7/18/2012parent Staff very friendly, however tuition is unjustifiably expensive @ ($24,000/yr)....and lunch is extra! My biggest concern academically... that graduates from TCS can perform well at college level in their freshman year at a good 4 year institution. Most graduates go on to Reinhardt Univ., community college and the like, not too many upper tier state institutions. My feeling is that for severely challenged students this school could be a solution, albeit an expensive one!
7/11/2012otherI was sent here from public school in the 9th grade. My experiences here were nothing but a joke. Sometimes I look back and feel I learned little in my high school career. Half of the kids are 'special needs' and are spoon fed the A's, and the other half are behavioral problems and arent in an environment where they can succeed. The whole levels thing is a joke as well. Preparing a child for the real world does NOT mean teaching them that they can get whatever thay wan't with minimal effort because theyre 'special needs'.
3/28/2012parentThe Cottage School provided just what our daughter needed to get through the difficult middle and high school years. The teachers and staff were always willing to go above and beyond the basic requirements to get her the help she needed. Probably the most important thing they gave her was the ability to see herself as "normal" and the self-respect that went with that. Their structured approach seems to work very well with students needing special education. Even after graduation they have been a continuing help to her in finding a path to independence. Their sports program was an important part of the experience and it was very well-managed.
2/28/2012teacherThe Cottage School represents a unique niche in education that heretofore was left sadly empty. Their dedication to each and every individual student is unmatched, and their staff is always willing to go above and beyond at every opportunity. If a student finds themselves struggling in their coursework, every teacher makes sure they find the time to help that student achieve success. The faculty often forsake their off-lunches and morning planning times to make sure students are accommodated. They give liberally of their own free time and ask nothing in return. There is no charge for any extra help. Each step in the TCS process builds on the last. No student is issued a diploma without a concrete post-secondary plan in place, monitored and approved by the administration and discussed extensively with the student and his/her parents. What each student chooses to do once they have left TCS with their diploma and post-secondary plan is out of the hands of the school at that point, but the Cottage School does everything it can within its doors to ensure that no student ever walks away without having had every possible opportunity to find their own flavor of success!
2/17/2012parentMy daughter was sent to this school by other family members. As her mother, I needed help with behavioral issues. I was promised I would be kept in the loop from the school, but that didn't happen. I was also disappointed to discover teachers were charging very large sums for tutoring of subjects that were to be taught at school. Oh - I am a teacher. Bottom-line, my daughter is now 18. All the "planning for the future" was worthless. She is not doing what we all thought would happen. I would NOT recommend parents spend such outrageous sums of money for a school that doesn't deliver what they claim. It took 3 years and the aftermath to realize how much the school failed all of us, but especially my daughter. The "sound" good, but don't deliver. One positive.... they have a fabulous sports program for all the students.
11/12/2010parentThe Cottage has provided an environment from which our child could gain social ground and experience academia without the distinction of a label. The founders and staff alike are dedicated and driven professionals who unite for one purpose, the growth and development of our children.
11/10/2010parentBecause it prepares the students to enter life, not just make time and grades.
11/8/2010parentCottage has top quality staff, which is a key element responsible for their success.
11/3/2010parentThe best place in the world for children with learning disa!bilities. It has made my daughter what she is today
11/2/2010otherYoung students who otherwise would have been forgotten along with their amazing talents, are redeemed and given their deserving place in society
10/29/2010otherIt gives children a chance when no other school can! What a wonderful school to support!!
10/29/2010parentThe Cottage School is Outstanding! My son now loves school...
10/29/2010otherIt is a great school thathelps special children
10/29/2010parentThe amazing and gifted faculty and staff are the almost "magical" force behind the numerous success stories to come from The Cottage School - our son is one among many. This incredibly dedicated and talented group educates, guides, mentors, counsels and coaches our underperforming and discouraged youngsters and leads them into confident and productive adulthood. My family will always be grateful for what The Cottage School does.
