The school building is very old, a registered historical building and next year, is being refurbished while the current students will move to the old 'Lee High' property until the remodeling is completed. This school continues to rank highly in national test scores and students are continually challenged with the highest degree of learning competency. The students, teachers and administration deserve the best America has to offer and I strongly support any effort to make it a stronger school. |

However, Baton Rouge High School is geared more toward children who can teach themselves. The talented teachers on staff are the ones teaching the extracurricular classes such as drama, radio, art and television. The academic teachers are mediocre at best, so the children who perform well are the ones who need little instruction. If your child is not a self-starter and already ahead of the crowd in academics, maybe you should look at McKinley High School. It also has a free dress code, but leans more toward producing creativity in its graduates. McKinley's students think independently. This parent nailed it. Except there have been changes in the guidance department since then. Everything else is the same. |

| 6/18/2008 | other | i attened BRMHS and loved every second of it. not only did i receive a great education but i explored different cultures and socities that had i attended any other school in the state im afraid i would have missed out on. This school helped me decided what i wanted to do with my future. I am now approaching my junior year in college and still very proud of this school. 5 stars. (my freshman year we had higher scores than any other class and the school became a blue ribbon school while i was in attendance, so that gives me even more to be proud of) |
| 4/22/2008 | other | I graduated from Baton Rouge High in 2005, and I am still proud to say that I went there. I transferred to BRMHS from what was supposedly one of the best Catholic schools in the state, and even though I was an honors student at the Catholic high school, I was actually behind at BRMHS. That's how challenging this school is. However, most of my teachers were fantastic and really helped me to succeed. I was thoroughly prepared for college. My only complaint is that I think the administration is too focused on the best & brightest because they bring the most attention to the school. I loved my classmates though and appreciated the open-minded, diverse atmosphere. I could not have asked for a better high school experience and only wish I could have spent all 4 years there. It is undoubtedly one of the best high schools in the nation. |

The principal, Mrs. Greer, actively pursues to further better the school environment and has the students and teachers best interest at heart. You know that it is apparent when students notice that she has their back!!! |

All i can say is that if you want to be able to learn from the best of the best and be around a diverse group of people, while having fun and being encouraged to do well, then Baton Rouge high is definitly the place for you. I have been going to BR high since freshmen year, and let me just say that this is the best school i have ever been to. So many people each year try to get accepted into this schoo, and only a lucky few actually get in and stay in. The teachers are wild and crazy, but have your best intrest in mind. We are one of the top ranked schools in the entire state of Louisiana. I am proud to be a bulldog, and Mrs. Greer always has our back. I love BRMHS! |

BRMHS is a diverse blue ribbon school with tons of extracirricular activies including radio broadcasting (BRMHS, to my knowledge, is the only high school in the nation with both fm and am rodio stations). A few years ago, BRMHS was chosen out of all the high schools in the country to travel to Washington DC and showcase our amazing performing arts program in the Kennedy Center. BRMHS also has a tradition of being the smartest school around. This past year, along with everyother year, BRMHS had the most PSAT national merit finalists and AP scholars in the state by a landslide. There were 22 national merit finalists and either 52 or 53 AP scholars. This year I am also going on an international trip with a foreign language class. |
| 9/25/2007 | student | I am a freshman at BRMHS and I have to say it is very wonderful. Too bad I might be moving but oh well. I love the schools diversity and aspect in taking the open oppurtunity for extra activities to participate in.[Internation Heritage Festival, Latin Festival,etc.] We don't have many sport[football,basketball,and baseball] but it's all good. We still have intramual. :D I have to say though some teachers don't seem to know what they are doing but I make it out for the best. Mrs. Greer is really nice even though we hardly see her.lol As of after school things, parties are really fun, I heard spirit week was the best, and the fashion show we are having will be loads of fun. Mr. Barry!!! Is the best physical science teacher ever. He's the one to tell you like it is. |
| 5/17/2007 | parent | Baton Rouge Magnet High School is by far the best school my daughter has attended (both public and private). The academic side is both challenging and interesting. BRMHS offers a variety of subject courses ranging from the usual magnet offerings to the advanced, honors and college courses. After school activities and clubs are just as varied. The diverse population enriches the already energetic environment. Classes tend to be small with knowledgeable instructors and orderly students. I strongly recommend this school to any qualified student seeking an advanced education. |

