| 10/7/2012 | parent | I sent my daughter here in Pre-K, kindergarten, first, and second grade. For the first two years, it was fine. No problems, really. But by the time first grade rolled around, I noticed something: The parents are all soccer moms, helicopter moms - whatever you'd like to call them. They were in everyones business. And by 2nd grade, the kids were turning the same way. They bullied my daughter because she didn't like soccer {a big snob family sport} and the teachers didn't even help her out. So we moved her too Glen Urquhart School, right down the road - a much better alternative. The head of school knows everyones names, welcomes everyone, the teachers are very well educated, and my daughter {even though she joined late} has a huge group of friends. Overall, if you like snobby people, chose Brookwood, if you like a sense of community, chose GUS. |
| 8/7/2012 | parent | Brookwood consistently delights. Small things are made into big teaching moments ("we have a tie vote; what are all the ways we could break the tie?"). Big things, like the death of a class parent, are made into events every student can understand, come to terms with, and learn from. Staff at every level are amazingly engaged and proactive. They truly seem to love what they do. Students learn their academics, to be sure, but this institution goes far beyond simply being a school. We are certain that it will have a tremendous positive influence on our three children throughout the rest of their lives. |
| 11/15/2011 | parent | We have two children at Brookwood and it has been a terrific experience for our whole family. Overall the school is warm and welcoming and it starts with the teachers and administrators, and filters through out the school. Our kids are thriving in an environment that challenges them academically, but that also encourages their artistic development, and their self confidence. We love the amazing art and music programs, the kids amaze us by learning a new instrument each year and by performing regularly at weekly school meetings. Traditionally, Brookwood has offered foreign languages starting from grade K. And with its emphasis on a broad world view, the school has added Mandarin as a language option. Yet while it takes a global perspective, Brookwood stays plugged into the local community. The students giving back through a range of service programs, and the school sponsors a number of community events from lectures, to Sustainability Fair, to Book Bash a great family event. |
| 9/23/2011 | parent | My family moved to the area a few years ago and looked at many school options for our children. We now have 3 children at Brookwood and have never regretted our decision. The school has held up to is reputation as being a supportive and nurturing environment. We feel our children are getting an excellent and comprehensive education and the Brookwood community was very welcoming to a new family moving to the area. |
| 5/27/2011 | parent | Brookwood is an envirnment where children can develop their skills as a member in a school community and through public service. Each class has a volunteer project that is ongoing throughout the year as well as a school wide project. The level of education, arts and sports is top in the North Shore of Boston area. |
