Unlike one review suggests, yelling is not a common event in the halls, and every teacher I've had treats me with respect and I do the same. Bullying is NOT a tactic used by teachers. The school spirit is up-beat and modern. In my year at Dempsey, there hasn't been ONE moment I didn't enjoy. The orchestra, band, jazz band, and choir programs are amazing, as well as the sports programs. Dempsey won't tolerate disrespectful kids, so don't let your kid fool you into believing that any teacher is doing anything wrong. Yes, there is a dress code. So what. Yes, they could loosen up a bit, but that shouldn't be cause for a 1 star review. From a "parent", especially. I am aware that Dempsey has changed a lot (for the better) over the years, so I cant disagree with any negative reviews. All I know is it's a lot better now. One previous review couldn't have put it better; Parents shouldn't be putting the school down, because they're not the ones here almost every day. I am, and I'm proud. |
| 5/12/2010 | parent | Dempsey middle school has a very strict dress code and it should not be this way teachers and principles should know that in the summer it gets hot and kids start to wear shorts and tanc tops you expect students to sweat in pants and long sleeves it seems like. Dempsey you needto loosin up it doesnt matter what students are wearing unless you can see there but and boobs they should be fine stop being like that to your students and loosin up if you think this strict dress code you have is helping your school you are totaly wrong all it is going to do is turn students aginst you and cause vilence and it could cause students to protest which iv herd half of the school plans on doing let students wear what they want its there body not yours unlessthere but orboobs are showing leave them alone |
| 3/26/2010 | parent | I have enjoyed Dempsey's programs that they offer advanced science, languages, and the sports. Orchestra and Band do get too much emphasis, but they are talented teachers and produce great music. |

Personally, I feel parents should be worried about the amount a child learns, not whether or not they have spagetti strap tops. There are TONS of anti-bullying awareness and encouragment at our school. But it is a middle school and they all have cliques. It's just a fact of life. 8 graders do feel more important than 7th graders. But many of us are friends and it is all in fun. They tease, but it is in a friendly way. The gifted and talented program here is wonderful. And as one parent said, the advanced math isn't advanced. It's the same learning only at a faster pace and more in-depth. We have great school spirit, a great staff and student body. Parents shouldn't be putting it down, since THEY aren't the ones that are here every day. I am and I'm proud. |

The teachers are constantly yelling at the kids in the halls. They also use bullying tacktics to make children behave the way they want. They use threats of removing the student off of the teams they are on. Yelling is a regular event in the hallways by the teachers. |
| 8/24/2006 | parent | My child also experienced bullying at this school, but to give the teachers and other staff memebers some credit...When I enquired about the situation it was delt with quickly. As parents we should know that not always do we see what is going on with our kids so why should we think the teachers would either. When I demanded there be a meeting, there was one set up immediately between the parents and children involved. |
| 1/24/2005 | parent | The biggest problem at Dempsey is the bullying that goes on and the school splits the 7th and 8th grade in a way that makes the 8th graders think they are better than the 7th graders and they show it on a constant basis. Dempsey also does not hold the kids to a dress code. I see girls come out of that school on a constant basis dressed in a very inappropriate manner. |
