| 10/10/2012 | parent | My child is in Kindergarten at HFES and he loves it! His teacher is fantastic and I believe that she genuinely cares about the children in her class and wants them to succeed. My child looks forward to going to school and learning something new each day. The principal is hands-on, he's in the hallway to greet students in the morning and calling out names of riders with his blow horn in the pick-up line after school. My child was scheduled to attend another school in our district, I elected to transfer my child to HFES instead, for this reason my child isn't able to ride the bus to/from school but that's ok with me. I know it's early in the school year yet; however, my husband and I are most pleased with our decision to transfer. We hope the next six years are just as wonderful! |
| 8/12/2012 | parent | My child started HFES in the 2nd grade and it was a great experience. Third grade was ok, except the teacher she had needs to retire. Fourth grade is when it really started going down. While the teachers were nice enough, the classes had at least 33 kids in them and I had to re- teach my child almost every day! Homework was most nights for three hours! Not to mention, the school lost half of the kids to a new school so you would think the school would be better, not at all the case. They don't allow the kids to talk much during lunch time! I have witnessed this myself! Kids should be allowed to talk during lunch, even if it gets loud. |

| 7/18/2010 | parent | HFES is just fantastic. I can not say enough about the teachers that my child has had. Each one has been very open to meetings and input I may have. Homework loads can be heavy at times, but what homework she has is made to be fun and she has a blast with the projects. The school really maintains the latest in technology. I leave my child there knowing if anything comes up Ms. Rene in the front office is on top of getting me. My daughters only complaint (and I have heard it thru other parents) is that the two male "principles" tend to yell, and yell loudly at students. |

I have a child with ADHD and have had to jump through hoops in order to get the help that my child needs and still haven't been completely satisfied with the results from the administrative staff or the teachers. |

My daughter is in the 1st grade and she loves the school as much as we do. We know a lot of families in this area with children who also attend Hickory Flat Elementary, Dean Rusk Middle and Sequoyah High and everyone loves the schools in this district. I've even spoken with young adults who have graduated from Sequoyah and told me themselves what a great school district this is. The Hickory Flat area as well as the schools are top notch and I would highly recommend this area. This is a fun, family oriented, simple life community. We all do our share to keep it this way. |

| 10/8/2007 | other | I was visiting with a friend during the end of the school year in May of 2007 and what I witnessed was quite amazing. Like most end of the year activities at any given elementary school things can get quite hectic with 1200 plus students excited about summer. However, the school faculty during this time was calm, cool and collected. I saw Dr. Brooks especially displaying genuine concern for her students. I even saw a few tears shed from some teachers when the last buses pulled away for the last time. I would highly recommend this elementary school to anyone moving to the Canton area. |

The teachers are always willing to talk with parents - either in person, through notes, e-mail or phone calls, and will work with parents to make sure their students are thriving. While the school's population has been increasing over the years, the teachers and administration still manage to make sure that the children are valued as individuals, not as numbers or groups. Each teacher that has taught my children has been able, and willing, to adapt lesson plans to ensure that the girls are challenged and to motivate them to continue to reach new heights. Parental involvement is great! |
| 5/17/2007 | parent | I have had 4 of my 5 children in this school since 1998 to present. While some years are better than others, overall I am very pleased with hickory flat. It is a very sought after school in an area that is exploding in residential development. Starting with the school year 2007-2008, approx. 30% Of the students are going to a new school so perhaps the class sizes will decrease. Teachers are highly skilled, friendly, caring and communicative. The administration does an excellent job of keeping the school safe, clean and fun. Pta/parent involvement is excellent. There is still a small town feel to the school although student population has grown substantially. The school is a happy place and had many fun activities throughout the year: fall festival, field day, etc. I have 3 children in hickory flat at present and they enjoy school and their teachers. |

Classrooms are to crowded, and the most important, very insecure for the kids, easy to go in and out, it's to open, even the playgrounds. Extracurricular activities should include foreign languages, such as Spanish, Mandarin or French to prepare the kids for the real future! Very bad look with trailer, having lots of land to build. |

| 1/15/2006 | parent | Teachers are IMO overwhelmed. As a parent, I'm constantly having to ask about availability of tutoring programs for my kids and have yet to see them placed in the programs. Very disappointed with the lack of urgency. As for parent involvement, there is very little in my kids classes. It's like pulling teeth to try and get the majority of the parents to participate inside the classroom. It would be nice if the school did some upgrading and built more classrooms so they could get rid of the trailors. It would also be nice if the headcount in each class was a bit smaller so the kids could get more one on one attention. |

Very small town thinking and it is no longer a small town, real problem with all of the bullie's. School should have a zero tolerance rule. Principal & vice principal do not seem very interested in parents concern of bullies pushing around other kids. After 4 years of this, nothing has changed. |
