| 10/9/2012 | other | I enrolled my children at the beginning of the 2008-09 school year. When I heard the principal, I decided to bring them and I am glad I did. Every moment has not been the best, but there is no perfect school. There was no real communication--now teachers use email, office hours and special meetings to reach out to parents. At first the PTA was absent--now you see them everywhere trying to get families involved. Discipline was shocking for the first year--now students who fight or endanger the school receive consequences for their actions. There is a new management company, new marketing, and new levels of accountability. Everything is not perfect, but you can see that everyone is trying. What I say to people who are and have been dissatisfied is, "what did you do to try to make things better?" If they can't answer that, then, they are probably somewhere else complaining. My son had to leave after the 8th grade because he chose to make decisions that would not be tolerated at Bradford Academy. The HS students are in their new uniforms with new attitudes. We have PreK now. Suffice to say, everyone has to find the best place for them--this is the place for my sons. New attitudes here. |
| 9/24/2012 | other | Bradford Academy is NOT a school where you should be placing your child(ren). I attended Bradford Academy for 1 year and so far has been the worst year of school for me. Teachers are great but not in the ways you'd expect. They are great at teaching what they teach but they are teaching stuff that is to easy and or are teaching it wrong. I am at a new school as a Junior and have no idea how to do anything they are teaching at this school (It's suppose to be review, too), Bradford is behind with theie teaching and it may be due to the fact they are taking kids from different cities and some kids have a higher education then others. At this point though, it's a teachers job to create one on one time with the students but are unable to due to the fact that 1) Students are so disrespectful, and 'play' to much, that teachers have to babysit the students instead of teach and 2) no ones allowed in the pod in the morning until first bell and students are kicked out of the school the minute school ends unless for sport activities. Your kid will not get the education they need at this school and promise you that your child will not be "College Ready" by going to this school! |
| 9/6/2012 | parent | Some of the people that are on this site are parents that the school does not want at Bradford any more anyways. When the school holds them accountable they take offense. Bradford holds the parents and students accountable for their actions and the people who are complaining on this site are just some that do not belong there anymore. The staff bends over backwards for the parents and students and that apparently is not enough for some people. It seems that it is perfectly alright for parents to belittle and scream at teachers, but when a teacher tells you how your student is acting in class and is honest the parent does not want to hear it. So they come on here and complain. Bradford is a wonderful school. My children have been going there for 8 years, and I wouldn't change a thing. I am glad that they are getting the "rif-raf" out of the school. Go someplace else and make trouble. |
| 8/27/2012 | parent | The instructional staff at the high school of Bradford Academy has difficultly negotiating behaviors of Black males. Perhaps it is because there are very few (if any) African American teachers. When teachers base their beliefs and opinions about Black boys on the stereotypical views perpetrated by society, they do these young men an injustice. As a result, they have low expectations of them, fear them and consistently discipline them for minor infractions. This is a major problem at Bradford Academy and as someone who has witnessed this first hand, I would never recommend this school. I have removed my young man because I will not allow this institution, or any institution the opportunity to destroy his self-esteem or his love for learning. |
| 6/1/2012 | parent | Bradford Academy is a fantastic school system. The teachers are dedicated and very professional. In fact, many of them have advanced degrees and donate a lot of time making education relevant and rigorous. Also, the school is fantastic keeping me in the loop: They send home progress reports every three weeks; I have 24/7 access to my child's grades; & the website is teeming with important information. Additionally, the school offers many opportunities for my child to be connected. There is a wonderful sports program, interesting extra-curricular activities, and an in-depth tutoring/enrichment program. Really, it's an excellent choice for a school. Now, onto a personal pet-peeve, many of the negative comments on this site are rather ignorant and/or uneducated--there are so many grammatical mistakes that it's painful to read: Referring to the principal as a "principle". As a parent, shouldn't you have learned this rule?! One is our PAL and one is an idea. Using "i" for the personal pronoun "I". Really?! There is a difference between they're, there, and their. Finally, complaints about the "dress code" are laughable because it's a school with required UNIFORM. |
| 3/14/2012 | parent | Bradford academy is poorly run institution for education. My daughter attended this school in 2007-08 and at first. I was impressed by her grades, the attitude of the faculty and the total concern for the students. But that came to an end when they let go the principle. I could not believe when I enrolled my daughter for a second year there. I was told that if I did not apply for free lunch she would not be able to attend. Furthermore I inform the people in charge that my wife and I make over $95,000 per year and that we do not qualify by state standards. And the person in charge told me "Sir the reason why require everyone to apply is because bradford receives money from the state for people applying ". I do not know if this is true but this what I was told. Well needless to my daughter does not attend this place anymore and we are well satisfied with our district schools which Redford union. Parents don't make the same mistake my wife and I made in our child early years of development. School is very important and without it we can go nowhere. So if you read all of these notices of concern and send your child there you really don't care too much about there future. |

