11/3/2009parentwe are the oldest immersion school in the state of mn.and the students, teachers and parents are always learning from one another.this is a wonderful dual immersion school.the staff is great with kids.
10/24/2009parentI love Emerson School because, my daughter is learning to speak a second language. I choose Emerson over a school in nicer area because of the culture my daughter gets.
10/7/2009parentEmerson rocks because it is a dual immersion school that embodies community and soul. The students, teachers and parents are always learning from one another. I love hearing my children speak in Spanish!
10/7/2009parentFabulous learning community!
10/5/2009parentEmerson has an amazing community spirit. The Minneapolis Public Schools recently went through the process of optimizing use of resources and the Emerson parents, teachers, staff, and community members stood together to fight for the integrity of the Spanish-English Dual Immersion Program. The program brings together native Spanish speakers and native English speakers to give both the gift of bilingualism and cross-cultural understanding. It is an incredibly unique environment.
10/5/2009parentthis is a wonderful dual immersion school. The staff is great with kids!
10/5/2009parentEmerson Spanish Immersion Language Center is more than a great school, it is a community and an extended family that nurtures children in a great educational environment. Emerson has not been very supported by the district and this would be a great recognition for all the hard working teachers, staff, parents and children.
10/5/2009parentEmerson is a dual immersion Spanish program that helps children learn in two languages, which makes them twice as marketable when they go on to higher education or the work force. It is a small, close knit community that deserves recognition.
10/5/2009parentThere's such a great community of parents and staff...our kids have a great accent in Spanish!
10/5/2009parentMy daughter, a native English speaker, was speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish while in kindergarten! Yay Emerson! Staff are warm, friendly, and committed.
10/5/2009parentThis is a warm and friendly school wiht fabulous staff and teachers. it is a spanish immersion so the kids are learning spanish quickly!
10/5/2009parentThe Spanish learning community is wonderful and we have the best teachers. I enjoy hearing my 8 year old speaking with and understanding her native spanish speaking grandmother in spanish. Emerson Spanish Immersion rocks!
10/5/2009parentI love Emerson Spanish Imersion School because my not is able to learn and study in Spanish. I love the culturally diverse setting and the small school size. I also love that it is a K-8 school.
10/5/2009parentI love that my kids are learning Spanish.
9/15/2009parentI don't think the score 2/10 fairly depicts this school as you have to take into consideration the demographics. ~75% of students are latino and many are Spanish speaking. Statistics show that students who attend immersion schools end up doing as well if not better acidemically by 5th or 6th grade. The school is one of several immersion schools in the state and offers an urban setting that can't be found elsewhere. Families who have children here are dedicated and involved and so are the teachers. I would recommend this school.
5/1/2007parentAn astounding school. Last fall, my daughter started kindergarten with no Spanish and unable to read. She is ending the year able to converse in Spanish, reading easily in both Spanish and English, and with math skills such as constructing and reading graphs, adding, and subtracting, etc. The teachers are dedicated, compassionate, and work phenomenally hard. I am in awe of their professionalism and skill. The school commitment to a respectful and healthy environment permeates the classrooms and hallways. I feel welcome 'dropping in' to the classroom at any time, and was impressed by the high level of parent involvement in the classrooms and on field trips. In one year, kindergarten no less, this school has given my daughter a second language, a love of learning, and a commitment to school that will benefit her through her entire life. Simply amazing. I am forever grateful.
4/11/2007parentI worry that rather than putting my son at an advantage by speaking English and Spanish, that he may actually end up behind academically. Also, the school is unorganized, the teachers are overwhelmed and very laid-back on discipline and order in the classroom.
1/23/2007parentThou the school is a great concept it is being run by the Minneapolis School district (can't manage money or children). I have two children in this school and the teachers and the administration have a lack of communication with each other and the parents. Our two children are being held back in class for a large number of the students who either lack the parent involvement or lack of language skills (Spanish or English) to be an successful in education. Our children are being asked to help the other children in class because the teachers are either overwhelmed or don't care. The majority of the schools assets seem to be going to hispanic families when it is a immersion school.