Although I left the school during my second year, the experiences there were second to none. I would not trade my school years there for anything. The only complaint I have, besides the rustic school building, is the teacher involvement with students. The school is for those who are able to self-sufficiently learn, I just believe the teachers should be more in tune with the learning paces of their students. |
| 12/7/2006 | former student | I was a student at BRMHS until I moved to Colorado this past summer. It is a great school with wonderful academics. It's very challenging. The faculty is pretty good about keeping school spirit up. The only thing that might be negative is that as the faculty will tell you,'Baton Rouge High isn't for everybody.' Trust me. If you child tells you that they want to go to another school after giving BRMHS a try, let them. They'll do much better and you won't have the headache about their grades anymore. |

PROS: Many over-qualified teachers with +10 years old education experience. Extremely safe enviroment, and locally and nationally reconized for acadedemic excellence. BRMHS is also no party-pooper. Cons: The actually building are old, and could use some renonvations. |

It is by far the best preparation available in the nation for university study, and it teaches students responsibility for their own education. In general, Baton Rouge High teachers are outstanding, with only a few exceptions. Although Baton Rouge High is ranked something like 3rd in Louisiana, it is, in my opinion, not only the most outstanding school in the state, but one of the top 100 or so schools in the nation. Baton Rouge High's academic teams have placed extremely highly at national compeitions, and the school building is beautiful on the outside. It also accomodates the disabled, with an elevator having been installed in 2002. Baton Rouge High's diverse student population combined with a good faculty gave me the best high school education i could hope for. My only complaint would be towards the administration. |
| 5/26/2005 | student | I'am a freshmen at Baton Rouge Magnet High, going into my sophomore year. Baton Rouge High is Number 2 in the state and it is highly deserved. Personally, compared to other schools, it should be number 1. The classes range from small to large; it is one of the most eclectic schools in the nation, and we rank high in eveyrthing we do. The teachers are all unique, ranging from the incredibly colorful and cooky, to incredibley strict and college-professor like. The atmostphere is extremely diverse and liberal, with young teachers and incredibly old and experienced teachers. This school offers over 8 languages, a class for any area of art and beyond, it is the only school in the world to have an AM and FM radio, and it gives the students a good name. Anytime someone says he/she goes to BRMHS its known that they have recieved superior quality education. |

It is by far the best school in the parish, with no public school coming even close. The rigorous academic disciplines have made college easier in that I am used to hard work. The counselors are very informed when it comes to scholarships and other post high school opportunities. Another advantage is its diversity. The school is half black and half white, with several other minorities being represented in its population. You can't beat a Baton Rouge High education. |
| 8/25/2004 | former student | I graduated from this school 7 years ago. I transferred to BRHS from McKinley because BRHS had stronger academics and was in a much safer area. We never had a single fight, my peers were engaging then, and are successful now. I loved my experience, and am now in graduate school. Unfortunately, I've also witnessed the decline of BRHS that begin shortly after I graduated. Student fights are not common, but happen now and then, and the academics are not where they used to be when I was a student. The principal and the poor East Baton Rouge public school system are to blame, not the school. |

Both were good schools but I left Baton Rouge because it was not that great of a school. I believe that McKinley offers smaller classes and has better access to the college. Also, teachers at McKinley are more willing to teach the students individually. All people say that this is a great school, but it is because all the smarter people go there because of its reputation. They continue this reputation. Also, BR High can kick out low performers while other schools can not. BR High is a fair school, but McKinley is better. |

I have to say that this school is among the best, public or private, in the city, as I attended both. It's cultural diversity and rigorous curriculum more than prepared me for my collegiate experience, and upon looking back, my friends who also attended feel the same. Parents should race to have their children enrolled at this school, and any student who attends should feel priviledged, as a more valuable pre-college life experience I could not have experienced. |
| 4/6/2004 | student | I am a student at Baton Rouge High, and I must say that my peers consistently score well on tests and are generally better behaved than students at other schools that I have seen. The fault is not with the students, however, but with the faculty. In my opinion, they concentrate too much on our outward appearance to we can get awards. First off, the library is pack with the best technology, but it is rarely open at a convenient time, and the most the technology 'offered' is not available for student use. Second, we have spent thousands of dollars on an aesthetic plaza when many here would agree the building itself needs improvement. Ceiling tiles have been known to fall on students as well as small pieces of wall. Paint chips horribly from the walls, as correctly stripping previous layers would reveal lead based paint and poisonous fumes. |
