| 10/30/2011 | student | I am a senior at FHS and I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. I have academic and personal support from any adult in the building, their goal is to see everyone succeed. My auto tech class is fortunate enough to have two lifts and a lot of equipment that lets us do more than just an oil change. There is an extra curricular activity for everyone and most people take advantage of it. The environment we have is really unique, truly like a community of our own. There's a class for almost everything to. And when its time to graduate, they make it easier for you to apply to colleges. I'm proud to be a Daler. |
| 6/9/2009 | parent | I feel this school offers students so much in the way of course choice as well as extracurricular activities. Its Humanities program is second to none, their drama and music departments win yearly awards, and their sports teams are competetive. There's a real sense of community here from pre-school through 12th grade. |
| 4/29/2009 | parent | I ama parent of a senior at F.H. I cannot say enough about how the school has taken a 360 turnaround for the better. The Principal, as well as the asisstant Principal are an excellent asset to the school. The are so hands on with everything. Keeping ALL kids inline. They are always at school functions, as an added bonus they particpate in most if not all activities. They also know the kids by there first names. I was picking up my daughter one day and the principal asked my daughter by name was she ok? I said how does he know your name?????? She said he knows all the kids by name. I thought that is one indication of a very well run school. I am very happy with the education she recieved in her 4 years of F.H. I have a up and comming 6th grader. |
| 5/2/2008 | parent | Quality academics and involved parents make for a good environment. Problems? Sure, there are some, but these are the same that you will find in any HS on LI. Plenty of opportunity and students will get out of it what they put in. |
| 11/29/2007 | parent | The standards at Farmingdale High School may be typical of Long Island schools. If so, it doesn't bode well for the future. Teaching new knowledge is kept to the minimum allowed standards. Much of the class time which should be used to impart new knowledge and skills is used for reviewing past material and coaching for standardized tests. Teachers typically give students an entire week's homework assignments on a Monday so if they choose, they can do the homework before the material's taught in class. when many of the teachers get through the daily lesson early, instead of going into more depth and perhaps benefitting the students, they allow students to either socialize or do homework. Homework used to be called HOMEwork for a reason, something many teachers at FHS seem to have forgotten. In the spirit of the holiday season however, I'll be generous and give a 2-star rating. |
| 6/8/2007 | parent | This high school has some good oportunities for the students, however the lack of supervision and the drug problem that the school is facing is worrysome. We pay very high taxes for this school and our children deserve better. |
| 10/5/2005 | former student | I graduated from fhs 2 years ago. I enjoyed going there, they have a great athletic program. The teachers are good, some better than others. |
| 9/29/2005 | parent | The academic programs in F'dale are pretty good the administration could use some work. Music and sports programs are ok, nothing to rave about in my opinion. More parents need to get involved but I think that's true about most public schools. |
| 8/29/2005 | student | Good academeic program alot of music and art and extracurricular activities parents involved are many there is alot for kids to do and a great variety of kids the teachers are great and the people are wonderfull they are very nice and the curriculum also includes scale classes. So needless to say farmingdale is wonderful enviroment for students. There is also a pool in the school which is great and a weight room so it has a great Gym curriculum and it is a great school to send your kids to |
| 6/1/2005 | parent | My stepchildren attended Farmingdale High School. My stepdaughter didn't like many teachers. My stepson loved it and was very involved with music there. It depends on the child. |
| 2/19/2005 | parent | Graduated Farm HS 72. Daughter 12th grade, 05. Inadequated safety. In my opinion, the student run the school. The administration and staff of the high school have demonestrated to me, that they cannot maintain a safe and secure educational environment. |
| 8/26/2003 | former student | Farmingdale was a cool school the security guards rock, and the teachers were always there when you needed them. The deans were cool about everything even when you were getting in trouble. Overall I have to say Farmingdale is one of the coolest schools around. |
