| 1/2/2012 | student | Hillcrest High School is an okay school (6/10). I attend Hillcrest High School and it is not the best. The classes are unorganized. The Honor classes are mixed up. They put very low average students in the class and the smart kids are in the regular classes. There are metal detectors and it may be smart, but it's not. Students sneak it in anyway possible. The school is okay when it comes to teachers. The staff aren't great. They literally curse at you and will punish you harshly. For example, no I.D. you will get suspended. You don't have a schedule, your going to get suspended. The school is very different in ethnicity. Its 55% black, 35%Asian (Muslim) 10%Hispanic. The halls are sometimes clean. You can find burgers on the stairs. if you spill something on Friday, you're going to see it on Monday. The halls are always crowded. There are always fights in the cafeterias.(3rd & 4th). There are about 8 SLC's or Academies. Out of all the best are the Pre-Med and Business and Tech SLC. The schedules are very unorganized. The kids aren't from the same SLC's. Its very mixed. When applying for H.S, you should avoid this H.S. If you live close to the school, go at least to Thomas Edison HS |
| 9/11/2011 | student | the school itself is okay it has alot of classes and smaller academy's to chose from but there are a few students in it that make it a very uneasy place personally i wouldn't send my kid there and i can't wait until i graduate next year |
| 4/23/2010 | student | they are a dedicated and hard working school. i really think they are doing great. |
| 11/13/2009 | parent | My daughter is a freshman in the Pre-Med Academy. So far she loves it! I met her teachers at parent teacher conference and I was impressed. Her Science teachers- Earth and Chemistry are very supportive and are always looking for new ways for the students to learn. |
| 11/3/2009 | student | As a current junior, i think the school is ok. Its not the best, and its not the worst. I would have felt a little more safer if i would have went to Thomas Alva Edison a couple blocks down if i could have. Honestly to me, its not about the school itself, its about the people that are there, and who you hang-out with and what you do after school . If you seek trouble you are Destined to find it in this school. The Staff of the school are very helpful and nice. Just stay on their good side =) |
| 10/4/2009 | parent | I worked at that school during a blood drive and found of all the schools I worked in,this one the staff and the chrildren were so very nice. I feel they care about there school and the staff really puts 100% into helping there school really produce good chrildren. |
| 9/20/2009 | parent | flooded with student, high passing and graduating classes. pre med program is considered the best in the school |
| 1/12/2009 | parent | my grandson is a sophmore at hillscrest. a great basketballteam, great teachers ,and coaching staff. |
| 1/11/2009 | student | hillcrest has changed alot since my freshman year ---- i am a senior now and part of many school activities. Hillcrest is safe and much better than it used to be when i heard of it . Check the school out its really different. |
| 11/24/2008 | student | Why would people think that Hillcrest is a bad school ? I am attending that school and my parents are very happy with it. It has a pleasant atmosphere where the teachers encourage and help you to learn and better understand something. And i can tell you this from experience. It is not in a bad area nor is it a bad school. Whoever thinks its a bad school needs to tell me what is so bad about it. |
| 10/30/2008 | parent | My daughter tells me that Hillcrest has great teachers but she doesn't feel safe in school. She tells me that her school is very dangerous. I can't recommend this school if it isn't safe for children no matter how good teachers are. |
| 9/9/2008 | student | The school's curriculum is below average due to the low expectations of students from the teachers. The divided institutes puts a limit on students interacting and mixing neglect the idea of diversity. It creates division among the student body. |
| 8/12/2008 | student | I think this school is awesome. It offers many programs for students. Its a great school to attend. |
| 6/21/2008 | parent | Hillcrest high school has given my child everything she needed to start college and life. The teachers are great and as someone said to me--it's a blue ribbon school all the way. Thanks Hillcrest High! |
| 5/19/2008 | student | I must say hillcrest high school is a very good school because me being a student in the pre-teaching program I am learning how to become a teacher and doing hands on experiences which is a good thing. I am very happy to have this experience ^.^ |
| 4/9/2008 | student | Im in the nurisng program at Hillcrest and i must say the program is very excellent. Your taking both College classes and H.S classes, so you must be commited and ready to take this on. I must say it's very stressful, but it's well worth it at the end. You graduate Hillcrest making at least $40,000 a year and your just a HS graduate. I must say that's quite awesome, so no working at McDonalds for you. |
| 3/29/2008 | parent | the school hillcrest is great. Alot of parents think that it is a horrible schoola dn is in a bad area, but you have to think of your kids first. You need to trust them and no everythings going to be okay. The teachers are wonderful and the violence area went down a big ton. My daughter at first was scared the she came home like nothing was wrong saying it was the best and it is, trust me.!!! |
| 3/27/2008 | parent | I think Hillcrest is a wonderful school and has a lot to offer to its students, the teachers are always willing to give extra help and they have get extra help programs for the SAT test. |
| 8/8/2007 | parent | Appears to be an average school. Seems to have problems with discipline and with motivating the kids to aspire to excellence. |
| 7/26/2007 | parent | This school is excellent and the teachers are great. My daughter loved the courses, she took last year. |
| 6/29/2007 | student | very good school with great and intellegent teachers. although some students can be bad. the school itself is a great school!!! |
| 6/4/2007 | other | This innovative school is now a collaborative of seven 4-year schools & two 1-year academies. It's like CUNY: small schools differentiated to help students succeed- all under one roof! BizTek, Public Service, PreMed, PreTeaching, Health Careers, Theatre & Humanities- an array of choices & opportunities unmatched in Queens High Schools. |
| 2/10/2007 | former student | I am a 2006 graduate, and I also graduated from the licensed practical nurse program at hillcrest.I am now an LPN. Hillcrest, for one, is very safe school. Most of the teachers are very helpful. |
| 3/28/2006 | parent | My son is a junior at Hillcrest. He says he feels completely safe there, the majority of kids are very well behaved there is no bullying. |
| 9/30/2005 | former student | Hillcrest High school is an excellent school, especially for those who are considering careers in the health sciences. It is very competitive to get into these programs, and once accepted a certain average is to be maintained to continue matriculation. But best of luck to prospective students, and I hope that you all succeed as I have. |
| 6/24/2005 | former student | This high school has a multi-cultural student population. The diversity for their academic programs provides a sound foundation for continuing sutdies in the business and nursing fields. A counterpart would be that they do not foster the student's creative nature by investing in extracurricular activies. |
| 11/1/2004 | former student | I graduated from this school in June of 2002. She graduated with a Practical Nursing licencse, a nurses aide certificate, and a home health aide certificate at the age of seventeen. I'm now in college going for her RN degree. Hillcrest is excellent and is not as violent as is said. I have never been in any fights while attending this excellent public! |
| 7/26/2004 | parent | My child graduated from Hillcrest 6/04, and I was very pleased with the 4 years she has spent their. She is a registered nurses aid, and she completed the dental assistance program. Hillcrest dnot only gave her a great education but they gave her a career. She is attending Virginia State in the Fall. Thank You Hillcrest Teachers and Staff your hard work and kindness will not be forgotten. |
| 1/26/2004 | student | I think this school is a good school it's not as bad as people may say it is. It has great programs. |
