Transferring into this school from Cadillac High School was a total culture shock, but I feel that overall she had a very successful year. TRHS has a wonderful music program; my daughter has been playing violin since she was in 5th grade, and has never encountered anyone quite like Mr. Shetterly, the band director. My daughter speaks very highly of him. I believe that he makes it clear to his students what he expects, and they respect him. My daughter also took part in the soccer program, which I cannot speak favorably of. Academically, I believe the school worked well for my child, she loved her instructors and the school. If you compare the MEAP scores with that of other schools in the area, you see that TRHS has some work to do. A less-motivated student might stray at this school. |
| 5/9/2005 | former student | I also attended Three Rivers Schools from K-12 and never had a problem with the environment in which I came from. I am very thankful for all of the support and counseling that I received and a couple of the teachers in the district are who made me want to become a teacher myself. I would reccomend anyone in the Three Rivers district send their child to the public schools there. I graduated in 1999 and a lot of my classmates went to college and now have great jobs too. We also had a very high level of parent involvement in my class. I am very happy with the Three Rivers schools, especially the high school. |
| 4/4/2005 | parent | We have had children in the TR schools for six years. We are quite pleased with most aspects of the school. It is a rare admininstration that hops around to see what they can do to shoot a potential hot spot down, before the student/parent/or teach escalates and the situation gets out of control. The administration at TR seems to know a lot about what is going on, and if they are alerted to a problem, they work quickly to solve the problem. My children have had teachers they respect and desire to study with. The counceling staff has been great with our kids. We are amazed at the difference in the system from when we moved here fourteen years ago! |
| 1/21/2005 | former student | I attend TR from K-12. We moved so that our kids would not have to attend TR schools. Especially the HS. It is a med-large school that I feel lacks the individualized attention needed for kids to excel. I received no career counseling or counseling period. My parents were not notified when my grads dropped drastically (a sign of problems). I essentially fell through the cracks at TR schools. I watched kids being bullied, beat up and drug use on a daily basis. (I graduated in 1989). I have spoke with recent grads and they say the violence is the same or worse. I know of two families who transfered their child from TR because of problems they were having, the kids are now doing much better in our school district. It doesn't matter if the teachers and programs are top notch if the environment is threatening. |
