7/9/2012parentAlbemarle School is a safe, nuturing place. Students are valued and encouraged to succeed. It has a family atmosphere. I have three children there. So far I am pleased. There is no such thing as a perfect school. It does require students, teachers, and parents to work together to get the most out of education. It is a private school and depends heavily on parental involvement. I appreciate that. I want to be active in my children's education. At Albemarle School, that is welcomed. You don't just drop your child off at the door and expect them to succeed. Parent's are welcomed to go on field trips, volunteer time for school happenings and improvements, and get involved on school committees. Fundraising is a neccessary evil. Tuition does not cover all needs. They do not receive any money from the state. the California Achievement Test (CAT) is given every year. It is a nationally normed test which means it shows a comparison to children all over the United States, not just North Carolina. My children have always scored in the ninety plus percentiles. That assures me that they are learning and excelling in their academics. Technology is a need at Albemarle School.
6/8/2011parentAt first I wasn't happy with this school when my daughter started going there at age 3. I spoke to the people in administraive and they were able to transfer her into another classroom. Once she was transfered and had a better teacher we really started to like the school. She is still attending Albemarle School and we plan on keeping her there. If you are unhappy with something that happens there talk to the principal or people in the administrative department. They will try there best to help you out. They helped us and we are very happy there now. Just because a place looks a little run down inside doesn't mean at all it is a bad school. The person who wrote that the school smells is wrong. There isn't a foul smell. I wold recommend this school to everyone. The kids learn alot.
5/17/2010parentNot impressed. My daughter is attending preschool here and I can't wait to pull her out. There is an extreme lack in teaching courtesy and being mindful of others. The educational bearings aren't impressive either. Daily my daughter is pushed around and bullied by other students in her class, the issue has been brought to the teacher and administration and nothing has changed. There isn't a lot of focus on academics, it's an expensive play date. The building is in poor condition and has a foul odor. I would not recommend this school to anyone who values their child's education and emotional well being.
9/3/2008studentAlbemarle school is a good and safe enviroment... but i do not recomnend this school to anyone because the education is poor and it is not clean at all and the teachers do not know how to teach. If you have a payment issue they will work with you for a sort amont of time but not long enough . This school will not perpare you for collage!!!
8/23/2007parentBoth my son and my daughter attend this school. All I can is I love the environment that my children are learning in. I have a very open line of communication with my kids' teachers and this is encouraged. In addition to this, I am encouraged to stop in, to go on field trips, and generally be involved! I love it. Academically I am very happy with what is being taught. Kudos to the school I would not trust my children to the public school system here in E City. Anyone who can afford private school and wants a good education with a great family friend environment for their kids should consider Albemarle. We love it.
8/23/2007parentMy child is in his second year at this school. School is what children, parents, and faculty make it. I would recommend this school to anyone who can afford before/afterschool care in a private daycare. A proud parent of a great student!
1/11/2007parentAlbermarle school is not Harvard, this is Elizabeth City for gods sake. It is however, the best school in town as it is very safe and fosters a very family-like and respectful enviroment. I care about my children and will not subject them to Elizabeth City public schools. Do your research and ask around about the public schools. I am very suspect of those posting negative responses; I have heard rumblings about people who are upset because it is 99% white, more than likely it is because they cannot afford it. Academically, my oldest child is excelling compared nationally. My youngest is in pre-school.
7/25/2006studentI have been attending Albemarle School and ever since the change in principals the school's students and quality has declined. The learning is almost non-existent and it will not prepare you for college. The only way to succeed in this school is to have lots of money then your child can get every award known to mankind and really good grades. If your a parent I wouldn't recommend this school for your child.
7/2/2006parentMy family is very pleased with Albemarle School. My daughter scored well above average on her CATs, so they must be doing something right. The parents are very involved in all the programs. The facilities are clean and well-kept. I like that they involve the older grades with the younger ones by bringing them into the classroom and reading to the childen. The teacher brought in a butterfly garden this year and the kids got to watch the caterpillars metamorph into a butterfly, fostering an early interest in science and nature.
9/21/2005parentThe academics are below standard. English is almost none existant in High School. The students believe the school is just about sports; the headmaster is the AD. More money means more perks for your student:higher grades, more playing time in sports, participation in other extracurricular activities. I would not reccomnd this school to anyone who wants their child to be prepared for college.
8/29/2005parentWe love the small class size and have been very pleased with our son's progress. Some teachers there need to be a little less critical of the students, especially critizing students in front of the others in the class!Need to foster a positive environment!
5/2/2005parentMy son has attended this school for three years, and we love it. The teachers are dedicated and caring, and I am pleased with the quality of his education. It is wonderful to send my child to a school where I don't have to worry about discipline problems or other horror stories one hears so often these days. Overall, a safe, family-oriented environment combines with fantastic teachers and individual attention for each child to create excellent opportunities for learning.
1/25/2005former studentSafe and nice family environment, but it's WAY too small, no AP classes, it won't prepare you for college (a decent one, anyway), no opportunities. Not worth the money!
11/22/2004studentI love Albemarle School because of the family environment! I have been with the same class since kindergarten and it's nice to grow up with people you've known for so long! I also love the idea that i don't have to worry about any of my stuff getting stolen or taken. I mean we don't even need locks on our lockers! I think that's a great place for kids to be in a safe place.
8/18/2004parentAs a parent this school is outstanding. My son has extremely high SAT scores and loves going to school. All the teachers care about each individual student and look for the strength and weaknesses in each. I cannot say enough good things about the school.
3/21/2004former studentI Love Albemarle school! It provided me with an awesome education while instilling leadership qualities and character building relationships! This is a Great school and definately worth the money!
1/27/2004parentWe are extremely pleased with the education our daughter is receiving. The small class size allows the teacher to give 1-on-1 attention. School is like a big family!
1/6/2004parentI have 3 children that go to this school. Ages are from 4 to 12. I am happy to go to work and send my children to a school that is safe and not have to worry if they are being taken care of.
