| 6/18/2011 | parent | I have a student at the high school and he really loves it. He enjoys all his teachers, even though he is the type of student who doesn't love academics. The teachers here go out of their way to engage the students and keep the parents informed. There is a nice balance in the relationship: not too formal and not too informal, but respectful and caring. The graduation ceremony was filled with accolades for the teachers. There are many diverse electives in order to engage the students and theatre, community service and sports are strong here. The grade scale has changed, so the older posts are incorrect now. While the school board is very conservative, the community is very progressive. Hopefully over time this will work itself out. |
| 2/19/2011 | student | This school is good if you're athletic. If you're not athletic or even remotely different from the norm there, the students are extremely judgmental and unkind. They also have a big drug and stealing problem. All in all one of the worst schools I've attended, student wise. The teachers are fantastic though. |
| 8/9/2009 | student | Oyster River is a great school. I have enjoyed playing sports here. There are so many great athletic programs and other extracuricular programs as well. The teachers all have fun ways of teaching to help fit everyones needs. |
| 10/22/2008 | parent | This is a great school that offers lots of opportunity for students regardless of their interests. The teachers have high standards, but back it up with support. Great administration really trying to improve communication and help kids achieve. |
| 3/26/2008 | other | I loved this school! So many opportunities and diverse classes/atmosphere. Teachers here actually care about students instead of pushing them along like most schools. |
| 3/11/2007 | student | The school does not offer vo-tech on campus students must travel by bus to other schools. The 7 point grade scale is also a struggle for children to do well. |
| 10/2/2004 | parent | We transferred into this school district three years ago. Our son has gone from a child who hated school to a student who not only likes school but is making the honor roll consistently. The teachers are always available for him and us. The work is challenging enough as the school grades on a 7 point scale rather than a ten point scale. The extracurricular activities are well run. The school building is nearing the completion of a beautiful renovation. We are very pleased with ORCSD. |
