11/4/2012parentThis is a great school, my daughter is in the soar kindergarden class we love it ..i would recommend anyone to this school, my daughter love her teachers.this school is creating leaders for tomarrow.
10/23/2012parentThe standard in this school has dropped tremendously. The emphasis is in academics and the soar program is not as advanced as was initially presented. There is little or no recreational or arts programs. Some of the parent/teacher interaction is inapporpriate in that the teachers are reporting their personal business to their students and making inappropriate comments. The parent coordinator is unprofessional and not helpful The afterschool program was discontinued this year with no alternative plan presented to the parents. This current adminstration does not provide support to parents and school, which are important elements to a school's success.
5/2/2012parentThis school need more progessional staff. Most don't follow through with issues concerning the children. They appear to condone bullying behavior. My child didn't spend an enjoyable 5 years at this school. As for academics, they seperate the smartest, leaving them to fend for thier own... As a parent I had to pay for services the school never offered even when asked. So glad to be moving on... Goodbye, good riddance Lenox Academy...SMH. :(
2/15/2012parentI would not recommend this school to anyone the current principal and some of the teachers are more of saving face than for educating the children. They're more about the pay check than that of the well being of the children in this school
2/25/2011otherthis school p.s.235 is a horrible school. it lacks the teacheing imformation your supposed to get at that certain grade. i'm in the soar program in fifth grade and the things i'm learning now should have been the things thought in fourth grade. the teaching is boring and hard to understand and the kids don't even tery to help out with doing the right thing so maybe the teacher can get somewhere with their teaching. the lunch rooms are pig stys. the teachers lauguage around the students are bad. and their disapline is low. childern can't get detion every day. exspeicially the whole entire class.
1/25/2011parentThis school is not very good i would not recommend sending anyone's child to this school.
11/4/2010otherP.S. 235 is a great school that strives for execllence and tries to supply the world with the most intellectual and care-giving students. The enviroment is friendly and almost all the time philantropic. But the discipline tactics are very weak and the school has a lot of sanitary issuses but they have room for improvement. Otherwise their academic philosphy is very specificed and well carved and me as a current sixth grader enjoys their accelrated science progam and high set standards and expectations.
3/7/2010parentI am a parent of a 4th grade student at P.S. 235. I love this school. The teachers are great. They have a true sense of the students in their classrooms and often adjust their lesson to suit. The new administrative staff is really trying to keep a handle on the students. I can see that the new custodian is also trying to get a handle on the building. As parents we need to continue to work with the staff of P.S. 235 to help this school remaind the top in the district.
9/17/2009parentIt have great programs and activities for the kids.
9/16/2009parentPs. 235 is a great school! The gifted school curriculum is geared to teach kids out-of-the box learning skills. My son's work is always a grade or two ahead and it's never too difficult for him to grasp! The teachers are great and reallly seem to care about the children. I love P.S.235!!
5/5/2009parentThis is an excellent school, great teachers, wonderful staff who shows concern for the children..the children are very well taught..great school
9/28/2008studentI am in the sixthed grade and i agree the bathrooms are very dirty. the techers are very nice and help a lot but changing class is very unorganized. For the first few there was fighting but at nothafter thing much.
9/8/2008parentGood acamedically, my child is in the Soar program, Drop off and pick up needs more to be desired. It's totally chaotic. The bathrooms are extremely dirty. I think I will have to move my daughter because of these reasons. They school is not properly funded and no email address available for the school or teaches.
9/7/2008parentthis school was very good in their acdemics when comming to it but the behavior is terrible and their are not doing anything about it theyre are very nasty when they have to clean the bathrooms it is disgusting people cant use it nicely
6/26/2008parentLacking Spanish instruction as a regular class, only offered in the After School Program. The SOAR program is great. My son is in Kindergarten and doing 2nd grade level work such as fractions
5/20/2008parentMy son is currently in the first grade at P.S.235. Academically you can'y ask for anything more, he's in the SOAR program. There's a lot to be said about discipline problems, teachers / staff respecting students and fun engaging extracurricular activities. Drop off, pick up and lunch time is always chaotic needs to be improved. The children in the school also lack compassion for one another and typically are not nice to their peers. I sometimes wonder do I keep my son here for the academics or do I move him to a place where children demonstrate and are taught good character and the environment is calmer?
4/7/2008studentI used to go here and sorta liked it but it didnt have enough materials
4/5/2008parentthis is a good school my son is doing well in the soar program from kto 5thgrade allgrade 4 on his test scores the princiopal Janice Knight recently passsed away so hopefully the new principal ,will keep to the same standards .there are not enough extra curricular activities .otherwise its the top school in the district.
12/11/2007otherps.235 is the best school in new york and Lenox academy.
