| 5/24/2010 | parent | This school DOES NOT deserve the bad press it gets! All of my kids excelled at Godwin High. Two have graduated from college. One was accepted to U of M and is still attending. Because it is small, they were able to play most sports & join clubs that they went out for. Few sports have cuts, which are so devastating to kids. Staff is always available & you will find them volunteering their time in numerous kids' activities, not just teaching. The principal is a nice person, but doesn't relate well to staff, kids, or parents and I could see improvement . Kids are awesome. A very racially & ethnically diverse school. Kids don't notice color or nationality Everyone hangs out together. No racial cliques. A friendly community. Parents do volunteer & could do more. in other areas. Most in sports or band boosters |
| 4/21/2009 | teacher | I have heard terrible things about Godwin Heights. They are not true! I have firsthand experience and have seen with my own eyes the closeness of the students whether they be rich or poor, black, white or Hispanic. This district is a melting pot of diversity in socioeconomic, ethnic and religious backgrounds. The students are so accustomed to it that they no longer seem to see one another as different in any way. This school and its people represent everything that we as well-reasoned Americans should hope for in our country. It is true that there are some kids who don't care, there are some parents who raise hell, and there are even some teachers who...gasp... show an occasional movie. There are fights, there are loves, there are even some clicks, but show me one place in the entire country that this is not the case. Come see us for yourself... |
| 4/2/2009 | parent | I remeber in the good ole days when there were no kid that did not want to go to godwin. Now I see teachers trying to be kids best friends. Then you have office personal telling parents that been long time godwin residents who loved godwin that they need documintion for good students when there are kids walking the streets who hardly go to school and their parents don't care. I have seen numbers of family still in district have their kids go to other schools in area because they have lost faith in our school system. They took ap classes away and took away some sports that kids love and fixed a pool that I can't use as a resident who pays taxes to the school for the ymca can charge me to use a pool that i already paid for so my kids and other kids can use in area |
| 4/28/2008 | student | Godwin isn't a terrible school at all. For most the people are nice and there are little in clicks. The school only gets bad rumor from students who think life is terrible. And with all that rumor it spreads to other schools and it is so unnessisary. That happens every where. And with Godwin having so much diversity for the most part we all get along and it leaves no racism. Sure it is different to talk smack about your own school and then hear someone else talking about it. You get mad. I know. But other than the negitave the positive runs on the teachers; the majority of them are amazing. And disaplining has changed so much. M.A.T(Madatory After school Tutoring) was created to help kids in classes and allow them to pass school so they can have a lead in life. Everything is heading in a good direction-Cate(Jr.) |

| 11/23/2007 | student | Over my years here at Godwin I heard how people said that Godwin have gone bad. I disagree, I think people have gone bad not the school. So if what one person makes a mistake. [I]don't blame in on everyones else. I am proud to say I go to Godwin Heights. What do[other schools] have that we don't. But I can tell you one thing. We have everything that [they] do, even more. we have each others.-Lam Luu(junior) |
| 5/7/2007 | former student | This school is a great district. The system is successful and fulfilling. I beleive that every child deserves a school with sich minority and cultural differences in their lives. Godwin Heights High School is a great school for everyone! |
| 1/17/2007 | parent | I applaude the Godwin Heights School district!! I believe in the teachers and their system. If it weren't for them and the closesness we shared, my son would not have graduated. Thank You Godwin!!! |
| 11/14/2006 | former student | This is a good school to go to.. |
| 7/28/2005 | parent | I was a parent of a student the attended GHS, I really think the school has it's work cut our for it. If I had to do it all over again I would have moved my child from the district because of the problems with SOME of the students. The teachers should not have to be BABY SITTERS. |
| 4/30/2005 | student | As a student (sophomore) at Godwin Heights, I find it dissapointing that people rate Godwin Heights so low. In all reality, the students are the ones who should rate their own school. I think Godwin Heights is a wonderful school. Wonderful teachers who do more that required. Every teacher I know will come before or after school to help a student. Many will even take time out of their lunches to help students! With a wonderul honors system, the students at Godwin Heights are given many liberties and continue to recieve more as we do not abuse them. Students at Godwin Heights are full of school spirit and involvement couldn't be better. Many people shun Godwin Heights because we are a different district, one who cares. With a new principal, Godwin is undergoing constant changes to meet demand. Student involvement couldn't be better! I hope this helps! -Jonathan Morley |
| 3/8/2005 | former student | As a graduate of Godwin Heights (1999), I find it incredibly hard to believe some of the problems that are occuring within this once great establishment. I have two younger siblings that are preparing to attend this high school, and to be honest I would rather send them to a school in Indiana. School is supposed to be about teaching, education (obviously), caring about the school and especially those who attend it. During my four years as a student, I was educated and I knew the faculty took pride in their jobs and did their jobs well. As of late, this school has become so sports obsessed, and so scared to discipline certain students that the basic principles in education no longer matter to the faculty or administration, and the ones who pay are the students. What a shame. I wont be attending my high school reunion. |
| 2/4/2005 | former student | Godwin Heithts is a good school. They have good teachers. But sometimes the teachers just let them do what they want. Alot of the time in class's they do nothing. Watch movies...play games...talk....gossip...and no work is being done. But in most of the classes there is hard work going on. Unlike alot of schools godwin takes in alot of students that live far away and have been kicked out of there other school. I dont think we need to critize Godwin Heights. I believe with there new principal they will be improving a lot. Their Marching band finished 1st in there flight at state, The current basketball team is 13-0, They are getting better teachers, the bathrooms are all better, there is no more mice. So I think that they have improved a lot over the past years. So dont put down Godwin Height! Theres problems with every school! thank you |
| 5/10/2004 | parent | Godwin Heights has lost all meaning of the word education, they have given up on teaching entirely. Students are subject to an unclean environment. Bathroom doors are falling off, there is no paper or pencils, and some classrooms need mouse traps. Godwin needs to stop blaming its failure on the students mistakes and take a look in the mirror. |