10/29/2010parentIt's been great for my 9th grader who has been in public school until now. He is now getting the attention he needs and I am seeing a huge difference in his attitude, self esteem, grades, etc. He also played a school sport for the first time. I didn't imagine it would be this great--money well spent.
10/28/2010otherI love the care and concern the staff shows for the students. I love the small classrooms and the positive interaction. I love the owners and their obvious love of children. I love that The Cottage School has saved so many lives of children who do not learn in a traditional school setting. I am so grateful my grandson has been able to thrive at The Cottage School.
10/28/2010otherIt is a structured school with small classes
10/28/2010parentOur daughter loves this school & it has helped her in so many ways. Socially, academically, self esteem & through athletics being part of a team.
10/28/2010parentThe Cottage School is simply Outstanding! Jacque and Joe Digieso are doing a wonderful job educating and inspiring young people with disabilities in their school. Their staff are highly educated, motivated, compassionate and tough! The entire faculty not only motivated their students, but hold them accountable for doing their part in getting an excellent education. The Cottage School have the state-of-the art computers, books and curriculum. Students can enjoy horse back riding to basketball on their breath taking campus. My nephew received and outstanding education and has been given a chance to succeed in life! Our family truly admire and love The Cottage School!
10/28/2010parentThe Cottage School is a very special place for students who learn differently. The focus is on teaching the students not only academics but also interpersonal skills in a safe environment. The young people develop self-confidence under the guidance of the wonderful teachers and staff. My son is in his fourth year at The Cottage School. I have seen tremendous growth in him and attribute this to the exceptional values, standards and techniques which are exemplified by the school.
10/27/2010parentCottage addresses each child and their learning needs as if that particular child was the only student in the school. Every child has individual attention and every need is met. Absolutely outstanding help and encouragement.
10/27/2010parentI love the cottage school because my child use to be an aggressive student. The cottage school has improved his critical thinking skills as well as his self confidence. I believe the fundamental that are being presented at the cottage school allows students to understand their self worth as human beings that are not typically performing on the standard level at a regular high school and/or middle school. Just because there are some children who learn different do not mean they are any different than you and me who perhaps have a learning curve.
10/27/2010parentThe Cottage School provides an ideal learning experience for that child who learns differently than those in the masses and greatly benefits from a structured, loving and uplifting environment.
10/27/2010parentI love the Cottage School because the staff really loves the kids they serve and do their best to bring out the best in each student.
10/27/2010parentIt is the most amazing school experience we have ever had! We are so excited to be able to attend! The teachers actually care about each and every child and want them to do well and succeed in everything they do.
10/26/2010parentTCS supports the goals of maturity, development and growth for every single student!
10/26/2010parentWonderful environment. Teachers and staff are great at working with children and bringing out their best.
10/26/2010parentMy grandson went to this school. I saw him happy for the first time.
10/26/2010parentThe people that work at this school are angels in human bodies.
10/26/2010parentWhen the Atl. public school system gave up on helping my daughter to succeed, I found open arms at the Cottage School. My daughter regained her confidence and blossomed while at the school. The teachers, staff and curriculum proved to be a winning combination.I am forever grateful to The Cottage School for helping my daughter succeed and become the young woman she is today!
10/26/2010otherBecause they do a great job with my nephew
10/25/2010parentIt was perfect for my son!
10/25/2010otherDedicated and skillful staff; stellar leadership; supportive parents; interested community; perceptive board
10/25/2010parentThis school has really helped my son! He went from failing to excelling! The school has the appropriate curriculum for children with special learning needs.
10/25/2010otherThe Cottage School has done remarkable things for my niece- she loves evrything about it.
10/25/2010parentThe Cottage School has had a tremendous impact on my son. Their individual attention, and emphasis on teaching the students to be responsibe for themselves have taught him essential life skills, and he has become a proud and confident student.
10/25/2010parentThey offer a great educational experience.
