10/29/2012parentWe moved here in the spring of 2012 Our son just loves this school his teacher and his classmates.Templeton has made a difficult situation a pleasurable experience.
12/9/2010parentI suspect most of these reviews are written by someone other than a non teacher parent. Grammar correctness, highly inflated reviews. Myself, I am considering legal action against this school. Unaddressed bullieing, total unprofessionalism, sexism, etc. Where did they find these people that do every thing but teach. Egomaniacle, liberalists that even admitted sexism to me!! And the list goes on, I have talked to other parents with all having shockingly similar experiences.
12/4/2010parentMy daughter has been at Templeton for over 4 years and I am so happy I decided to send her to Templeton. I was looking for a school that was more diverse (which is harder to find in places like Bloomington) and that focused on the whole child, not just test scores and academics. I am an education researcher and know that while I could have afforded to send her to schools like Child's, she would have had a very different educational experience. If you are like me and want your children in a racially and economically diverse school with a holistic approach to learning and invested teachers, this is the place!!!
4/14/2010parentThe principal, teachers and staff are hardworking and genuinely care about the kids.
10/23/2009parentThis is my son's 1st year and he has progressed so quickly! He loves going to school so they must be something right! : )
10/21/2009parentit is an awesome school with so much diversity! I love teaching there!
10/21/2009parentmy little boy loves kindergarten here, and he has a great teacher
10/20/2009parentThe bilingual storyhours and food pantry programs run through the school are a great asset to the community, and teach students valuable lessons about diversity!
10/20/2009parentThis is my daughter's first year- Kindergarten and she comes home beaming just about every day. Her teacher, Mr. Glenn plays guitar in his class each day. I think it is great that this school emphasizes music and art so much, when so many schools are eliminating them or cutting funding.
10/3/2009parentIt's a very parent-involved school!
9/19/2009parentThis is a community of teachers who work so hard with students and have bent over backwards to make this a loving environment for out kids. When our children were born, my husband and I moved from Indianapolis to Bloomington JUST TO BE PART of this school. It is not the richest school or the 'Five Star School' that people are flocking to take their children to. This is a school who loves kids and deserves every kudo that they deserve. Please let me know what I can do to make this school a winner!
9/18/2009otherIt has been a good place to learn for my grandchildren. It has included not only a good education but excellent enrichment activities
9/18/2009parentThe teachers are welcoming, the children love it and they are getting a good education.
9/17/2009parentTempleton is a real neighborhood school with caring teachers and families. The combination of multi-age and single-year classrooms helps meet the needs of a very diverse student body. My children enjoy going to school and love learning, largely because of the encouragement, nurturing, and respect they have received from their teachers at Templeton.
9/17/2009parentI love Templeton because the teachers give 101%. They care about the children - in the classroom and out. It's where our children's sense of community really begins.
9/17/2009parentThe multi age environment is unique. The sense of community it fosters carries forward with all the students throughout the rest of their secondary education.
9/17/2009parentTempleton Elementary, with over half of its students receiving free or reduced lunches has amazing resiliency! Innovative programs survive and children want to make sense of the world around them. It truly feels like a neighborhood school!
9/16/2009parentGreat kids, great teachers!
9/16/2009parentCaring teachers, responsive staff.
9/16/2009parentTempleton is a great school! It is full of dedicated teachers and our boys are eager to go to there everyday! It is one of the few schools which has multi-age classrooms. Very pleased with this school all around!
9/16/2009parentWhat I love about Templeton is the K-6 classroom. It is a wonderful experience for my son and his classmates. The classroom is lead by two wonderful teachers who have high expectations of their students and those students live up to those high expectations.
9/16/2009parentTempleton has several blended (multi-grade) classrooms, including one ranging from kindergarten to sixth grade. The K-6 classroom has two particularly hard-working and talented teachers, and most of the students have siblings in the class with them, which works amazingly well. The kids learn to work with other people of different ages and abilities. It's the best classroom in a wonderful school.
9/16/2009parentTempleton has a wonderfully diverse and committed community.
9/16/2009otherI loved the mixed age classrooms!
9/16/2009parentTempleton is a true neighborhood school, very accessible to parents. But the best thing about it is its system of multi-age classrooms, where kids are always challenged to grow but also always valued for who they are.
9/16/2009parentTempleton is an all inclusive education. The teachers, staff and students are all dedicated to reaching the highest potential of each individual. Diversity is celebrated and everyone is supported. Templeton is a special place and everyone knows it!
