12/12/2011parentTough curriculum, fine teachers who will get to know your kid. I am proud of our son and his development as a student at HSMSE. He and the kids there work very hard and give much in return. Win-win.
4/23/2010parentAcademically superior to any other high school including the top schools here in NY. Small and friendly but still very challenging.
11/7/2009studentGreat small school.. Everyone knows your name and you have plenty of friends to spare.. Great curriculum and great faculty who really really care
11/3/2009teacherMy school has small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and a real mix of students from all races and beliefs.
10/4/2009parentRigorous program in a small school environment. Only 450 students.
10/4/2009parentGreat curriculum, great teachers, perfect school
10/4/2009studentHSMSE provides an ideal atmosphere for its students.
10/4/2009studentHSMSE is the best school ever! I am so glad I was chosen to go here! To be welcomed into such a loving, warm, family learning environment is such a privilege. It may sound cliche, but it is so true. The teachers have come from all over, with first-hand experiences in the subjects they teach, rather than jus the textbook in their hands. The competitive atmosphere makes you push to do your best. One day there, and you will feel a part of the family. With open arms people are welcome into HSMSE!
9/25/2009studentHSMSE is full of students an faculty who are from diverse backgrounds and very down to earth. As a student there, I feel like I encounter various personalities and personal styles. The academics of HSMSE seem aslmost flawless, especially seeing that our teachers try to avoid teaching towards any kinds of tests, but rather teach toward greater knowledge for their students.
9/25/2009studentHSMSE offers an environment of brilliance, acceptance, and growth that is unique and invaluable.
9/25/2009studentHSMSE is the only high school I know of the gives all students free reign and independence. Without this unique quality, this school would be no different from any normal city school. HSMSE is a cultural melting pot. No where else is there a greater diversity of students than here. The staff is eclectic and for the most part still act like they are still in high school giving the students a more inviting environment to spend 4 years of their life in.
9/22/2009parentIt's like Stuyvesant, or Bronx Science, on a much smaller scale. While we both have great academics, people @ Stuy & Bronx Science say that 'you're only a number'. Here, teacher and kids know you, and it is a great atmosphere, and learning environment
9/22/2009studentI love my school because of the atmosphere, because of the teachers and because of the opportunities it give us as students. There is virtually no popularity scale, no cliques, no hate, everybody is welcome everywhere by everyone else. All of our teachers are very relaxed with us and with how they teach and try to make sure we understand, which they can because of our small class, and all the teachers are open to be talked to before or after class. Also, being in a specialized high school and despite our lack of funding and supplies, we have the option (if we work for it) to take college classes in our years at the school. Personally, I worked hard and am a year and a half ahead in the math program, so I can take college classes in math both junior and senior years.
9/21/2009studentAwesome teachers, college campus and college facilities, small class size, lots of friends. What else is there to say?
9/21/2009studentAll the people from my grade are amazing. We are all like a big happy family. The teachers are amazing and help full. They know your name and are always there to help before or after school. In class we learn a lot and get the attention we need. The overall environment of the school is great and the academics are well balanced. Also we have many opportunities that other schools do not get. Even though we are a pretty new school we already have a outstanding reputation and collage acceptance list.
9/20/2009studentIt is a new specialized high school with a very small teacher to student ratio so everyone knows everyone else, all the teachers are amazing and none of the students are lame.
9/20/2009otherHSMSE is a place where there are no cliques. The diversity lies not only in statistics, but in actual, everyday interactions. The teachers are passionate about their subject matter. Teaching is a second career for many of the staff, so they are sure that this is what they want to do. They are very willing to talk beyond what they teach after class. Despite the name of the school, the humanities is held in high regard. The advanced classes helped immensely during my freshman year at MIT.
9/20/2009parentMSE is a small friendly school that provides students with the support they need to reach their goals.
9/20/2009studentHSMSE is not what i expected its even better! Its making my idea of a scary high school experience into a very memorable one. Its easy & fun to make new friends & become family with them as well as the teachers while learning and preparing yoursel ffor the college experience in the best way possible.
9/20/2009parentI loved the teachers and the atmosphere at MSE....the curriculum really prepares you for what college is like. MSE is a High School where learning is cool. I am really happy that i attended HSMSE.
9/20/2009studentHigh School for Math, Science, and Engineering is a school that provides an excellent education. The school prepares students for science careers through the Mount Sinai program. If you are interested in engineering then the school provides you with courses developed by Project Lead the Way.The math courses are required to be completed and there are many math courses to take. The school gives the experience of a college campus and is associated with City college of New York. There are many advantages in attending the High School for Math, Science, and Engineering.
9/20/2009studenttheres a small hands on environment andd the cultural differences add flavor to the student body
9/20/2009studentThe High School for Math Science and Engineering at CCNY is an amazing school. Its incredibly diverse with people from all over the world and with so many different types of personalities. Its also very studious and provides a good learning environment.
9/20/2009parentMy school has the friendliest atmosphere, from both students and teachers.
9/19/2009studentIt's probably got one of the best communities in the state! Everyone is everyone else's friend. The smallness of the school is what makes it so great.
9/19/2009studentThe classes are challenging and I get home exhausted but there's a lot of room for creativity and I can't think of anything wrong with the school; the different departments are all strong and balanced. Even though it's a 'Math Science and Engineering' school, the English and foreign language and social studies classes are challenging and fun and rigorous! The teachers are all helpful and approachable. No one can rightfully feel left out or scrutinized (students have a cozy relationship for the most part). It's a sad thing, to have to leave in a year!
9/19/2009studentIt is a school full of different personalities. Most would expect that to be a bad thing, but the school nurtures all types. Anyone can find a place to belong here. It's all about doing well and finding who you are at the same time. I love HSMSE.
9/19/2009studentHSMSE has an excellent group of teachers who are dedicated to ensuring student success, all of whom have worked in the field that they teach. Even though the school is centered around 'math, science, and engineering' the english and history departments are just as great. the school is small, which provides an intimate environment where all the students for the most part get along. all 440 of them. The school is a place where you can be yourself, be academically challenged , and enjoy yourself!
9/19/2009studentHSMSE is a school different than a regular high school, with a close, small community, dedicated and excellent teachers, and situated on a college campus with access to its facilities
9/19/2009studentThis is the best school if you really are ambitious and want to be successful. The teachers and staff have come from a variety of excellent schools. Some teachers are not only educators but are engineers architects and mathematicians. All the kids and teachers know each other and everyone blends in.
9/19/2009studentIt prepares you for a lot of things and it's small so everyone knows one another.
9/19/2009studentIt's a small school. All the students know each other, and the teachers know the students on a personal level, not like in bigger school where they barely remember your name. It gives the school a feeling of welcome-ness.
9/19/2009studentI love HSMSE ; the small class sizes allow for class discussions often and eveything is so orderly and its easy to learn.
9/19/2009studentIt's not a very large school so the classes are smaller, and the teachers are very nice and helpful
9/19/2009parentHSMSE @ CCNY is such a good school. Even though its small, there's a lot of different kinds of people there. All the teachers are really fun and friendly and are always there for you if you need extra help
2/6/2009studentThis school is one of the speciallized high schools in New York. The teachers and staff are amazing at this school, especially the ones in the Science and Engineering departments. Not only are they teachers but they are aslo engineers, architects, etc. Our math, english, and history department are great as well. I am still amazed on how well rounded these teachers are, Only the Best! The only downside of this school is the lack of extracurricular activties and sports, there is some.... but not too many.
1/16/2009studentAlthough small containg 400 students for all 4 grades this school is good. It challenges you and expects only the best.Only apply if you're willing to do some work. =)
