| 10/3/2009 | parent | Both of my children attended Live Oak and now my grandson is a senior this year. His little sister is now attending North Live Oak. All excellent schools and I have seen the results of an education at this school. Wonderful ! |
| 8/1/2009 | student | I've gone to this school for years and it's great!! Yes, we have our proplems here and there but we have great funding and we are about to start building our second high school! Live oak is growing fast. We have three elementary schools already and the old highschool is going to turn into another middle school. I cant wait!! Class of 2012! |
| 7/2/2008 | student | I ve been to live oak high school for my student exchange year 2006/2007! I loved it so much, all the teachers were very nice and every student seemed interested in me! I had so much fun at this school and it taught me all the american values! greetings from germany! :) |
| 6/3/2008 | student | I attended Live Oak K-12. The great thing about this school is that it has values and restrictions. I have seen droves of people who stopped renting in Baton Rouge, took their children out of private school, bought a house in Watson and placed their kids in Live Oak. Then of course once they were there they wanted to 'improve' the school. Those are the ones giving the bad reviews. I love the people who are from this area. |
| 4/12/2008 | student | I love this school. I've been going to Live since 6th grade and the teacher are great, but sometimes it seems like they pay more attention to the dress code than anything else. All in all, a great school!! |
| 10/9/2007 | parent | Be aware that this school, although excellent academically, is about as close to a military school as a public school can get. There is no PTA and meaningul parental involvement is discouraged. Signed, Moved Away and Happier For It |
| 5/9/2007 | student | I really like Live Oak. The teacher's are awesome and I have bonded with them so much. It's like they treat you like a person and not just a student. But there are times that I think that they let 'special' students get away with things more so than the other students. And sometimes they can be stricter on things that do not matter as much than on things that matter more. But all in all I am glad that I went to Live Oak. Even though I am leaving it for another school, I will miss it a lot. |
| 12/18/2006 | former student | I loved going to Live Oak I am a grad of '04. There main focus is not on sports but on academics. I is a 4A school but has a small town feel, everyone knows everyone! Coming from the EBR public school system, I have a better appreciation for Live Oak Schools! |
| 11/8/2006 | parent | The high school is a big disappointment. For a big school it's politics are very small town and narrow minded. I would think twice about moving to this school district because of the high school. |
| 11/6/2006 | parent | The policies of the live oak schools are all about who you know. You have to worry about the safety of your children while they are at school. I would try to live somewhere else in this parish so my children would not have to attend these school. We are in the process of moving ourselves. |
| 5/2/2006 | parent | We moved to this area just so my children could attend LO schools. We have been in the LO school system since kindergarten and can not think of anywhere else I would want them. All of the LO schools are concerned with the students learning and well being. Are there any 'bad' teachers, yes, but I have only seen a couple in our 12 years in the system. My kids have been a part of several school organizations and have enjoyed them and learned from them as well. |
| 8/5/2005 | former student | I graduated from LOHS in 2003. I think Live Oak is a GREAT school! I came to Live Oak in the 6th grade (not wanting to, but now i am grateful I made the change.) It is the best school I have been too. Unlike some of the other reviews, Live Oak is not a 'Bad School,' Parents that are considering sending your children here, disregard those posts, they are simply from some ungrateful kids who are putting their 'Two Cents In!' I found Live Oak a great school, with wonderful teachers, activities, and Office Staff. I worked in the office my senior year, I saw the true compassion the office staff and teachers have for the students attending Live Oak. I have told my young cousins (Who are being transfered to Live Oak) they are going to love the Live Oak Schools. |
| 6/26/2005 | former student | Live Oak High was the best school that I ever went to. There were so many things that I had the ability to be involved in. The teachers were excellent, and everyone else there were so nice. Being ranked seventh in the state says something about their integrity. I hope to send my children to Live Oak. This school is so much more involved with its students than some of the other high school in the parish. Go Eagles! |
| 5/21/2005 | former student | Just like someone else said 'good ole Boy' leadership, talk about! Whoever is defending LOHS, take a look at what you are saying. 7th in the state. Well WHOOPDEEDO! We are ranked 49th in education. Live Oak High is not a good school, and there are problems with people not getting along. The reason that LOHS is 7th in the state is because the CORRUPT, good ole boy system expells approximately one fifth of the student body each year. If you plan for your children to survive urge them to join 4-H, or raise them there. As for the military guy coming back to good ole watson to send his children to LOHS, DONT! This small town is unfortunately so limiting! |
| 1/28/2005 | student | This is one of the worst schools ever. Do not attend. |
| 1/20/2005 | former student | I graduated from LOHS in 1995. I went to college for a year, but decided on the military instead. I had my pick of schools, and had a broad range of choices. The teachers were attentive and genuinely cared about and knew the students. I am planning on bringing my own children back here once I get out of the service. |
| 1/3/2005 | parent | I attended Live Oak High School, and my children attended Live Oak High. I think it is a wonderful school, and it irritates me that someone would write something negative about our school. It's a small town school that happens to rank 7th in the state among public schools. The teachers are wonderful and caring. Not everyone is meant to go to college, but most Live Oak graduates do. I don't know where the 60% figure came from, but that's an outstanding number! You should really check around and compare before making that critism. That's not factoring in students who choose trade school. FYI - Lousiana has a dropout rate of roughly 40%. Live Oak's is less than 1%. My son graduated from Live Oak and had a 3.25 his first semester at LSU. It sickens me that someone would use a forum like this and cowardly attack a great school. |
| 10/20/2004 | parent | This is an old country school, with limited facilities and options. Leadership in the school is very 'good ole boy' and unless you are into 4H I would look elsewhere. My daughter complains about the teachers and how many don't actually teach you anything, if you can't figure it out on your own too bad. The last I remember the percent going on to college was around 60%, a number they bragged about but I thought that number was pretty scary. Denham offers a great deal more if you are looking at public schools. The positive to the school is that most everyone is friendly and have not had any problems with bullys and the like. I think for someone who has lived there entire life here they think this is a good school but we came from a very progressive school system in Georgia and there is no comparison. |
| 8/16/2003 | former student | As a Live Oak Alumni, I rate this school the top high school in Livingston Parish. I switched to LOHS at the start of my junior year, and was so glad that I did. There are so many activities for the students, and the teachers are very good at their jobs. It is also a wonderful institution for college preparatory classes. |
