| 9/17/2008 | parent | I moved here 2 years ago when my daughter entered this school as an 8th grader. We came from a 'good' school in PA. I too heard horror stories about this school but have been pleasantly surprised. Are there fights? Sure. (I went to school with a graduating class of 80 and there were fights 15 years ago.) Whenever you have hundreds of kids you will find fighting, cursing, etc. Heck, you can find that on the news. My son is now a 6th grader there and I am happy with his progress, too. My daughter-and son- are straight A students who both attend advanced placement classes. There is a wonderful band teacher and kids are given the opportunity to swim during their lunch break instead of hanging out in the recess yard. I also believe that if you have a problem, you help develop a solution. |
| 5/2/2007 | parent | My son just entered sixth grade in Sept 2006. He is an honor roll student, athlete, and I have raised him to be a respectable young man. He was warned about how violent this school was toward the entering sixth graders and it was true. Daily, children are punched, beaten, sworn at,bullied, abused and stolen from by their peers and it is downright shocking to be amongst the student body as I have been several times. Their manner of dress, language, and behavior is nothing less than disgraceful at most times and if more parents would become more involved in instilling morals and old fashioned good behavior into their children,it could only help to make East middle a better place to be. I fear for the childrens safety there. The teachers seem to be ineffective or not interested in addressing behavioral issues the way they should be taken care of. We are moving away soon. |
| 10/6/2003 | parent | My child started 6th grade this year. I was very worried about his transistion. He has done wonderfully and I am very impressed with the teachers that block 600 has. They are young and dedicated and seem to be a very energetic group. I am very impressed. East Middle is a very good school and I want to pass along the positive side which I believe far outweighs the negative. |
