| 8/27/2003 | parent | I graduated from Oakland and my children have also, or are attending this school at the present time. My oldest is a sophmore in colege and is doing very well. I think the school prepared her for college level classes. I also still have 2 children in high school and unfortunately I feel one of my childrens' grade level class has been left behind in the standards for continuing on to college. I don't know where the problem lies but I can see a big difference in classes and what they can do acedemically. The other class that I have a child in is acedemically great. The extra curricular is very good. With the small school, most all students that want to paricipate in stuff, can. The teachers have been supportive during my childrens enrollment but I don't think Oakland offers a good enough package to new teachers to keep them there. When we get new teachers, they do an excellent job but they stay long enough to get experience and then leave. I would like to see improvement on keeping the new teachers. For Oakland being so small, I feel there is alot offered to the students. If they don't care for sports, there is the musical or other clubs that they can get involved in. Over all, Oakland is a good little town to raise children. |
