| 8/20/2012 | parent | My child just started at JES so I can only give an average rating. Time will tell. |
| 4/9/2012 | parent | I have found that Jefferson Elementary School is a wonderful place for my children. Today many parents are raising their children with no respect for rules. The teachers at JES are teaching these children the importance of behaving correctly, as well as covering the academics. The school has easy to follow rules, and the children are expected to follow them. I have noticed that other parents think this is a military style of teaching. In my opinion, this is a welcome to life way of teaching. Rules are made for us to follow and not to break them. |
| 7/12/2010 | parent | We just completed grade K for our 3rd child and had a wonderful experience! I wish every child could attend a school like ours! From my observations, as a parent of 3 here, the school seems to have dumped the very few programs that used to seem too strict to some of the reviewers here. Things were very fun and positive while still be structured. I am really amazed at just what our schools offers the students even after school fun! The parent/school communication is the best. The school constantly offers extras and outside school ways to improve our children's educational experience. They even provided a full summer curriculum so we don't have to create our own anymore. I believe this system cares about our kids long term and helps them achieve their very best. |
| 3/19/2010 | parent | We did alot of research about GA public schools before deciding on Jefferson a few yrs ago & we have been very pleased. Our 3 boys are excepted to be ready to learn when they arrive at school & be respectful to their teachers-strange idea I know. So the 'military style' comments seem a bit harsh to me. What is so wrong w/structure & disipline, especially when so many children are not taught how to behave properly in school by their parents. I haven't had any issues w/any of the teachers d/t being an 'outsider'-maybe I just pushed my way in. The only issue I do have is w/the carpool-absolutely awful!!! The admin doesn't seem to take suggestions for improvement (like why not let parents park on the front lawn for drop off/pick up or trying to have 2 lanes),w/700+ kids @JES carpool definitely needs improvement. |
| 4/2/2009 | parent | Unfortunately, this site would not allow me to tell the whole truth about this school even though there were some great points. Jefferson Elementary does have a great academic reputation but lacks in your child s ability to become self confident. I do appreciate the teacher that my K son has because she has put a lot of effort in to his learning, there's just not much room for being a kid after all is said and done. |
| 9/18/2008 | parent | My daughter just completed her final year at JES. She was there from Prek to 2nd grade and I am 100% satisfied. This is a quality school with A+ leadership and instruction. My twins are now attending JES and I am just as pleased with their experience. The schools is always seeking new and better ways to insruct. From: A pround parent of JES students |
| 4/6/2008 | parent | I get tickled when I read about the school being a military atmosphere. Could you imagine teaching or learning in a classroom when there is continual chaos outside in the hallway or lunchroom? Being quiet in the halls shows a respect for the learning that is going on in the classrooms. I have been there on many occasions and the children are learning but they are having fun doing it. If we complain about petty things and make excuses for our children, what are we teaching them? Certainly, not respect and taking responsibility. Parents should support the teachers and if you have a question, ask the teacher. I've found they are more than willing to answer any questions we might have. We love it a LOT more than we did Gwinnett! |
| 3/27/2008 | parent | I completely disaggree with comments about a 'military style' environment. I have personally popped in for lunch, or unexpected visits... and I have found that the staff treats the child a the appropriate developement level. I have seen many hugs at the Elementary and Academy level from many of the staff members.... and I always get the feeling that the staff truly cares about 'my' child. I'm 100% satisfied! |
| 3/26/2008 | parent | I have a daughter in Jefferson elementary, and she loves it.The teachers are great, and my husband and I are very pleased with our daughters progress in kindergarden, she is already reading first grade level books.WAY TO JES....... |
| 3/10/2008 | parent | The academics at this school are amazing, I do feel that the teachers are always pushed and stressed out. My kids don't even get a recess some days due to the amount of work that is required of them in a day. My children have excelled, but the military style treatment (always silent lunches, single file lines) gets a bit much sometimes. |
| 2/24/2008 | parent | Unless your child is a robot, do not not send the to this school. They expect the children to behave as mini-adults. The teachers do NOT work with children that are hands on learners and once they decide that your child requirs more effort to teach they want them medicated or removed from their school system. |
| 2/7/2008 | parent | Jefferson is a wonderful school, but I do have to agree with a lot of the negative attitudes pertaining to the Elementary school. Especially after having a child move up to the Academy-which is wonderful. I agree that the teachers seem very stressed - I think there is way too much pressure and restrictions put on them by the administration. There is definiterly a very high expectation for behavior which is very difficult for the students to achieve. |