10/25/2010parentIt gavemy childrne a chance. They are productive adults wiht college degrees.Without Cottageschoolthey would not have graduated HS
10/25/2010parentI love the individual attention each student receives.
10/25/2010parentTCS is the place for our child. Among the list of things emphasized are 1) helping the student (and family) to understand the best learning style for them and implement that style in daily work, 2) personal responsibility - I love the "student as employee" set up with pay in TCS money for successful completion of contracted schoolwork , core values and principles, 3) individualized attention and instruction in life skills and academics, and 4) inclusiveness
10/24/2010parentGreat school, will never send my kids anywhere else!
10/24/2010parentThe Cottage is school is phenomenal. My son Omari spent 4yrs there and graduated from the Cottage School. Before the Cottage School, I had become lost and frustrated with the whole education system. I ve tried many avenues, including homeschooling my child. My son almost had pretty much given up on Education until he was enrolled into the Cottage School. I ve never met so many loving and caring people that genuinely care about educating children. My son went from a depressed individual to a happy and proud young man. Not only do they educate, but they also cultivate each and every student into responsible young men and women. My son went from a child that could have eventually dropped out of school; to transforming into a Young College Bound Man... I have the staff at Cottage School to thank for that. Because of that, I m forever indebted to them all.
10/24/2010otherthe staff are dedicated to the students.the soccer & track coach is awesome & she may even coach basketballin addition to teaching & club activities.this schoolprovides a need for all students to succeed socially.
10/24/2010teacherThe Cottage School looks at EVERY student as an individual. They teach to the student's strengths while understanding that learning is not always measured in a test.
10/24/2010otherIt has the best teachers!
10/24/2010otherEveryone who works at the school wears their hearts on their sleeves with a smile
10/24/2010otherMy daughter is truely living her dream as a teacher at the Cottage School. She is making a difference in her life by enriching the lives of young teens academically and socially. The tightly bound culture, support and structure of the Cottage School is exceptional and unique. A win/win environment for students and staff.
10/23/2010otherMy God Son loves it. They have found a better way to teach and it shows in the kids.
10/23/2010parentGreat school with small classes and patient instructors and staff.
10/22/2010parentThis school is unique in its approach toward educating and preparing students for life after High School.
10/22/2010parentMy daughter was in and out of schools for years. Public and private. She had depression and ADD and didn't fit in. Her teachers were threatened by her intelligence and couldn't deal with her other issues. Cottage gave her a place where she was celebrated for her uniqueness and was finally not the "odd girl out". She thrived there.
10/22/2010parentThe Cottage School has given my son a place to thrive and regain his confidence.
10/22/2010parentMy daughter is no longer being bullied, & now wakes me up in the morning to go to school. Also A's & B's now which have really boosted her confidence level. The teachers actually care!
10/22/2010otherThery are so helpful to kids who simply learn differently.
10/22/2010otherThe Cottage School is unique in its ability to recognize the importance of teaching to stuents strengths, honoring and celebrating their differences and fostering self confidence. There simply is not a school that does this better than The Cottage School.
10/22/2010parentThe Cottage School changed my son's life. Without the nurturing staff and leadership of TCS I don't know what would have become of my son. It was a life changing experience for our family.
10/22/2010otherIt serves a worthwhile need in Education
10/22/2010parentA truly remarkable school that enables students to receive a superb education that prepares them for real life.
10/22/2010otherThey have great teachers/coaches
10/22/2010parentAn amazing school that teaches children to love learning for life. The school's unique learning strategies encourage students to achieve exceptional things !
10/22/2010parenthelps so many children that could so easily be left behind, and not educated
10/21/2010parentI love the school's small classes and attention to learning details.
10/21/2010parentI know from friends the fine work they do to help students become productive and responsible adults.
10/21/2010otherBecause they help children learn by thinking outside the box. They teach them that they are not "supposed" to learn a certain way and they can succeed at school.