We have limited books that are damaged that has been that way for so years now in every grade, and have the nerve to charge us so callded "free dress down day". The school is dirty and very junky.their are no janitors to be found.the security clean up ocassionaly.we have limited chairs.many chairs are broken and we have to use LUNCH ROOM CHAIRS TO SIT IN!THIS SCHOOL!this school is very very sad.it gets worse every year.i wish i could rate lower.lastly all this school cares about is basketball,money and image. |

| 2/7/2012 | other | This school is absolutely the worst school I've ever attended. Let's start with the administration, they care nothing about the children and their learning. And you can't come before or after school for extra help because the teachers keep their doors locked until 5 minutes before class. To me, that's simply unacceptable. Their rules on dress code are ridiculous also. Almost every day, the school's "security" would check to see if we had on the right colored socks, if not you were sent to the office for a write up. Maybe it's just me but there are things that are a little more important than the color of the students socks... their education! I could see if it were some world renowned private school but this is just a poorly run school with tacky uniforms. We weren't allowed to bring books home yet the teacher would say it's our responsibility to come up with the work the next day. With what resources !? The honors curriculum was not at all challenging as they suggested during the "interview". I'm am very happy that I got to change schools for freshman year. I now go to a National Exemplary high school and am very happy. At my school the teachers go above and beyond. |

The school might appear to be a well run and financed school, but once you look below the surface you find that it is rotten. The principal has no leadership qualities what-so-ever; his only talent is playing politics and making things appear to be ok. He is a tyrant and runs the school like a totalitarian state. The teachers that are still at the school try hard, but its hard to teach when you are miserable and over worked. Additionally, about half the students would be happy with a D average. Teachers can't teach students that don't want to learn. And any student with the intelligence and drive to succeed is held back by the bottom half of the class. I cannot stress enough to stay away from this school. |

We r 2 bring treats with labels my child is excluded from b-day celebrations.They tried to stop my child from going a trip 2 the Apple Orchard after I had paid for the trip due 2 her allergies.I calld the orchard 2 verify production measures.They failed 2 respond 2 my daughter s medical needs.She had an allergic reaction coughing no cold teacher didn't respond or call me when I picked her up at the end of the day I gv inhlr. Teacher is unprofessional arrogant and dismissive do not listen and uses poor tact & jdgmnt I met with the teacher & principle 2 resolve concerns was told I offend teacher I apologized expressing working together but no agreement 2 work together.Teacher told me shes a blunt person and tells it like it is & does things how she wants.This teachers behavior damages the reputation of the school.I've come 2 her regarding homework attendance & updates she's rude short loud & snippy.This type of behavior brings the moral & reputation of a school down.This may be our last year. |
| 6/23/2011 | other | I have been a student at Bradford Academy since kindergarden and am currently in the Bradford Middle School. And I can defenitley say that Bradford has changed BIG TIME. Everything changed completley when i was about to start 6th grade, thats when the principle left and they changed the whole system and the way it goes. Some of the teachers/ staff i feel is dedicated into making us better students and some i didnt feel as good about. And the I feel that most of the staff is more focused on rules and regulations and dress code and things like that. Plus some of the kids at this school are a bit disrespectful. Through most of my time in Bradford i remember I used to love this school but when i got in the 6th grade EVERYTHING changed. I really used to like this school but now i just cant wait until i finish 8th grade this upcoming simester and go to the high school of my choice. |