| 1/16/2008 | parent | I'm tickled pink about this school system. I have a special needs child at the Academy.. and I find the staff there to be warm and genuinely caring in regard to not only my child's academic performance... but his personal well being. Having come from Clarke Co..... this is a welcome change. |
| 8/21/2007 | parent | The elementary school doesn't handle bullying well. Jefferson may be on top as far as academics, but that's where it stops. |
| 8/16/2007 | parent | The academic programs are great. Extracurricular activities are good as well. The only thing negative I can say from experience....is some of the teachers do talk down to the students and the PLUS program is awful ! However, the rec. dept in Jefferson has a wonderful summer/after school program where they let the kids actually play and have fun. The Elementary school is very strict as far as behavior. Walking in straight lines and silent lunches are well known. |
| 4/26/2007 | parent | You definitely want take careful consideration before coming to Jefferson. As parents of several children in the Elementary school we have been very disappointed with the bullying issues and the military type atmosphere. The prior neg. reviews are right on. They say they care, but their actions have yet to show this. You have to be one of them to have a pleasant experience. Teachers bully and talk down to the children as much as the children do to each other. The Academics are definitely advanced which can be good, however, the fun of school and the desire for kids to want to be there is hardly evident. It seems more important to walk single file and not say a single word. Think long and hard about your decision. Kids need to enjoy learning not dread getting up in the morning! |
| 3/24/2007 | parent | We were new to Jefferson for the 06/07 school year. It has been a challenging but exciting year. The cirriculum teaches above the CRCT level and my children have found this difficult, mostly in math. Even my gifted children have struggled a bit more than usual this year. But I love that they are learning to face these kinds of academic challenges early on. The teachers at the school are bright and full of exciting, fresh ideas. Their expectations are high but they know how to pull that out of the children and inspire them to be and do their best. Administration is helpful and ready to listen. I love that Spanish is one of the specials the children get in addition to art, chorus, music and PE. Parent involvement is high because it's expected. Twice a year parent teacher conferences are mandatory at this school. Great experience!! |
| 7/29/2006 | parent | We are very disappointed in the way this school handles it's on bullying policy, the reverse inclusion model, and the expectation for kids to be perfect. |
| 3/8/2006 | parent | I have two children in this elementary school. This school has unrealistic beahavioral expectations. It is a very tight nit school that does not welcome outsiders. There is no help for parents or students unless you were raised here. Academically the school is good but if your child will bring down there crct scores they will try to get rid of that student. The pressure to be a perfect child have made my first grader physically sick. Please give serious consideration before moving here |
| 8/30/2005 | parent | Scores seem high but so is our frustration with the leadership. Our experience is that the principal avoids dealing with issues head on. We see inequality in the way 'new' children are treated. And the people who have been here forever exploit that advantage. The children are held to a behavioral standard that is outrageous and sets normal kids up for feelings of failure. The teachers seem nice but frustrated as well...at least the ones who haven't lived here all their lives. Extracuricular activities are basically non-existent. Programs are started and not finished (chess club is an example). Again, test scores are high but what good does that do if a child's feelings of belonging and self worth are compromised, as are ours? |
| 8/24/2005 | parent | I have a son at the elementary level, and have found that their 'no-bullying' program is faulty. They say it, and it sounds good - but, it depends on whose child is doing the bullying. Maybe they don't consider words to be a tool when bullying. Jefferson is a very (very) tight-knit school system with people who grew up here or are related. If you are not already in the loop with these people, most likely you never will be. As far as academics, we have not had any problems. For the most part, they try to run it like a private school. Too many fund-raisers for kids to worry about!(or maybe, this is at every school) |
| 3/15/2005 | parent | If you are interested in academics, and academics only, then this is a great school for your children. I have one daughter that attends Jefferson Elementary. I would love for there to be band, chorus, etc, but they do not offer it at the elementary level. They have no plays or musicals. I, myself would like it if it were a more well rounded school, focused on other things besides just the academics. they are focused on having smart, perfect acting children, they do not allow the kids to just be kids, in my experience here. |
| 8/2/2004 | parent | I have two daughters attending this school. It has a very student oriented, goal minded program for all grades. The teachers are all very professional, and most are very helpful with some concerns that my wife and I have had about the education of our 5 and 7 year old daughters. Our oldest daughter has come a long way since starting 1st grade, this year entering second with a more positive attitude toward school. |
