12/18/2007parentI would rate the principal as one of the most defensive people I've ever met. Don't bother expressing your opinion here. Very average academic environment.
11/9/2004former studentI transferred to Hastings High School in junior year from a neighboring district; and I can honestly say it was the best move I've ever made. Hastings has a small town feel in a medium sized city. I was amazed by how excellent the students were at their extra curricular activities. Many students choose to play sports; the school has an excellent tradition on athletics. What the other reviews don't seem to tell you is that they also have a strong non-athletic activity program. The choir has been nationally recognized as one of the best in the nation. Nearly one in three students is involved in one of eight choirs. The band makes consistent trips to play around the world. Hastings is one of the few high schools to offer orchestra. They have a strong academic program, and yes they do offer floral arranging, which is a very fun non-traditional class!
7/25/2004parentThis past spring I had my fifth child graduate from Hastings High School. It is close to both St. Paul and Minneapolis but we have such a hometown feel in our schools with the teaching staff, secretaries, and principals. There is a genuine caring about each student and the overall goal at Hastings Schools is Excellence and Success! The school offers so much academically but also is strong in the Fine Arts and Industrial Tech areas, as well. A couple of my boys took some of the Industrial Tech classes and they far surpassed my expectations. All three of them have furthered their education by attending a two or four year college and have excelled in college because of their experience at Hastings High School. Many of the teachers have had a huge impact on my children and I feel blessed that they were fortunate to have attended Hastings Schools.
6/28/2004parentMy son had his elementary years in Salt Lake City, Utah. He came here as a Freshman and just finished his junior year. He said that getting drugs is so easy to do. He said that he is sick of hearing about how his classmates go 4-wheeling in the ditches/mud and hunting as extra cirricular, but I spose that's part of Hastings, not just the kids/school. I have heard that this complex is more like a sports arena with a school attached, for most sporting groups are pretty good in this school. My son has gotten away with taking a floral arrangment class and receiving a D- in Creative Writing without the teacher letting us know. That's poor communication. Hastings in general is a small farming community and the attitude of it's people proves it. It is not suburban. I would suggest going to woodbury!
5/18/2004parentI hate the school it doesnt give kids the opportunity that they should get. They don't strive for education, they only push towards physical strength. My child would be better off going to st.Paul school. There they have an equal balance of it all. And when the child is put down by a teacher it aint right. And when teachers favor kids with more money I want to come down there and take my daughter out. Good day.