The Bradford Academy High School graduation ceremony on June 9, 2011, was meet with disappointment in various ways. The biggest disappointment of the event was the blatant disregard and disrespect of the Class Salutatorian. This is a model student who demonstrated excellence and intelligence in academics as well as citizenship, throughout ALL of her school years. However, during the ceremony, when other students were honored, she was not. How in the world could you place a Top Honor Student, on-stage, in front of her class and loved ones, and let all of her achievements go unrecognized and unrewarded??? Something is seriously wrong with ALL of the faculty and administration of Bradford, who sat there and allowed this to happen, and Bradford, may this go on your permanent record of 'Downright Disrespect & Shame' to a High Scholar Class Salutatorian. |

The staff is confused because of the lack of communication between the teachers and administration whose leadership abilities are questionable at best. Their resources and supplies are limited. I came in with great expectations for my students and was disappointed with the environment which, was very unorganized and non- supportive. The school appears to be in the business to make money not educate students who often come from "disadvantaged schools" seeking a better alternative. The school focuses a great deal on the dress code, rules. and regulations to be followed by the students. Please do not be fooled! This is just more packaging to make parents during the orientation feel that their children are coming to a high achieving academic environment. I left Bradford by choice and it was a great move! Parents please investigate and be observant when considering Bradford. |

I have seen first hand the Educational Skills of teachers (k -5) very dedicated to each child. The administration works well with parents, students, and the staff. I have enjoyed my expierence at Bradford. I have met so many nice people there. I plan again this year to volunteer my time there. For in all honesty my rewards have been best reflected in the smiles of the children at Bradford Academy. I thank the parents, the staff, the P.T.A., but especially the children for the priveledge to volunteer at such a wonderful school. It has been a great expierence. Thankyou. |

Unfortunately when the previous Superintendent was replaced with the current Assistant Superintendent the quality of leadership suffered greatly. The teachers still try to educate students despite this lack of leadership, but they are fighting a losing battle. My grandchild will not return and I strongly advise others to avoid this school at all cost unless there is a change in the administration. |

He's extremely smart, so it's nice to find a school that can challenge him. Both kids are happy with the learning and teachers, and I'm happily part of the PTA. There are lots of changes that are 'supposed' to go into effect this 2009/20010 school year, including changes in administration. There are too many new teachers, who may not be able to challenge the children. They need to stop being afraid of the children and in some cases the parents. This is also a parenting problem as is true at any school. Bradford needs to improve on positive goals for the children and helping the children meet or exceed their educational goals. The orientation felt a little negative, with a lot of focus on what will happen if the children or parents break the rules, etc. I would have liked to hear more on positive expectations. There are many things that we deal with on a day-to-day basis that take away from the teaching process. Many students face various challenges at home that are brought to the classroom: coming to school hungry because they haven't eaten since lunch the day before, homework is not done because there isn't someone making them do it, along with many other factors. We have students with varied levels of ability - for example a 5th grade class may have students with ability levels from 3rd through 6th grade. And we need to accommodate All of them!! Parents need to do their part too - not put it all on the teachers! Education begins in the home! |

For the most part, I am content with this school and the educational experience that my daughter has received. However, I am very concerned about the behavior of many of the students. It is very obvious that many of these students are facing some serious problems at home and in their personal lives. These problems are causing students to make bad choices and ultimately act out in school. A child's education is an invaluable investment and should be partnership between the parent and the teaching staff. To ensure the success of this wonderful school, a screening process should be implemented for the upcoming school year. This process would help tailor the school population to become more conducive to learning and productivity for the teaching staff. Behavioral issues manifest at home! |

The goal is to see that every child graduating from Bradford will be accepted to the college of their choice. However, in their pursuit of academic excellence, they're presented with major challenges that not only affect their teaching ability but the ability of other students to thrive in this environment. The composition of students is indeed unique. The student body is compliled of kids from various socio-economic backgrounds. A good majority of the children come to school with issues & attitudes that preclude the teacher from being most effective. Needless to say, the social climate leaves a lot to be desired. Without a more selective enrollment process Bradford will never meet its goal! |

The traffic is bad, but that didn't bother me if my child was being treated well. When I attended the orientation, I got the feeling that this would be a great place for my son. I believed that the teachers, counselors, and principal would be more understanding and patient in regards to the differnent maturity levels and the mindset of our your young boys. It seemed that they would inspire and motivate my child. I was so wrong. Granted the teachers are human beings, I feel that a teacher is or should have the ability to deal with the different personalities of our children, inspire them, and encourage them to be better. I was wrong. Very frustrated and disappointed. |

