| 9/9/2012 | parent | I am truly blessed to have my children attend such a wonderful school! I have a daughter in Kindergarten and a son in Pre-K4. Their teachers have given them a great confidence in learning. My children love to go to school every morning to see Ms. Jenny and Ms. MingI They love to come home to share something new that they have learned. I am blown away on how far my son is progressing! I can't believe that my daughter is picking up concepts that are traditionally above her grade level! These teachers are masters at not JUST teaching a grade level curriculum, but also differentiating lessons to meet the needs of each child individually! If you want your child to not only succeed but also excel in all that they do, then this is the place to be! |
| 7/23/2012 | other | I went to J. Allen Axson and was happy. All my teachers cared about my education and made sure I was well prepared for every obstacle I could face in my academic future. I am a staight A student at LaVilla because of the amazing teaching. -J. Allen Axson Alumni |
| 5/4/2012 | teacher | Axson has long been known as a lifelong family for education; students who graduated years before still come by to check in with the teachers and staff. As a teacher, it is wonderful to work with professionals that love children; the teachers and staff at Axson take care of each other and the children with love. Axson proves how successful Montessori can be when you truly teach to the whole child and not just the FCAT. The children love learning, love school, and still do great on the test; in fact, Axson has been a top school for years without losing focus of what is really important-kids. |
| 2/5/2012 | parent | I have two children at Axson and everyone is so welcoming and warm. The teachers work hard to make themselves available to parents. No wonder it is among Jacksonville's top ten schools! |
| 12/18/2011 | parent | We are in our 8th year at JAA. It has become a second home for my children-giving them a chance to grow and excel! Both of them are tested gifted and all of their teachers have met and exceeded their academic and emotional needs. Axson educates the whole child and does not just "teach to the FCAT" like so many public schools. The principal offers true leadership to her staff-leading by example. My husband and I feel so blessed to have Axson for our children. If only there were a middle school! |
| 11/21/2011 | parent | I wish that more schools followed the Montessori method. We feel so lucky to have the opportunity send our children to J. Allen Axson. The way the classroom is set up allows all students to work on their own level. None of the students are ever bored or too challenged. They are able to learn on their level. The children are treated with respect and in turn learn to respect each other and the teachers and adults. There is a strong focus on character development. Couldn't be happier here. |
| 8/1/2011 | parent | Great school! Loving, considerate and respectful teachers and Principal. My son wants to go even in summertime. He's been asking me when is he going back to school all summer long. |
| 4/20/2011 | parent | I have 4 children that attend this school; we transferred from a private Montessori and I was a bit skeptical of how the public Montessori would fare in comparison. Axson actually is a BETTER environment, as it combines Montessori methods with some basic accountability for learning. This school achieves an excellent balance of those two factors---what an opportunity for our children to attend this school! The emphasis on taking care of the environment, healthly lifestyles, etc. really supports what we are teaching at home. We specifically chose this school over Jax Beach, despite the fact that Jax Beach had slightly higher "FCAT" scores. Upon examination of all the factors that are important for elementary education, Axson clearly came out on top. |
| 10/12/2010 | parent | It is a caring, loving place. |
| 10/12/2010 | parent | Awesome environment, small population, montessori setting. Parents are very involved. The principal and teachers are very approachable and helpful, they listen to the parents' concern for the students. Very personal and casual in communicating. We love this school for our 3 boys! |
| 10/12/2010 | parent | I love it!!!! My daughter too! |
| 4/27/2010 | parent | Great school with individual attention to each student. They really care for each child and make certain that they are in the best classroom for their needs. My daughter attended from pre-k4 through 5th grade and my son is in the first grade now. Wouldn't have wanted them to go anywhere else! |
| 4/26/2010 | parent | Excellent school. The care the teachers put into their classrooms is exemplary. My daughter was very well prepared for middlw school. Just have a very difficult time getting the extended day program to actually set aside the time and help the students with their homework. I have repeatedly brought this up over the years but just can't seem to get results. Many working parents can relate with the lack of time in the evening to set aside a lot of homework time before bed. Especially if you are a single parent of more than one child. It would be extremely helpful to get that minimum amount of time that they say they set aside for homework assistance. It just never seems to happen. |
| 1/8/2010 | parent | Axson offers a very nurturing atmosphere and encourages children to work together. The level of parental involvement is very high and everyone seems truly focused on doing what is best for the development of the whole child, not just academically. |
