| 9/26/2012 | parent | I have 2 children at this school. My oldest has attended this school since 1st grade, he is now in the 5th grade. So I have 4 years experience with 1 child and 2 years with the other. One girl, one boy. This is an excellent school. The teachers are great and the Principal and Asst. Principal are both awesome. There is alot of parent involvement and the PTO is strong. The PE program is excellent. If there are any negative reviews for this school, it can only mean that those parents were not doing their part. This is a really great school, not a babysitting service. It requires parent cooperation, participation and involvement. If you care about your childs education, this is the school for you! #1 in the area by a long shot, possibly #1 in the state. It's a great group of teachers, parents and students. A great community. Check it out for yourself. |
| 8/7/2012 | parent | We recently relocated from outside of the area and transferred to SDES after about one month at another Douglas County School. What an amazing difference between the schools, hence the better ranking for South Douglas. The teachers expect a lot from the students and they make sure we parents do our part to make it happen. We our currently renting but plan to only buy a home in this area so that our kids can partake in the excellent education that SDES offers to it's students. |
| 9/13/2011 | parent | This is my fourth year at this school. The first year was an awesome experience. The teacher was more than excellent. The second year was mediocre. Last year was a horrible experience. This is my last year at this school and again I am counting down the days until the end of the year. I would never recommend this school to anyone and regret the decision to move into this highly recommended school district. They do not "appear" to want to work with a parent to make the child's educational experience a positive one. |
| 5/2/2011 | parent | South Douglas is a great school. The teachers and staff are excellent, courteous, friendly, and care about the children. Their test scores are always good, parental involvement is encouraged, and enrichment programs are great. My children have won various awards through SDES programs, both at the school and county levels, and the students here consistently excel in competitions and academics. The teachers at SDES come from many diverse backgrounds. The area is a western Georgia rural conservative region, and I live here understanding that (and preferring it personally). I believe academic excellence and a great environment for students should be important, and South Douglas does a wonderful job in both areas. |
| 5/7/2010 | parent | My youngest child will be leaving South Douglas this year, and is my last child to go through SDES. It has been a great six years. The teachers and others who work at the school always seem like they are happy to work there. The school is entrenched in the community and still seems to be the heart of the community with multiple generations of families coming to school events. |
| 4/30/2010 | parent | South Douglas is a Great School. They get little money & they use it properly. They do have problems with buses breaking down and out-dated air-conditioning, that can be very loud and distracting, but their test scores and parent ratings are extremely high. The School is well established. It's been around since the 1940's & Is still the Top Rated School in the County. We Love It! |
| 4/29/2010 | parent | We choose our house because we wanted a good school for our children. The test scores are consistently high for this school. The teachers and other staff have been friendly and welcoming. Although we have not been here long, we can already tell we made the right decision and can't wait to get to know everybody in this community. |
| 3/7/2010 | parent | This school needs more diversity. There are no African American teachers at this school, none. From what I understand it has been well over a decade since there has been any minorities. The majority of the teachers are middle aged, white, Protestant, females. I have felt undertowings, from other parents and staff ,of prejudices toward my family because we do not fit the profile for this school of white and protestant. Also, do not let your political opinions be known if you are liberal or even moderate, the majority of the residents of this community and the staff of this school express openly their extreme conservative leanings and are quite proud of them and assume everyone believes and votes the way they do. They would be wrong. |
| 2/24/2010 | parent | Awsome school! Love the teachers and the principles. Mr. Spence is great, and truly cares for the students. |
| 2/1/2010 | parent | My son is learning so much from Mrs. Goode and Mrs. Danger. I am so glad he has had such a great kindergarten experience. he loves going to school, and we love South Douglas. C.F. |
| 1/21/2010 | parent | This has been a great year! I was nervous about my daughter starting kindergarten, but the wonderful people at SDES have made it a great experience for her. The school still has that small town feeling that you don't get many places anymore. Their are some truly caring and extraordinary people working at South Douglas. |
| 11/30/2009 | parent | We love South Douglas. The teachers and all the staff are so friendly and genuinely seem happy to be there. My daughter can't wait to get to school everyday, she begs to leave early even. They care about the children, and their families. Every person gives of themselves to the students and the result is one terrific school! M.H. |
| 11/26/2009 | parent | This school and its employees have truly been a blessing. This is my child's last year at SDES, and it saddens me to be leaving. There is almost no staff turnover, the same people who were there when she started kindergarten are still there. Same teachers, aides , lunchladies, office people as when she began. They know my child and our family. Thanks to all of you for six great years!! A |
| 9/16/2009 | parent | My daughter has attended this school for 2 years and we love it! The teachers are so wonderful, the class sizes are small, and the parental involvement is great. |
| 8/27/2009 | other | I did an internship at this school. Im an education major. I just want to say that of all the schools I've ever had the pleasure of doing field experience at, this one was my favorite. I never minded staying late and I always loved getting there early enough to greet the teachers and students. I all around loved the school. LOVED it! |