Where do I begin, traffic is an issue, due to the limited space in the surrounding area and the administration has decided to expand the school by having the high school built in the same area. The academic programs do not address the needs of the students and leave them unprepared to compete... judge for yourself by examining the overall school AYP report (annual year progress). If you inquire about your childs progress or make comments about the academic material, the staff and administration are immediately offended and take a defensive approach. I saved the best for last, parents of students in ninth grade were asked to purchase the required text for the English class. Save yourself the disappointment and trouble and find another school and do your research! |

They take little incidents and blow them out of proportion and they call you to come pick your kids up for the dumbest reaasons. And they don't mind calling you all the time to come from work. The teachers are not equiped to deal with certain situations and they want the parents to come sit in the class all the time. It's just crazy. I could not wait to get my daughter out of this school! She was un happy and not functiong well at all due to the stress of the classroom being out of control all of the time. |

I have become concerned about a number of things with Bradford. 1-The traffic is horrific anytime you have to dropoff or pickup of your children. Many parents are so ignorant and don't abide by the rules. Also, they make it hard for people who want to park and walk their kids to their classroom. I am particularly concerned about the learning environment for my child, who will be in middle school for the 2009-2010 school year. The behavior of many of these kids leaves a lot to be desired. I cannot fathom how my child can learn in this environment. It is a shame with the number of students at Bradford the participation at the PTA meetings. I doubt that we will return. |

Sadly, I feel it is a holding facility with alot of lipstick, to contain children who have been failed by their parents and other school systems. What they need to learn, such as life skills, discipline, and anger management, are not being taught to them at this school either. The increase in enrollment has not been a positive. The violence and failed structure are off the hook. Although administration is trained to be upbeat, the overall tone of the school has bad energy. For every child that they enroll, money is to be had from the state. On this note, I have seen students and administration treat other students and staff with total disrespect. I pray for Mr. Borowski, principle, to stop the further damage in these young lives that he is responsible for. Stop fooling people! |

This is my kids 3rd year there and they have had 3 vice-principals. They arent learning a thing. Tihs school is only there just to be there, and to build a high school, that wasnt thought through all the way. They should stop teaching at 5th grade. The teachers are too busy giving this baby work to the babies, the older kids in 3rd and up arent learning. They are holding my kids back form alotof things. The pricipal needs to get a back bone and run the school and stop letting the extra cirriculum teachers and students run it. Nothing is getting accomplished at Bradford, and I intend on reporting/writing a letter about it. What a waste of school. |

My son comes home wanting to do his homework & read books.However, I do not like the how the school is from Grades K-8.After school the upper classmates roam the halls singing very inappropriate songs, running up & down the hallways, & they do not pay attention to the staff when told to stop.No home training at all! As far as the MEAP scores, parents need to help their children with their homework.Bradford is suppose to be adding a high school.Not a good idea! Why add a high school when you can't control the kids that's already enrolled? |

The academic programs are very good, and the teachers provide excellent instruction and guidance to the students for class assignments, study habits, behaviour and personal responsibility. The MEAP scores do not represent the excellent educational system at Bradford. The school has grown by hundreds and they do not turn anyone away. These scores, unfortunately, are a representation of what children did not learn from their prior schools and why parents moved their children to Bradford. I am confident that our Principle, Mr. Borowski, will assist the teachers in helping each student and this will show in our MEAP scores in the next coming years. As with all great things there are down sides. We need to increase our parent involvement with the PTA, and most of all becoming a part of their child academic life. |

| 11/15/2006 | parent | I love this school, the principals, the administrative staff are all wonderful and caring people. There is a feeling of 'we care' when you walk into the front doors. It's up to date technology wise as well as it staffs qualified people to do the job of educating our youth. This is my son's first year in Kinder and although he came from a very good school this school challenges and pushes him to be his best. The homework is plentiful but very appropriate. He has learned so much about letters and writing and counting since the year started that it amazes me. He's always talking about what letters words start with and then making whatever sound the letter makes. It has been a joy to see him move forward and with such grace that his natural abilities shine through. Thanks to Ms. Lance and her support staff Ms. Heath! |
