| 10/13/2010 | parent | Glenoak High School has an awesome academics program. Many of the students go on to College or University. |
| 3/25/2010 | student | once i took a tour, i was instantly hooked. i love all the opportunities, the classes, and the overall experience. I love GlenOak High School! |
| 3/19/2008 | parent | Our family moved to the area 3 years ago. The failure of repeated levies has proved discouraging to student and parent. This aside, the staff does an excellent job of education our children. I hope our community finds it in their wallets to continue to support this excellent school system. |
| 7/23/2007 | student | Bad school, If i could rate it a zero or even take it into the negatives i would. Zero parental Involvement Period, No extra curricular activities because They have no funding from anybody. Decent but pretty bad teachers, Dont even know who the princapal is or where to find them. Seems fairly safe but students should be checked before being allowed in. Also a fair amount of Violence within. Seriously has no funding whatsoever. They keep trying to pass levy's but fail miserably everytime. Overall a horrible school. |
| 8/5/2005 | parent | My daughter went to Glenoak and hated every minute of it. The dress code was a joke, less than appropriate attire at the school. My daughter was called names by teachers, and lack of security was unbelievable. Trying to get in touch with a counsellor or teacher was next to impossible and when a complaint was made, most of the time nothing was done. Some teachers lack maturity (yes, even the older ones do). Also the crime rate is shocking. And the Band, oh well, let's not go there. As for activities, nothing out of the ordinary or worth checking into. Better schools are out there. |
| 4/27/2005 | parent | My son attended Glen Oak High School this year. I found the quality of the education far superior than his previous school. I was blessed with the ability to check his grades regularly using PowerSchool and able to call and speak with teachers, guidance counselors, principals, and even the assistant to the superintendent as needed. They were all wonderful in their efforts with my son. I can honestly say that my son is a better human being for his experiences at Glen Oak High School. Thank you to everyone! |
| 1/28/2005 | parent | I have one son at GlenOak and another about to enter as a freshman. We have had nothing but positive experiences. The arts program is beyond belief in its scope and quality. The marching, symphonic, concert, and jazz bands deserve special mention for the quality of work produced by the students. My son has been engaged in school on numerous levels as the teaching staff seems to truly understand how to implement learning theories that account for student individuality. |
| 12/7/2004 | student | I am currently a student at GlenOak and have a sibling who currently attends the school and I have no doubt that GlenOak is an exceptional school. GlenOak provides a community that only a few schools are able to provide. From great teachers to outstanding extracurricular activities, GlenOak is known statewide for their athletic and academic achievements. And even though trying to get phone calls returned by school counselors and principals may be tough at times, GlenOak does its best to accomodate the 2,400 students that attend it. I would have no problem in recommending GlenOak to area parents who are considering sending their children GlenOak to continute in their educational opportunities. |
| 6/10/2004 | parent | All 4 of my children attend GlenOak High School and overall I have been extemely pleased. The faculty and staff are exceptional in both their knowledge of the curriculum and caring of the students. The science department is probably the best staff in the county, and I feel they have definately prepared my 2 oldest sons for their college science courses. I will add that it is discouraging to see parents write all negative comments on sites such as this. I wish these parents would try to do something positive to help the school. |
| 1/26/2004 | parent | Overall, I was not impressed with GlenOak High School. Lack of organization among faculty. Some of the teachers wouldn't actually 'teach,' they would give an assignment and expect the students to figure things out for themselves. Too many young teachers trying to be 'cool' with the kids. One teacher was suspended for sexual problems with girls. They wait until the last minute to announce snow days on the radio. My daughter was counting the days until graduation and never looked back. There were so many pregnant teens and teens on drugs too. You couldn't drive thru the parking lot without seeing something wrong going on. The kids nick named GlenOak high 'GlenJoke' high. I had to call them several times to find out why my daughter didn't get her report card and requested meetings with teachers to find out why her papers that were graded weren't recorded in the grade book. I could go on and on but I think I'll stop before I explode. |
| 11/1/2003 | parent | I think the staff needs to get back with the parents who leave messages better. Ive called 3 times to talk to the schools gudience but they never have re-turned my phone call. This phone call that was made was about my daughters learing ablitys. So I think the staff needs better inprovement and dont need to get smart with some parents just because we are concerned about 'our' children. |
| 9/15/2003 | other | I grew up in the Plain Local School District and attended GlenOak in the mid-nineties, then transferred to a private boarding school my junior and senior year. I can honestly say that the education I received at GlenOak was far superior to my $12,000+ a year boarding school. GlenOak has an amazing curriculum including every sort of vacation you could want to study. Graphic design, cosmotology, photography, wood shop, restuarant, etc... they even had a marine biology class when I attended, and I believe you actually went to some tropical area for the final. In addition, they have a wide selection of extra-curriculars. The teachers really are fabulous, which the test scores prove. When I have children, I'm hoping to move back to the Plain Local District so they can receive the same wonderful education I did. |