| 11/6/2009 | parent | Very pleased with how our dedicated Principal takes charge and makes sure this school has the most to offer our children. As I talk and network with different mother's in Jax, I learn that J Allen Axson is very involved with it's own activities and does a good job on staying consistent with old traditions in comparison to other elementary public schools, which of course can not be done without parent participation and F.A.M.E.. I like to tell people that our children are growing up in an innocent environment here at J Allen Axson like the way it should be. Great community and it couldn't be done without a good principal and wonderful parents. I am so grateful to have my daughter in such a admirable school. |
| 5/7/2009 | parent | Better environment for my children than the private Montessori they were attending. |
| 4/24/2009 | parent | We feel blessed to have this option for our children. Axson has been a warm and encouraging environment for both of our children (4th grade & kindergarten). |
| 11/12/2008 | parent | I love this school. It is a public Montessori. I have three children here and wouldn't think of sending them anywhere else, including a private school. The principle is wonderful and so are the teachers- very respectful of both students and parents. |
| 10/5/2008 | parent | This school is terrific. I have been as happy here as I was with my son at Discovery (private). My son is gifted and I am glad the teacher he has (Mrs. Snell) was able to recognize and intervene even going as far as to purchase special supplies for him. They also have a gifted program (one day a week per grade) that he will be going into and I am grateful they have that support. The principal and staff are all great!!! This is the best deal around for sure!!! |
| 9/26/2007 | parent | My daughter is in PK4 and this is her second year at Axson. They experiences she has received are more plentiful than she would receive at any private school. I appreciate the care that children show to one another and the individualized academic rigoir each child receives. I attribute this to the incredible teaching staff, leadership, and support personnel. My daughter is so lucky to be here! |
| 8/20/2007 | parent | Axson is such a wonderful school. My son is on his third year attending Axson, he is now a Kindergartener. His teacher is so sincere and loving, she cares about each of her students as if they were her own children. He doesn't like summer vacation and would attend school every day if allowed. They have taught him wonderful life skills and academic skills. I recommend Axson to everyone I come in contact with that have children. |
| 7/2/2007 | parent | Axson is one of the best schools in the county. The Montessori curriculum looks at each student and differentiates the instruction to the student. All of the teachers have the Montessori training which helps them to integrate the hands-on Montessori method and the state standards. The administrative staff knows each student on a personal basis., |
| 3/25/2007 | parent | The academic programs at Axson are great! They let the children be very independent. My children have gone there for 2 years. I have a second grader in the gifted program and a preschooler. I had a 5th grader graduate last year and she moved on the James Weldon Johnson middle school. This is such an amazing school. The preeschool program is great! It is very hands on. The parents are very involved. We have an amazing PTA always planning carnivals and readings and concerts for the kids. We also have say no to drugs and stop bullying programs. Andhere are also music, art, and PE couses available. There is also violin, choir, boy and girl scouting, and extended day programs available. |
| 3/19/2007 | parent | This school has been a blessing for our daughter. It opens up the chance for all the children to expereince the Montessori environment. There is also an abundance of parent involvement in each aspect of the school. The principal is very responsive to any concerns you may have. She truly cares for the success and well being of each child and her staff seem to appreciate her leadership style. Extended day is a fun filled organized program that offers extra learning opportunities for science, art, and games. |
| 1/23/2007 | parent | The teachers and the administrative staff are very good. We have been quite pleased since we moved from a private Montessori to the public one. The principal is very hands on and seems to know many of the parents/children by name. |
| 6/3/2006 | parent | This school uses the Montessori approach to teaching. My daughter has greatly improved since attending this school. The teachers are great. |
| 5/17/2006 | parent | Axson utilizes the Montessori method of teaching and each class consists of at least two grade levels. The teachers are very relaxed with the kids and emphasis is put on the arts and the environment. Kids are allowed to learn while still allowing creative outlets. I gave a lower principal score as the 'regular' principal took an annual leave for the 2005/2006 school year. The principal is more of a hands on leader and the kids love her which speaks a lot. |
| 4/26/2006 | parent | this a wonderful school, my daughter had a reading problem and they have gone over and beyond with providing her with tutors and other additional assistants.this a 'A' school and one of the top rated schools in florida. Axson has a wonderful enviroment for pre-k and 5th graders, this school teaches the children the meaning of self respect and sharing and mosting importantly helping others. |