11/13/2007parentMy daughter attends PS235.Our experiences so far have been mixed.Like other parents, I tried in vain to have contact with the principal concerning an incident with my child and some of her classmates.Which was handled in an unprofessional manner. I did as much as I could have possibly done to correct the problem with my child and that is where the story ended.Meanwhile the cause of the problem still lurks around the school. Three years of the gifted program rated by me as fair with lots of room for improvement.
11/12/2007parentExcellent school! A very active PTA Board and Principal.
8/28/2007parentI have one child attending 235, and I believe the teachers are great. Within a month or so of entering pre-K, my son was reading--it was amazing! I do believe that the school needs to provide the children with more physical activities (my child had no gym class last year). Also, I found the parent coordinator very unprofessional. Overall, though, I believe my son is learning a lot at 235.
8/27/2007student235 is a very good enviornment for me. I am a senior at 235 (Lenox Academy) and I have loved my experiencethere so far. The school is small so the teachers and students can have that one on one connection that builds a better learning enviornment. Im glad I choose to go to 235!
6/13/2007parentI am a parent of a 7th grader and it seems like the school is just average. My child comes home with 15 minutes of homework and has nothing else to do. There is also dress code, and majority of the time, everyone is in jeans and mini skirts. Overall, the school is just average, but has serious problems to fix!
5/24/2007parentI am a proud parent of a 5th grader, who came from private school to PS 235. At first , I was very nervous but after observing the commitment of the principal and Staff and the strength and dedication of the PTA, I became very comfortable. We had a budget cut but even with that our Principal stood the test of time. We have been there for 3 years and with the exception of the lack of or minimal extra-curricular activities, (i.e., sports, etc) PS 235 had been the best thing to happen to my child. I regret paying money in Private school when it could have been contributed to making an even better institution out of PS 235. The Principal and staff makes this school a joy to attend.
5/16/2007studentI am not a parent, however I am a proud graduate of this school(2006).I attend and Early College Highschool in Manhattan now and I have to say that P.S. 235(Lenox Academy) really prepared me. I thought that the school enviornment was definetly welcoming to the time that I have been there and I do not think I would change my experience. Yes Lenox Academy is lacking resources, for example like numerous extra-curricular activities however that did not effect my impression on the school as a whole.
1/12/2006parentMy focus is on the middle school program - The principal means well! However, there seem to be a disconnect with the parents of the middle school program and teachers, unless there is a big problem. The PTA is more about k-5. There is no meetings of the minds for 6-8. Although the test scores of the middle school are execllent, I am concern about a possible drop off. Lastly, as a mother, my daughter has talked about the behavior of some of the boys, which should be dealt with, but such things are not brought up because it does not affect the k-5 children. The middle program is the lesser of the evil, for middle schools in district 18.
9/8/2005parentOver all the school is good. Mainly because of the parent partisipation. We as parents wanted to help with getting more involvment. But came up aggenst the administration asking for help but not taking it. To much polotics with the princable and pta. Instead of the school working with the parents. With the recent buget cut the school lost.
3/21/2005parentMy son has been at PS235 from PreK to the 5th Grade where he currently is. the school is great although its phyical circumstances are such that he was located first at the annex, next in trailers then the main building and now at another annex. In 1st and 2nd Grades he did Spanish but alas that was stopped from 3rd Grade. The Math, Science and ELA cirriculum are all well thought both in quality and extent, however supporting liberal teachings such as music, creative writing, Gym, or performing arts are not provided. I guess it is ultimately a public school. The PTA is strong which makes PS 235 even greater. Its a wonderful school
3/16/2005parentThis is a great public school. The administration and teachers are active and available. The teachers and students know they are expected to come ready to work. The parents a really active in the school. The school is very crowded and does not have enough space to provide the children with much physical activities.
1/26/2005parent I am experiencing communication problems. After a distrubing incident in my son's class, i have went to the office and s/w the VP and was advised that i needed to speak with the Principle, this was in October, I have left all contact number for the principle to give me a call back, the issue was address, my child was call down to the office and questioned and i still have not yet been notified. i think the principle should address concern parents need.
12/16/2004parentMy daughter is currently a first-grader at P.S. 235 and while the school is a good one, I find that it depends greatly on the individual teachers. However, the size of the school accounts for a great many discipline problems and many think the principal is unaccessible and not as involved with the children as she could be. They wish for a warmer environment but you can currently only get that from your child's teacher. Her kindergarten teacher was great, her current teacher even better, but most of it depends on the luck of the draw.
12/1/2004parentp.s 250 this school has very dedeciated teachers always willing to go the extra mile to help the kids . Both my kids attend this school all teachers are positive ,i will recomend this school to any one ,lost of extra activities.
10/6/2003parentI have 2 children in this school, both starting at the K-level. The teachers and administrators alike are first rate. The grassroot level involvement of the principals and her cohorts are unprecedented. The aftershool program run and organized by a very active PTA is also of a high quality and best of all affordable. The only minor drawback is the lack of adequate outdoor playgrounds and extracurricular activities even at the middle school level. On a scale of 1 to 10, ps235 is a 9.5!
