1/11/2012parentNot what we expected. My children were enrolled in another Wake County elementary, and we moved into the Lacy school district. From the start, we have been disappointed with Lacy. Many of the teachers are new and inexperienced. I find they are particularly bad at handling bullying and student conflict. Additionally, I think that the school is quite "clicky". My children have not received a warm welcome. The one positive is the math AG teacher. She really cares about the students and pushes them to achieve great things.
5/15/2011parentBeautiful school with an army of involved parents. Our first grade teacher and assistant teacher were AMAZING. I tear up each time I think about how I will never be able to thank them enough for being so wonderful. Very nice kids. The atmosphere is welcoming. Everyone makes eye contact, smiles and cares.
10/12/2010parentParents beware....Communicaton between teacher and parent is horrible. Diversity training should be essential for some of the school staff. We had issues from the teacher disclosing personal student medical information to other classmates, underreporting of injuries on school grounds, not taking appropriate medical care/action of injured children. Parent input and concerns are totally ignored when it comes to your child. We've had reports from my kid about the teacher getting so angry that she would turn red (from a child's mouth). They used to love school, but by midyear, never wanted to go. Phone calls are not returned and/or ignored. The principal didn't seem to care. Should be reported for inappropriate behavior all the way around. We were told that this school was fabulous, but it is not true from our experience. We got a really bad teacher & unfortunately she left a lasting impression.
9/25/2009parentI take my son to Pre school there, amazing teachers in his classroom; My interaction with other school staff just as positive, my son who normally does not like change and and unfamiliar settings... Loves going to school. Its a very safe and clean enviroment for kids!
6/30/2009parent Every staff member (- from the principal to the custodians -) is outstanding. Each child is treated with respect and encouraged to do thier best academically and socially. Any social pressures felt by parents, as mentioned in a previous review, are created by the parent., not the school or the outstanding educational environment.
1/30/2009parentLacy is a great school as of now; time will tell if the BoE's determination to strip long-time nodes out of it harms it or not. I tend to think not, as the remaining families are extremely committed to being involved constantly. The high points have been named by those before me, even if it's ben 2 years since anyone reviewed it. Test scores continue to rise. My child has been there 1.5 years now, and she loves Lacy and we love how well she interacts with the variety of students racially, socio-economically, English-proficiency, and just general aptitude. And she does not receive any favors or extraordinary attention (compared to others). Her report card, with mostly 3*'s (4 is the highest) spends more time on the person she is than how she's doing with the 3 R's. That is the testament to the school's value and parental involvement
11/16/2006parentLacy Elementary is a wonderful school. The principal knows every kid by name and is very warm and welcoming, regardless of socio-economic status. Thanks to the fabulous, caring teachers, my son went from not being able to read at all at the beginning of 1st grade, to being a book worm now! Fall Festival, Lacy family picnic, the book fair and the math/science night are all great fun. My children love Lacy, and they are receiving a quality education.
9/18/2006parentI don't have a large income, though our family is comfortable, and I do not feel marginalized. Many of us are working mothers. My children's friends come from a variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic levels. There certainly are wealthy parents at this school, but they put their money into the school making it an exemplary environment for everyone. Parents and staff take great care to tend to the needs of every child, particularly those with a language barrier or financial needs. I particularly appreciate the principal's emphasis on moving ahead and not resting on any accomplishment laurels - she often introduces new and better curriculum and standards. Health, well-being, and good character traits are promoted alongside reading, writing and math. AG classes, Special Education assistance, hearing-impaired aids, and speech instruction are wonderful bonuses. The staff are happy and motivated, and that rubs off on the students.
8/27/2006parentLacy is warm and welcoming if you're living in a high dollar neighborhood and have a large income. Otherwise you feel marginalized. The principal and teachers are great, but some, not all, of the parents are very country club. Glad my kid has moved on.
5/3/2006parentMy son was blessed by spending four years at Lacy. I strongly believe that every school is a reflection of its principal, and Lacy's principal, and administration altogether, is the best one could desire for the school. Lacy has very strong academics, and Lacy had the best AG and science programs, and best field trips. It is a true magnet, although formally it does not have this status. Excellent extracurricular activities, and strong parents' involvement. Discipline was great, and every single teacher my son worked with was wonderful and committed. We had great experience with Lacy chorus led by enthusiastic music teacher. My son and his friends who also graduated from Lacy attended 2005 Lacy's Fall Festival (well, it's Halloween), and are going to go there agian this fall.
8/23/2005parentLacy is warm and friendly. Parents are welcome participants - the school has a true partnership between staff, teachers and home. The principal is creative in staffing and changes each year depending on the schools and students needs. My children recieve an excellent education in a warm, caring environment!
6/27/2004parentLacy is a fantastic 'traditional' school with a dynamic principal and dedicated staff. Lacy parents, many who can easily afford private school tuition, demand and expect the best for their students. Lacy delivers. The percentage of AG students in the upper grades approximates 60% and school leadership steps up to meet the needs of these students, even though Lacy is not an AG magnet. Principal is very committed to Baldridge, 'Quality', and 'Continuous Improvement.' Parent involvement and support is second to none-even having started and funded a non-profit foundation to provide additional resources for the school. School culture is happy and focused on meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. State testing growth measures - Lacy regularly meets High Growth, has met AYP, and over 90% of its students are at or above grade level, even with a handful of Special Ed classrooms. Lacy does 'the talking and the walking!'