10/21/2010otherbecause of there no nonsense attitude toward those who do not follow the rules. They are kind but do not tolerate rule breakers There leaders are top of the education wheel. The most progressive school for those that need some extra help. They meet the needs of all who attend.
10/21/2010parentWe help young people become successful at life.
10/21/2010otherbecause they work so hard to help their students.
10/21/2010parentTwo of my siblings would NOT have gradauted high school if it werent for The Cottage School. I now work there to help with fundraising because I also would not have graduated high school if it werent for a school like TCS. They help kids who have given up and think they are stupid to re-gain their confidence and learn what they need to to move to the next step.
10/21/2010parentThis school gives my child the tools he needs to learn the way he is successful at. This is a school that highlights the fact that children do not learn the same way.
10/21/2010parentI have seen children come in crying and have seen them laughing after a week of being at TCS......
10/21/2010otherIn the 5 years that I worked at The Cottage School I saw many amazing student transformations. Students who would begin the school year, head down not speaking to anyone would transform into these beautiful butterfies!!!
10/21/2010otherThe kids there are great and well rounded and the parents are so appreciative of the staff who take such an investment in those kids.
10/21/2010otherThe teachers are amazing! The administration continually looks out for the best interest of the children. They truly want the students to succeed in school as well as in life.
10/21/2010otherThis school has helped my nephew tremendously in just a short amount of time. His self-esteem alone has improved 120%. Up until this year he has been in a public school and was struggling, now he is learning to deal with his austism and moving forward.
10/21/2010parentI have never seen a more dedicated and caring staff. Empowering those who have a truly challenging path.
10/21/2010otherThe Cottage School does a wonderful job in educating their students with the required curriculum while at the same time building self esteem and helping students see the "possibilities" that await them.
10/21/2010parentThe Cottage School has done so much to develop my daughters self esteem. She has CAP and would have not gotten to this point in a public school setting.
10/21/2010parentSmall classes, great teachers and family atmosphere.
10/21/2010parentHey were the only reason my son graduated from high school!!!
10/21/2010otherI like the cottage school because it focuses on supporting alternative learning children to be self-reliant, independent, and personal leaders. It is importatnt to me that my child learn from his experiences and grow to be a healthy citizen. The Cottage School sees the possibilities in the child and not the limitations. They support the learning and hold the child accountable.
10/21/2010parentMy son is dyslexic. He entered 7th grade in public school reading on a 2nd grade level. TCS improved his reading, restored his sanity and gave him and opportunity not only to learn and catch up, but to excel.
10/21/2010parentThe Cottage School believes in teaching to the child, not the crowd. Learning the skill, not just getting the grade. Learning to live in the real world, not just how to pass a test. All this while teaching respect and caring for themselves and those around them. This school has changed our lives and given my son an opportunity to be the best he can be. .
10/21/2010parentThey give alot of personal attention.
10/21/2010otherTCS provides a caring and nurturing environment for kids with special learning disabilities. Their small group focus and one on one engagement help youth who make get lost in larger settings to excel.
10/21/2010otherThis school is impressive in that it provides for the individual needs of every students who enters its program. The strong curriculum and structured program challenge students at their level, while maintaining a personal, hands-on approach to education. Each student is different, and The Cottage School celebrates these differences while providing a strong education.
10/21/2010parentThe Cottage School provides a learning environment filled with trust, respect, authentic concern, and individual accountability. The diverse student body fosters a school culture of the acceptance of differences that is inherent in all of us. The Cottage School continually helps my son realize his potential by jointly setting personal and academic goals, and developing a plan to met those goals. There are weekly assessments with all of those involved in my son's education, and he is constantly provided with any assistance necessary for him to achieve his goals. He is responsible for his actions, his behavior, and his success as it should be. This commitment to nurturing the individual student in becoming a responsible, self motivated, adult makes The Cottage School the great learning institution that it is.
10/21/2010otherThis school truly cares about the success of the attending students and alumni.
10/21/2010otherA very caring staff and Faculty.
