8/8/2012parentThis school's administration are great at following rules...the student be damned. I did not care for the attitudes of this schools administration and tthe blatant one size fits all treatment of students. If your child is an individual I would NOT recommend this school
2/9/2011otherI have really enjoyed student teaching at Statesboro High School. The building is state of the art, but that is not what I am most impressed with. The faculty and staff are wonderful resources. They are educated, helpful, and genuinely interested in their students and their student's achievement. The students are a great group of kids. I was lucky enough to be in a mixed level classroom of 9th graders who were a joy to be around. Statesboro High School draws in students from many parts of the city, and it has a true mix of students. They each bring their own achievements and downfalls, but they are wonderful kids - a true example of the community of Statesboro, which I have long found to be a welcoming, gracious city.
8/26/2009studentI attend Statesboro High and I love the comuunity and the staff... Not to mention we have a brand new 4.5 Million dollar school house.
5/16/2009studenti just recently started attending shs. i hate it. i've noticed that all students really care about is sports. no one really cares about their education, nor do the teachers. they let the students listen to their ipods and text during class. i've been to three high schools in the past year and not one of them has been like this. the new building is beautiful, but the students are slack, and i think its really sad.
5/11/2009studentThe new school is gorgeous and is perfectly tuned to every student's needs.
1/13/2008studentDespite its first impression, this school is a hidden gem in southeast Georgia. Firstly, this school has a top-notch athletics program as evidenced through our many state and regional championships. Secondly, the administrators have effectively implemented the idea of smaller learning communities. These SLC's allow for greater intrest identification and specialization. Although block scheduling allows for greater student-teacher interaction and eliminates excessive homework, it has created a lower student-teacher ratio. Last of all, there is a great sense of involvment as many of our students are active participants in many extra-curricular activities. I would strongly recommend it over any private schools in the area.
10/25/2007parentThis school is a great school and I would recommend it over any other high school.
3/23/2007parentLike many schools, there are some teachers who care, many who are below average. The principal and the administration in general are terrifically unhelpful, unresponsive, and quick to cite how their hands are tied to help solve problems. No creative problem-solving skills. This school is aimed at serving the lowest common denominator, meaning bright kids are not the focus of attention. Some crime problems. We withdrew our child and opted for private school. Months later we still receive recorded calls from the school reminding us of the attendance policy our child appears to be violating!
5/14/2006studentFocuses mainly on sports. Way over populated and the teacher aren't that great. They are moving to block scheduleling whcich is messing up things for people who are taking AP class b/c they are making them year round. They are behind acadimically.
3/11/2006parentIt is true that the current school facility is too small for the student population, however, in the Summer of '06 a new High School will be built at the current location. Academics have a long way to go toward improvement. More community involvement could help this process greatly. You couldn't find a better football program - 2005 State Champs! Go Devils! If you enroll your child in AP classes, and you stay involved, your child will receive an excellent education.
7/24/2005studentThis school is large and very overcrowded. It's a school built for 1200 students that is currently holding about 1600. The lunch periods are too short & the lines are so long most students forgo lunch. The hallways are so crowded in between classes & it's hard to get to your locker. To the public eye it may seem that academics are the focus but they're not. Althetics (mainly football) are the most important thing. The administrators don't really care. Some of the teachers care & others don't. There is a decent band program & a somewhat unstable but growing choral program. There isn't a big variety of clubs to join. There is a good number of sports to play however. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone who wants a quality education.
