| 8/16/2012 | other | OTES lives up to its wonderful reputation. It is one of the best schools in the Downcounty Consortium. The PTA is active and the staff are great. |
| 8/24/2011 | other | the school is a very good school the teachers are always doing thier best but the principle is horrible she is very races and rude to people that come in and to the parents that ask her questions. |
| 11/3/2009 | parent | The school has an amazing principal. When the principal is on her level the entire staff performs better! |
| 10/28/2009 | other | ITS GREAT! Good teachers, diverse students and staff, interesting classes and events. |
| 10/3/2009 | parent | Great staff and great ability to improvise with the limited space they have to produce year in year out terrific student results |
| 8/14/2009 | parent | OTES is a top-notch school. My child will be in 2nd grade next year and is thriving. The class sizes are small and the school is run very well. I have spent a lot of time volunteering in the classroom and have seen first-hand how dedicated the teachers are. The school is diverse and offers numerous before and after school activities. My child loves his school! |
| 7/27/2009 | parent | This school has serious problems. It is badly overcrowded, with enrollment more than 300 students over its capacity. This has created a number of problems, among which are oversized classes (my child's kindergarten class last year had 19 students), lack of adequate recess and little time for children to forge meaningful social connections. The wide spectrum of aptitude levels in any given class, along with inflated class size, means that instruction is often pitched to students in the middle-to-lower aptitude range. If you have a child who is already reading before he or she enters kindergarten, approach Oakland Terrace with extreme caution. Teachers aren't of uniformly high quality. Talented teachers seem not to stay; they are replaced by young, callow teachers who need professional development and mentorship, but aren t getting it at Oakland Terrace. After-school program offerings are not on par with those of other elementary schools. |
| 5/24/2008 | parent | OTES is a wonderful place for learning. My child is in 3rd grade and her teacher has dealt wonderfully with the varying learning levels and social skills of the children. My child is an advanced learner and the school accommodates these children by grouping the kids by level and sending them to different classrooms for instruction(so the teachers pretty much team teach). The student body makeup is incredibly diverse, which is something of utmost important in a changing world. The children are from all over the world and of various economic levels. While the school is really big, I think the staff and parent volunteers do a wonderful job...school is clean, organized, efficient and best of all, the teachers know what they are doing! |
| 7/14/2007 | parent | Oakland Terrace is a wonderful school. The class sizes are very small. My daughter's kindergarten has 15 children last year. The school has very high academic standards. My child is thriving there. Also, there are tons of extracurricular activities. I couldn't even begin to name them all. If you can dream it, you can do it. Really. Every parent that has a child there that I have talked to feels the same way. We feel so lucky to have this as our home school. |
| 4/17/2006 | parent | My children have had a wonderful experience at OTES and we are sad to leave this school. We have to relocate for a job and will be leaving the state and will be sorry to have to say good-bye to the wonderful staff, teachers and families here. The Principal and Vice Principal are dynamic individuals who greet each child by name and make them feel welcome every morning when they arrive. This is a school that has high standards for behavior and academic performance and my children are being challenged. I can only speak for K thru 2nd grades but have been happy with the teachers that my children have had. The class sizes are smaller thru 2nd grade so my children have had plenty of personal attention which has helped them excel. |