10/21/2010parentThe Cottage School helped my daughter regain confidence in an academic setting.
10/21/2010parentThe Cottage School is a safe place for my son to explore his interests and learn how to be self-sufficient. The teachers are very encouraging and supportive. Their "way of doing things" promotes responsibility and creates a structured environment so he can thrive.
10/21/2010parentThe Cottage School has proven to be the best alternative for my daughter. My wife and I are so please with the progress that she's making and the job they are doing. They are truly an asset to the community and to the children attending.
10/21/2010parentThe Cottage School is an educational experience tailored to each student; no one falls inside the cracks. The communication, energy and positive atmosphere lats throughout the entire school year. This is what parents are looking for. The Cottage School is also what every student needs. I am thankful we found this school; it was the exhale I finally allowed myself to take. So many important life lessons are taught. The sports and clubs are phenomenal and the trophies are numerous. The Cottage School was not only our choice, but also our sons. Please take the time to see this school. You will be thrilled.
10/21/2010parentSmall class size, able to allow kids to shine in areas they don't normally in a typical large, public school setting. Since teachers get to know them, and classes are small enough to allow flexibility.
10/20/2010parentThe structure and curriculm
10/20/2010teacherI love this school because it provides opportunities for students to achieve success, realize their individual strengths and rekindle their dreams.
10/20/2010parentMy son attended TCS Middle School for grades 6-9 until a move to AL. This wonderful school helped tremendously with being responsible, being social, writing, creativity, organization, and leadership. Highly recommend this school for students needing it!!!
10/20/2010parentMy child has a learning disability and was told he would never go to college. After 7 years of nurturing at The Cottage School not only did my son attend college, but he has an Associates Degree and is one year away from receiving a 4-year degree. Thanks to The Cottage School!
10/20/2010parentThe Cottage School has been the perfect match for our daughter. She is now in the eleventh grade - her sixth year at Cottage. We are so thankful for the nurturing environment this school has provided to help our daughter flower and grow. We now have great hopes for the future.
10/20/2010parentSmall classes; the teachers are really dedicated; great technology.
10/20/2010otherThere isn't another school who takes care of their kids as well as The Cottage School: academically, socially, emotionally and prevocationally! Each child is encouraged to expand their strengths and work on areas for growth with an amazing team of teachers and a community family who fosters trust and security. Kids who have a tough time in school are nurtured through adolescence and find success...it doesn't get any better than that!!
10/20/2010parenti love the cottage school because it takes kids who can't learn anywhere else and not only teaches them but let's them realize that learning is fun and important. they also teach kids to be respectful of each other and to take responsibility for the actions of not only themselves but others.
10/20/2010parentThe Cottage School has made such a difference in my daughter's life. The environment is nurturing and caters to her educational needs. It also teaches her social and life skills that she wouldn't get in public schools. She loves the small class size and the extracurricular activities that she can get involved in that she would normally be excluded from in public schools.
10/20/2010parentMy son went there for 6 years and he was happy, safe and played in sports. Thanks to the cottage school he is now in college @ Clemson Life.
10/20/2010parentOver the years, I have learned as much if not more from the students than they have learned from me. I love it!
10/20/2010teacherThe Cottage School believes in educating on an individual basis.
10/20/2010parentGreat kids, great faculty and staff, great environment simply GREAT school!!!

10/20/2010otherWe are so lucky to have this wonderful school in Roswell. If you have ever attended a graduation from The Cottage School you have seen a very moving and emotional day. The success stories are a true testimony to the schools commitment to the students.
10/20/2010parentIt is a great "fit" for my daughter with learning disabilities. They have helped her blossom into a leader with high goals for herself.
10/20/2010otherTCS turns failure into success....teaches accountability and builds self esteem......it's a place where dreams can come true!
10/20/2010parentThe Cottage School meets the needs of every student and makes each student feel confident. In public school last year, my son had a horrible year. He felt worthless. The Cottage School has changed his attitude toward school. He enjoys getting up and going to school now.
