11/6/2009parentI think this school is the best for my child. I love the atmosphere, and teachers. I also love the diversity and presents of childrenh with special needs.
10/7/2009parentI love the diversity of the school as well as the patience of the teachers.
8/11/2009parentI love stix. I am so satisfied with the parent-teacher involvement and the diversity. I really hope they are able to add 3-5th grade. I have grown to love the students, and parents that my kids are used to
6/9/2009parentAwesome school. My daughter attended this school from preK until 2nd grade. I would recommend every child goes there. I love Stix ECC.
5/28/2009parentTwo of my three kids attend Stix and the third will attend when he is old enough. It is a very welcoming and nurturing environment. The school is going back to a Project Construct teaching method next year and we are looking forward to that. The feeder school for the Early Childhood graduates will be up and running for the 11-12 school year. That school will be 3rd-5th grade. Still no word on where it will be.
3/11/2009parentMy son is a preschooler at STIX this year and our experience has been fantastic. The environment is so stimulating and supportive. The emphasis on diversity couldn't be better. At the holidays, he learned about many traditions of different religions. I think the leadership in the PTO is good, but would like to see more parental involvement, which may be related to the fact that the kids there come from all over the city and many take a bus to and from school, so an extra trip across town for PTO functions may be difficult. That being said, we collected the most cans of any school in the city (quite a feat!) for the recent can drive and holiday and halloween parties have been very well attended. We are working with the school board on a new school for 3rd to 5th grade continuing the project construct theme, exciting!
3/10/2009parentBoth my kids attend Stix and I love the school and its teachers. I feel that my children are safe and they really do learn.
11/5/2008parentStixx is a great school. This is my daughter first year at Stixx as a preschooler and she loves it. The teachers are great
9/21/2008parentBoth of my children go to school here and we have been very happy. It is an incredibly diverse environment where my kids can feel like their international interracial heritage is almost normal. It is a beautiful facility. The kids have had excellent, supportive teachers. I also like the fact that the school is from age 3 to 2nd grade, because the preschoolers feel like they're finally going to a 'real school' but the younger kids don't have to feel intimidated by 5th and 6th graders. The one drawback is the high degree of transience which makes it harder to form really strong bonds with other students. Students transfer out each year as they try to get into the other magnet elementary schools.
5/23/2008parentMy daughter began this school this past 2007-2008 school year as a Pre-schooler. I had more than 5 people whom have children who went to Stix and they all reported that their children loved it and the parents were in agreement with the wonderful school as well. I enjoy the experience my child recieves.
5/7/2008parentThis school is a true gem in the St. Louis Public School system. A beautiful facility, wonderful teachers, great administrators, excellent philosophical approach, field trips, music, art...I could go on and on !
12/14/2006parentStix is a beautiful, well maintained, safe, and secure environment. The teaching and support staff are caring, committed, and good. The curriculum is sound and covers the basics well. My 5 year old has attended the Pre-K and Kindergarten program. There is a lot of focus on discipline (ie. standing in line without talking and sitting quietly thru a lesson plan for 30-40 minutes at time). I wish for more fun and flexibility in these areas for small children with more hands on, interactive, and shorter sessions with active moving breaks. Overall, learning is taking place in a productive and positive way. If your child is very active, individualistic, or has focus issues--the highly disciplined approach will require some adjustment. Specialist recommendations/suggestions for my child (ie. seating position in classroom) are not consistently executed. The atmosphere is very positive and a lot of learning does take place.
12/5/2006parentMy daughter attends Stix and I must say I simply love it. I had a great relationship with her Pre-K teacher and am now enjoying her K teacher. I look forward to sending her younger sister there next year. Vice Principal Head is a wonderful woman, and I like the Principal as well. I only hate it that my children are not able to continue through the entire grammer school experience in that the school stops at second grade.
5/31/2006teacherI am the site director for the Before and After School Program. I can tell you first hand that Stix is a wonderful, nurturing and educationally sound environment. We are a supppot system for families who require before and after care daily on site at Stix. I started at Stix in 1995 when our school was located on Euclid Avenue. My entity BJC collaberated with the St.Louis Public Schools to relocate the school at the current location ,647 Tower Grove Avenue. My staff and I consider ourselves members of this team, working with great educators and caring administration. I see children receive a sound education with a caring and qualified staff. Parent involvement is always encouraged at Stix. This is a great early childhood center. The children participate in art, music and PE classes. The field trips are great and support lessons being taught in the classroom not to mention fun and exciting for the students. Donna Tate Latchkey Director
4/30/2006parentI have two children at Stix, we are very pleased with this school. Staff here is tremendous! I feel as if our children are receiving a quality education. The teachers my children currently have, and have had are the best. We have very good parental involvement, and an excellent PTO. If you are looking for a school commited to your childrens education look no further, this is it! -
2/8/2005parentI know first hand that the teachers have the best interest at heart for helping their students acheive their very best and even surpast expectations. I saw my son do just that. He is filled with excited about learning and he loves going to school. You will always find the school and the grounds clean and free of trash. This school is a St. Louis Gem.
2/2/2005parentMy experience at Stix has been very excellent. I have two children that go there and they are learning so much. The teachers are so dedicated to helping each child do their best and i thank them for helping my children achieve that everyday. The programs at this school are very good especially the plays the kids perform are just very good.My involvement with the school has been good because you get to see what your child is learning and it makes you feel good to know your child is in great hands at Stix early childhood center.
12/11/2004parentStix Early Childhood Center has been a wonderful environment for my child who was ready for preschool at age 3. His teacher and the staff provide a stimulating challenge to his learning and allow him flexibility in what he enjoys doing. For the size of the school (very large) the organization and coordination of the administration is stellar. I appreciate the education my child receives at Stix.