| 5/14/2009 | parent | Our son is so happy at South Douglas. He has had so many great teachers through the years. All of the teachers and staff at this school are top notch. I have never felt anything but completely welcomed every time I enter the building. Every person there seems to truly care about every childs well being. |
| 3/10/2009 | parent | What a great school! We love everything about it. All of our children have gone to South Douglas. The school has caring teachers, principals, and employees. They all seem to really care about the children and their education. Everybody knows everybody else and their children. The PTA is very active and puts on great activities for the children. Go Bear Cubs!! |
| 2/25/2009 | parent | My son has had a great kindergarten year!!We absolutely love Mrs. Goode and Mrs. Dangerfield. They are so positive and funny with the children. They learn while they have fun. He has learned so much and loves to go to school every day. What a great school!! |
| 2/25/2009 | parent | My family loves this school. The teachers, staff, and principals are outstanding. Every employee seems to know every child by name. My boys are greeted every morning with a smile and called by name even by teachers and other staff that they have never had in class. The staff at South Douglas is five star, exceptional. |
| 5/4/2008 | parent | My daughter has had a wonderful experience at South Douglas. Every staff member cares about the students. My child has learned so much there! C. Johnson |
| 4/30/2008 | parent | After reading the latest comment I can't help but feel it is made out of context. The area is not really 'Metro-Atlanta'. You must consider the ratio of qualified applicants . How many are from different cultures per the ratio of qualified applicants in this area? This school is wonderful to the students and parents! My child receives lessons on a variety of cultures and events. The school cares for the children on a personal level. In so many schools the teachers are virtual strangers to the children. What do we expect them to learn? Indiference? South Douglas is the best as far as I am concerned! I am sure you will be happier as you get to know everyone. Welcome to our school! |
| 4/29/2008 | parent | South Douglas is absolutely a wonderful school! It doesn''t need any changes to its administration or staff. I know each teacher and administrator personally. Some of the faculty members do come from diverse backgrounds (Chinese, Portugal, Russian, and Latin) - which is great! Since when does 'not having African Americans' on a school staff make it less of a school? I think that well-rounded, kind, loving, experienced, motivated, and highly qualified teachers are the most important qualities that a school staff should possess. Just look at their test scores, writing assessments, parent involvement, student acheivement, and overall school pride. I would never send my children anywhere else. South Douglas can take great pride in what they have accomplished - they've earned it!!!! Go Bear Cubs! |
| 4/20/2008 | parent | I think the school needs more diversity. I can't believe that in Metro-Atlanta that this school has no African American teachers or administrative staff. Why wasn't a diverse staff chosen so the students can have exposures to other races. |
| 3/27/2008 | parent | I have had a child at SDES since 1998. My youngest is now in the 5th grade. South Douglas is one big family. The principals and staff know each child by name. They adjust to every students ability and challenge them. The entire staff always has a smile on their face and you can tell that they love their job. You will see from 15-30 parent volunteers on a daily basis and the staff always welcomes them. We also have an excellent PTO and Yearbook staff. From top to bottom this is the best elementary school in the county! |
| 3/26/2008 | parent | I absolutely have loved evrything about my son's first year in school at South Douglas. The care, the one on one activity, the staff. I simply cannot say enough good about this school. It is truly like a big family! Mrs. Crawford and Ms. Goss have made our first year so great! |
| 3/17/2008 | parent | This school is exceptional and its by no coincidence! The team spirit that binds each child with each teacher and staff/faculty member makes this school top notch! The caring and commited parents embrace this special place ... no wonder everyone wants to go here .. SDES is #1 in the County and let's keep it that way always! |
| 5/18/2007 | parent | We love this school. My child loves it here! She has learned so much. She has had wonderful teachers(McKinley-House) Everyone there is so nice!A truely great first year experience! |
| 3/10/2007 | parent | My child attends South Douglas. I have been very pleased with the staff and teachers. The principal and assistant principal get to know every child and they help make decisions that best benefit each individual child. The teachers communicate with the parents and have high expectations for every student. We came to South Douglas when my daughter was in the third grade. She is now in 4th grade and I have been pleased with every part of her educational experience at South Douglas. The extra opportunities this school offers to improve instruction goes over and beyond what other schools provide. The teachers are dedicated and they work hard to provide instruction on individual levels to best meet the needs of each child. |
| 12/11/2006 | parent | My children have been at South Douglas for 5 years now. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The teachers are highly qualified, loving and dedicated to the profession. C. Johnson |
| 6/30/2006 | parent | My daughter has been at this school for 3 years now and I wouldn't dream of her being anywhere else. The staff here is the best public school staff I have ever seen. The amount of knowledge and opportunities my daughter has had to grow is tremendous. My family has put off plans to move just because of this school. I can't imagine my daughter anywhere else. Thank you so much to all the staff for the way you all care so much about these kids and this community. |
| 5/17/2005 | parent | My son is in 4th grade this year & it's his first year at this school. We absolutely fell in love with the school. Everyone is so friendly, its just a big family. To me its so much like school was when I was in school. They do so much for the kids, in all aspects. There constantly having something going on. Overall, its a wonderful, caring environment for our children. |