10/20/2010otherGreat support from teachers, class size is small and teachers are there to ensure complete understanding of the lesson. Campus life is great; having fun while learning, what more could you ask for?
10/20/2010parentMy child has gone there for 2 years and loves it. What makes a parent more happy than their child wanting to go to school every day. The staff is GREAT!
10/20/2010parentIt sounds corney but it has literaly changed my sons life. He struggled in public and other private schools and and it changed his personality and he was a mess. He since has thrived at The Cottage School. Expensive but worth every penny.
10/20/2010parentThey are helping my son tremendously. He has never had time to play sports before because homework took so long to complete. He has just finished up with the soccer season and is looking forward to basketball in a couple of weeks.
10/20/2010parentThe Cottage School is a place where children grow into adults. With love and care and a great deal of support- the students are encouraged to be independant learners, curious students and to plan for and find their place in the community at large .
10/20/2010otherI love The Cottage School because it is dedicated to helping children with special needs be able to better comprehend the world around them. They give extra special attention to each student so that no one falls behind or feels left out. Public School Teachers could learn a lot from Cottage School Teachers.
10/20/2010otherThe Cottage School has a staff dedicated to the children they teach.
10/19/2010otherTCS did wonders with my kids and I see them continuing to do the same for others.
10/19/2010parentIt's the perfect environment for children who need flexibility in terms of learning styles and support. The kids are all accepted and motivated to achieve using real life incentive models. Children who may have struggled in a public school will find a school home here and truly come into their own. It's a great place for kids with special learning needs.
10/19/2010parentWonderful accepting atmosphere of all students. Students learn the reward of working hard, through support and real life incentives. Different learning styles are embraced. Great school.
10/19/2010otherThe Cottage School understands how to teach to student's strengths and bring our their best abilities increasing self concept and worth.
10/19/2010teacherIt's absolutely the best place to turn struggling students into independent success stories.
10/19/2010otherIt caters to students who cannot survive in large classroom settings and need more persnal attention.
10/19/2010parentThe Cottage School helps students that may not be recognized shine. Their unique way of teaching really empowers the students and allows all students the opportunity to succeed.
10/19/2010teacherBecause TCS builds a sense of self no matter the disability and obsticles one has to overcome. The sports environment is amazing too.
10/19/2010parentTCS is a small caring community where students learn the tools to success under the guidance of outstanding faculty and staff. Different learning styles are embraced and students' lives are turned around, yielding positive, productive, young adults.
10/19/2010parentprovides an opportunity for students that normally don't get a chance in public school to learn and achieve goals that they set for themselves.
10/19/2010parentIf your child has learning issues and needs teachers who are flexible and caring, this is a great school. Their "pay off" system for rewarding good academic work and responsible behavior teaches important job readiness skills. And unlike other small schools that serve special needs students, the Cottage School offers the full array of extracurricular activities that make high school and middle school fun: prom, sports teams, visual and performing arts, field trips, and more.
10/19/2010parentThis school allows children who are "outside of the box" to complete their education. The Cottage School has dedicated staff, numerous activities, and embraces parental involvement. I would highly recommend this school.
10/19/2010parentThe Cottage School allows the proper fit for all "square pegs"......and teaches students how to cope with and manage their learning disabilities.
10/19/2010otherIt helps students in real need for help. It supports and encourages it's students with a compassionate but firm atmosphere.
10/19/2010parentThis school no doubt helps students reach their true potential and beyond.I have visited the campus several times and speak from personal observations.
10/19/2010otherMy nephew was lucky to have attended this innovative and academically challenging high school. With small classes, he received instruction in the manner in which he best learns, and with the business skills integrated throughout the school day, he was prepared for real life. He graduated eligible for the HOPE scholarship and continues his education today.
10/18/2010parentOpportunities for kids who normally do not get one!
10/18/2010otherBecause the caring staff loves the students and their job is really a vocation!
