| 8/26/2011 | parent | Smith is truly a wonderful school for gifted kids who are otherwise misunderstood or whose potential is squashed by politics or incompetence. Our first year at Smith brought about an awakening that we haven't seen in quite some time in our child. The director, Karen, is amazing! So incredibly invested in every student and seeking to reach every child's potential in today's complicated and socially misleading society. Rigorous academics and individual attention to each student's talents, make Smith a welcome alternative to public middle/high schools and other staunch NYC private schools. Finally a college prep, private school that actually caters to it's students!! |
| 3/4/2011 | parent | This my our first year at the Smith School and my son and I feel very fortunate to be at Smith. He is making great strides academically and is feeling increased self-esteem as a result. I attribute his academic progress to the flexibility afforded by a small school and the wonderful administration and teachers who are truly dedicated to the success of their students. Class sizes are very small and students are given individual attention when necessary. This can only happen in a small, cooperative environment like Smith. Within the structure of the school there is great appreciation for each student's individuality. I believe the students flourish as they feel accepted and encouraged to pursue their talents and passions at school whenever possible. I don't know where my son would be without Smith. I admire and respect Karen and the teachers and staff for the creative, supportive and productive learning environment that they have created at Smith. |
| 10/4/2010 | parent | The Smith School is an exceptional alternative for kids that need small class sizes, one-on-one attention, and a strong curriculum that fosters success and unveiling each students potential. This school succeeded with my children where public schools failed. |
| 4/25/2009 | other | The Smith School is a 'great school' because it's director, Karen Smith, genuinely cares for each and every student from their first day of classes through their graduation. |
| 3/11/2008 | parent | Education is high quality without wasting a lot of time on unessentials. Teachers really get to know the students and anyone who wants an education can be educated at The Smith School. Casual environment; classes are non-threatening. Many inappropriate behaviors swept under carpet at other privates schools are not tolerated here. A student can come away with a good education -- almost like home schooling. |
| 2/11/2006 | parent | The staff is student friendly. Remedial classes are available for those who need them. Placement exams are given to new students and students are placed by their ability. Classes are small. Though homework is given nightly, the quantity is reasonable. Transfer students are accepted at the beginning of each quarter, as space permits. |
