term orientation) if they cannot be rpeent during the school day, pretty unfair and unrealistic in today's society. Seems they have American issues as well, Pledge of Allegiance is only said 'if we have time'. They fail on many levels in my book. Grades on paper are not the only things that count when children feel disconnected because family/parental involvement is strategically discouraged.
4/12/2004parentThis is a great school. 100% parent involvement, interested, high quality, caring and loving teachers. They thrive for exlence and give there all for the students. The only down point is the constant request for monetary donations. It can get to be alot at times.
