| 9/5/2009 | teacher | Lanier is one of the best high school in JPS. We are ranked number 2 in JPS high schools test scores, and we have data to prove it |
| 7/17/2006 | former student | Lanier is a good. Some very successful people have come from Lanier. |
| 7/11/2006 | student | Lanier is a great school. The only reason people talk down to Lanier is because they haven't been there to see how it really is. The parents of Lanier students are very involved in the students activities. |
| 5/11/2005 | former student | Lanier is a strong and solid school, working to overcome the problems of day to day. Lanier has always been assosicated with drugs and violence, but like Lanier all schools are having that problem, but for some reason the other school are never in the eye of the media. The students are forced to overcome the media problem and some get caught up in the media view of the school and feel they have to live up to it. There are many students that do very well in their studies while they are at Lanier, do some reseach before making the statement that the kids are not equipped to do so. The Lanier Family has always and will continue to fight to make sure we are well known for the skills we have and not the community we live in. |
| 4/25/2005 | teacher | Apparently those that have negative comments concerning Lanier have not had the opportunity to speak with the faculty, stafff nor students. Lanier has made academic success this school year, behavior has not been a problem, the teachers, students and administration all have a common goal, one of academic excellence with the final results producing well-rounded, productive young citizens. There are a number of mentorship / adoption programs in place, so that negates the comments on parental and community involvment. 100 Black Men, Bell South, Anderson United Methodist Church, just to name a few are constantly present and offer the students valued support. There is a parenting center in place that acts as liason between school and parents. The doors are always open and the school is always receptive of constructive criticism. To the public, please make a visit before condeming a school that is on the climb to success. |
| 4/7/2005 | teacher | I think that this is one of the worst public schools in the City of Jackson. Drugs and violence, how can the good students learn when you have such a thing. |
| 3/24/2005 | former student | Lanier High School is one of the worst high school in Jackson. Their academic and athletic status is lower than the rest of the high schools in the Jackson Public School Systems. Most of their high school graduates are not ready for college life, because they were not well equipped with the things they need to succeed in life. Lanier can become a better school if there were more parent-teacher involvement. |
| 2/3/2005 | teacher | Lanier is a school in need of a lot of improvement. The students are not prepared to be in a high school environment and their behavior and quality of work is poor as a result. The school administration is not focused on providing an environment where teachers feel supported. Often, teachers are yelled at by administrators in front of students, or the administrators make demands of the teachers that are unreasonable. Policies are changed on an almost daily basis creating an air of confusion for teachers, students, and parents. |
| 3/19/2004 | parent | Lanier is a great school despite all the media attention. Test scores are improving greatly as well as parental involvement. Mr. Hughes has shaped Lanier into a very productive institution. |