10/17/2010otherI am an alum of TCS. This school gave me more than a college prep academic education--it taught me the business skills necessary to be successful in college and work life.
5/20/2010parentMy son has attended The Cottage School since his freshman year. After several years in public schools as an exemplary student, he began to have social/learning issues and it became obvious that public schools were not the answer. Cottage became a safe haven where my son was accepted and loved. The school offers opportunities (sports, clubs, awesome field trips, solid academics) that he couldn t have participated in elsewhere. My son needed the low teacher-student ratio and the one-on-one help. The Cottage system works; students learn workplace skills, accountability and self-advocation. Cottage teachers prepare students for college AND the workplace. My son is about to graduate and we re confident that the foundation here got will help him forge his path. Cottage isn t for everyone, but for many students it s a lifeline that saves them from drowning in schools where they re NOT accepted. I m grateful Cottage was there when we needed it.
11/19/2009parentMy son is in his 2nd year at TCS and doing great. He attended public and private schools before TCS. The other private school was a very highly recommeded school and advertises educating LD kids. At re-enrollment time, we were surprised to be told our child would not be comming back. Later, we found out that the school, while advertising LD education, is really commited to college enrollment. That's not a bad thing in itself, but I felt like my son was cut off since he could potentially skew their numbers. We found our options are more open at TCS and he is respected as an individual - and more than just post graduation college placement numbers.
11/20/2008parentThis school is mismanaged from the top down! Might be a solution for some but one of our primary goals was to be kept informed on our child's progress and areas in which they need to work harder. Total failure in that regard. They are very defensive when you question their organizational skills. We went back to the public schools.
4/29/2008parentThe Cottage School is an excellent solution for many kids. There are 3 types of students there: kids with diagnosed disabilities (physical, mental, emotional), kids that need a smaller classroom environment, and kids that have failed in other environments. The school has an innovative structure that teaches practical life skills like personal responsibility, meeting job requirements, balancing a checkbook; and is organized similar to a work environment. A very high percentage of students that graduate from TCS go on to college, and successfully graduate from college after having been told they could not even finish high school. The environment also has a lot of freedoms, but it is most challenging for students that have failed in other schools due to their never being held accountable for obeying rules (by their parents or school. TCS does that, and provides an environment where they can, if they choose, succeed.
4/28/2008otherAs an observer from Cambridge College this school is a great good compared to public schools. The students at the Cottage School give you a whole lot of respect. And the Cottage School is a friendly atmosphere!
3/28/2008parentMy daughter attends Cottage School. We were desperate because she was failing in the public high school she was attending. She is ADHD. We thought Cottage School was going to be our salvation. Well, it's not. The home room teacher is to call the parents every week and give you a report on how your child is doing. Well, we would talk to the homeroom teacher one day and he would state there were no problems and find out the next day our child had been missing many assignments. They do not allow the kids to use the refrigeratior anymore because their lunches were being stolen. The staff took their lunch period away to lecture them because of all the pink slips. They are not qualified to teach children with behavior problems. There are teachers there that have cussed at the students. Why pay for this???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3/19/2008parentWe had nothing but good experiences with the teachers and staff at the Cottage School. I wonder why a parent would keep sending their child to a school that they do not consider 'safe'? We found the curriculum challenging, yet accommodating to students' varied needs. My child flourished and developed leadership and self-esteem skills and to self-advocate. This is a fabulous school, especially when parents, teachers, and student work together as a team.
2/16/2008parentWe sent our son here from public school and the cottage school administration staff promised us that he would be academically challenged. This has not been the case. Our son has regressed so significantly since he has attended the cottage school. We have asked for help and to increase his academia but the school tells you one thing but does whatever they want. We have had numerous mishaps while i son has been at this school and i am truly concerned every time I drop him off for his safety. If you want your child to get a good education look elsewhere! this school is for the severely learning delayed! you know there is something wrong when your 6th grader tells you that they are bored at school and would like to be challenged more on tests.