1/4/2009parentOne thing to keep in mind as you read through these reviews is the author's level of awareness regarding education. I am quite disheartened to see parental complaints about Templeton fraught with grammatical and spelling errors as they complain about their child's education. I am very familiar with Templeton, having 2 children that attended and having substitute taught there. It is a very caring, nurturing, and curriculum rich environment. Monroe County has an exceptional reputation nationwide. Yes, there are exceptions in every school district, but Templeton is not one of them.
8/14/2008parentMy first encounter with Templeton was as a substitute teacher. I worked at every school within MCCSC and Templeton was my favorite simply because of the atmosphere and how they respected children. The school had a positive approach towards everything! Later on, I began mentoring children through my job in social work. Many of the children I work with attended Templeton at some point and often attended many schools in addition due to their family being transient, etc. I can tell you that Templeton has made a difference in so many kids lives. When they leave Templeton, they never forget it. They want to go back and visit because of the relationships they established and the way the school made them feel. Most recently, I have become a parent of a Templeton student. My son started Kindergarten just two days ago! I am thrilled to have him in this school!!!
3/27/2008otherTempleton is a wonderful school. They provide a warm environment for all the children.
9/17/2007parentBoth of my children are of 'products' of Templeton and have shown the school's philosopies and multi-age groupings works. My first was very advanced in certain areas (began taking high school mathematics courses while still in sixth grade) and the school was extremely accommodating in developing his talents. He is now a sophomore and is at the top of his class, and a nice kid to boot. The school's emphasis on lifeskills and inter-age education has been a huge benefit for my boys. My youngest is now in fifth grade, and is just your average student, but he has a great level of pride and confidence in his abilities and accomplishments, again due to the staff and teachers at the school. All parents want to take credit for the good (and I do....for some) and blame the school for the bad. Keep up the good work Templeton!
5/16/2007parentMy daughter graduated from Templeton in 2004. We were absolutely thrilled with the school and the education she got. The mixed grade classes were great, giving her the chance to progress at her own rate. Teachers, administrators and staff were all wonderful. No complaints.
1/11/2007parentTempleton is a unique school. My children are in a K-6 classroom. The older kids mix with the younger ones and there is a lot of student led learning. The 2 teachers and class aides act as facilitators, giving instruction and monitoring the children's progress with assignments. My Kinder presented a Power Point presentation to the class. They do break out for grade specific learning, but also spend time as a class. I think this reduces the temptation to bully and provides them with a sense of community in the school. I can't imagine what Templeton would be like if the teachers were dressed up - the interaction would be stifled. I believe the staff is dedicated to the children. The top positions have turned over in the last 2 years - I'm not sure for the better, but as long as the staff is dedicated, I'm behind them 100%. Thanks
12/16/2005parentTempleton Elementary, as with the district itself is the worse I have ever seen. They have no regard for communication with parents, even taking fieldtrips without parental notification. They allow bullies to get by with their actions. Their level of teaching curriculem isn't even up to what many other states have, in fact many other counties have. They stifle anything Christian, while introducing the students to Hinduism, Buddhism and many other religions. They have forgotten what separation of church and state entails. They often don't return your phone calls or give directions on homework. The staff looks like a bunch of unprofessional hillbillies in appearance, often looking sloppier than the children. I have never been disappointed more in a school that one of my children have attended or that I have worked at.
10/7/2005parentI think Templeton is one of the best schools I have seen. The staff is so good and caring. The way the classes are set up is so unique and fun for the children.
3/4/2005parentMy children have attended Templeton since 1999. They have gained so much from this diverse experience. The staff cares more than any I have ever seen and works incredibly hard to meet the needs of all students. The parent program for family literacy is outstanding. I felt welcome every day and loved the evening opportunities. My children are great readers and great mathematicians and as much as I would like to think this is because my husband and I are good parents, I know it is because of what they have learned at Templeton. My children love their multiage classrooms where they learn from children of all ages. We want to move, but won't leave the Templeton area. This is the best school I have ever seen for serving children who are poor, while serving all children.
1/30/2005parentthe quality of academics would be fine if the teaching staff was better and principal posistions are really terrible!
8/28/2004former studentThis is the best school ever! They made learning fun for me, and kept in interesting. The teachers here definitely know what they are doing. No child gets left behind- everyone gets equal opportunities. Going to this school didn't feel like going to school at all. I looked forward to getting up in the morning and seeing my teachers and classmates. They have wonderful programs and activities to trick students into actually learning! I loved this school. It gave me a pleasant experience I will never, ever forget.