10/17/2007parentIf your child has problems, they are sure to meet other kids with many problems also. Not a good environment.
7/3/2007parentUnfortunately, I've had the pleasure of sending my student to TCS and after only one year, I pulled my child out. First, let me outline the basic problems: 1) There is no challenge in academics. 2) Students can avoid doing any schoolwork by complaining about his or her illnesses. 3) The environment is unsanitary.
5/5/2007parentWe were also led to believe TCS would challenge our child in academics and still keep our child in a safe, drug free environment. We became uneasy about the organizational skills of the administration staff when we were sent a copy of an enrollment contract of another family. It had been signed and had the social security number of the student, name and address of the parents and amounts the family owed for that child for that year. The principal of the high school was not straight forward with us when we asked for answers about situations with our child. We had to go to the director of the school to get the truth.
8/9/2006parentMy child needed a safe environ., w/o bullying, but high academics. We were lead to believe TCS could challenge him in academics and still keep him in a safe, basically drug free environ. Well he felt secure, but he was not challenged in academics at all. Even after approaching the principal with our concern regarding the easy academics, they assured us that he would be challenged on a 'honors' type of teaching. This never happened, and we now realize this school is for the learning challenged child.
8/12/2005studentLike other schools, The cottage school has good and bad things about it. After reading some of the other reviews on here I was in shock. As a memeber of the student body I would have to say that some of the things said were blown way out of proportion. Yes, the school has problems like some of the administation and some teachers about one teacher out of all of them. Only two things bad is a pretty good school when they have some much more going for them. The Principal is great just like his wife who helps develop the school! Almost every teacher is willing to help you with anything. It is a great school!
8/1/2005studenti was actually a student at the cottage school, and i found the teachers were very unorganized. When i first started i was told teachers were to call home once a week, my homeroom teacher called adn thats it! The sports are well, lets leave it at that. The academics are way to easy for a student that just doesnt try in a normal school. If you want you high schoolers hand to be held, then this school has plenty of counslers ready with open hands. the faculty can be a real problem to deal with if you need to get sometihng done in an alloted period of time. And the levels thing is a joke, and a waste of my time.
6/13/2005studentI have been attending The Cottage School sense 2000 (6th grade). This school has been exceptionally great for me due to it's low student to teacher ratio and the great teachers that it hires. Middle School: The Middle School is a great place to learn for students with Learning Disabilities. The Principal is absolutely awesome at her job and is involved in the day-to-day activities in the school. High School: High School has been the best for me so far!!! I have loved the high school! All the teachers are willing to help me out at any cost to get me through the school year.
4/13/2005parentMy child graduated from the Cottage School with a Hope Scholarship and an academic scholarship to a Georgia college. He was well-prepared for post-secondary pursuits, not only academically, but in the areas of work skills and self-advocacy as well. The Cottage School curriculum does not expect each child to learn in the same way. Instruction is varied and tailored to the way in which a student learns. The small size of the school allows teachers and students to become a true community, and teachers take an active interest in each student. My child was given the opportunity to become a leader, to develop self-confidence, to participate in Varsity-level sports, and to discover his unique talents. He will tell anyone who asks that attending the Cottage School was the best decision he ever made. We are grateful to the dedicated teachers and staff who gave him this opportunity.
4/13/2005parentThe Cottage School changed our son's life. The school's mission is true and the students not only receive excellent adademics...they are taught responsibility and value of self. Students are given the opportunity to make choices and they are at the staff's disposal. The parents are given every opportunity to be as involved as they wish to be and are encouraged to do so. We are very pleased with the Cottage School and highly recommend it. The students are first and foremost and the number one goal is to lead and guide students of the Cottage School to success!
3/10/2005parentPoor discipline. Administrators tell you one thing one day and change their mind the next. Our child was no angel and he had some issues but he was treated very poorly. If you want to pay for a diploma with little learning, this is the school for you.
