| 3/11/2009 | other | This school is not a good school. There is very little emphasis on academics as there are very few subjects being offered. The school also does a poor job of preparing the students for higher education |
| 10/20/2008 | parent | I'm a parent that agrees to getting my child tested for a possible learning disalility because she is just getting push away instead of helping. some teachers are there to help my daughter. but the Principle doesn't want to help just pushes her away . The principle did this to my son also and after 3years of pushing and 2 years of summer school my child has an I.E.P. not because he is LAZY BUT BECAUSE HE HAS A LEARNING PROBLEM 'No thanks to LaBrae' |
| 1/3/2008 | parent | I'm a parents of the Labrae student. And a parent who does care about my child. I do get involved. If you want [the school] to be testing for a learning problem, they push you away. We need better teachers and better principal who care about the students and work as a team with the parents. |
| 10/23/2007 | parent | My daughter has attended Labrae schools from day one.She is now a senior. We have had some experiences but,I quickly stepped in as all parents should. My daughter and I have overall been pleased with the schools, teachers, her safety, and the education she has received.I would never have sent her to any other school than Labrae. |
| 9/29/2007 | parent | I have lived in Leavittsburg for the past 17 years and I feel that the school is not helping the students prepare for the real world. The teachers scream at the students and the principals are all about the ones that are not in need of help instead of helping the ones that need it. My oldest son was denied the chance of graduating, my youngest son was looked down on due to the way he dressed and his reading material. If you do not wish the children to read what they call not suited then I feel that it should be taken out of the schools. |
| 9/21/2007 | other | This school is not a vary good school for parents to send their children |
| 7/12/2006 | parent | I love LaBrae schools. My kids have gone there from kindergarten. LaBrae might not be the best school on the planet, but they get the job done. LaBrae is very caring and a wonderful school system. I think if the parents would be more involved with activities they would see more about what their children do, but most LaBrae parents just don't care. |
| 4/6/2006 | former student | This is a great school district. They have a brand new state-of-the-art building, their education is good and they are always on towards the top the list on the ohio school report cards. The students excel in basketball and softball almost every year. The staff is friendly and caring. Great school. |
| 2/9/2006 | parent | I have two children in the LaBrae School system and I have found that the LaBrae teachers do not perscribe to the No Child Left Behind Theory. They tend to teach to the brightest in the class, ignoring the children who need special attention. The elementary school is not preparing the children for the middle school and high school classes they will need. |
| 1/31/2006 | parent | I am a graduate of LaBrae High School as well as seven brothers and two sisters. The new facility is nice. My son is a current student at the school as well as several of my nephews and nieces. I wish there were better lines of communication between the people running the school and the parents. It seems as if punishment is meted out on a whim depending who you are and what you look like. LaBrae has serious issues in certain areas that need to be addressed. |
| 12/21/2005 | parent | The high school is not as academically sound as it should be. I have two kids in the high school. The small number of minority students deal with a lot of prejudices. The school does not offer a lot for children who are not interested in sports. |
| 2/19/2005 | parent | I have 3 children, 1 is attending Labrae now as I speak (The other 2 are not of age to attend as of yet.)I have lived here all my life, went to school at Labrae and stand firm on my children attending there also. I have seen the comments on how impersonal the staff have been and how some of the parents feel they are not doing enough to put themselves out there. I totally disagree. I have had some issues that I have taken to the staff (his teacher, principle, and the assistant superintendant.)I had WONDERFUL response, and very friendly inputs. I can not help but wonder if maybe it is not the school that is failing here, but maybe the parents. Get involved more, put yourself out there. I rate Labrae the best. GO VIKINGS! |
| 2/19/2005 | student | This school's only high point are the test scores, but considering the standard tests are bull and more apt to measure for stress than for academic quality, that isn't a whole lot to say. What the other parents have said about the schools legislation on clothing is not a lie but the absolute truth and the mentioned hiearchy of athletic importance over academic achievement is also a truth. We can get fund raisers and support going for things like equipment and new uniforms and buses, but the administration can't throw a bone to the kids who are doing things like Power of the Pen or Prep Bowl, and there is very little appreciation or nurturing of creativity and its need in LaBrae either. There is no outsidethebox-thoughts even appreciated or honed to full potential. As a place of refinement for education, this is not all its said to be. -A. Bronson |
| 12/22/2004 | parent | I have two children in Labrae and for the most part have been happy with the school. What I have not been happy with is the way rules apply to certain children and their rule which is 'that students can't wear anything that brings undue attention to themselves' has left the door open to staff being able to pick and choose who can wear what. A lot of the rules I can understand but some of them are just ridiculous and prejudice, it kind of reminds me of that neighborhood in that movie 'Footloose'. But amongst all of their clothing rules if you get a chance, take a look at some of the girls who work for certain staff members are wearing, the rules don't seem to apply to them. |
| 9/12/2004 | parent | I feel the board and the sup are not totally honest with the community. Too many chiefs and nothing to show for it. No weighted grades,(the more advanced kids suffer from this). Most of the teachers are great but the guidance counseler does very little for the seniors preparing for college. Sports are getting much better and parents are are starting to come around. A new school is coming soon and everyone I've talked to would not have voted for the school if they knew then what they know now. Nepotism>>>>> school board members get kids teaching jobs without posting, 'legally', how convienent. If you talk to the board, they can justify everything. This is a bad example for our kids. They hear and see parents talking about how the system is 'beat' by a couple of board members. Schools fine, bosses bad. |
| 9/9/2004 | parent | As a resident of LaBrae SD I thought my children were in a good school. I was wrong. The administration is more concerned with football than the academics of the students. Too many things have happened and are happening which will erode the academic achievement of the students. I believe the school is lacking much. |
| 8/22/2004 | former student | Myself & my wife are both graduates of LaBrae and are very proud to say so. They are rated as one of the top schools in the county on the State Report cards, are having an excellent new school built, and with an outstanding basketball team & regime change on the football team things are only getting better. I am glad that my son will be able to utilize the many assets of this district. |
| 3/1/2004 | parent | I have two children at the high school - one a senior and one a freshman. I myself am also a product of the district. I am very happy with the school and the teachers but would like to see the administration be more people oriented. Not real sure why we have an assistant to superintendent, but he is not very personable. All in all though I would have to say that we are a small community who needs to stick together and make this the best for our children. I would like to see more parent involvement at the high school level. I feel that we are often out of the loop so to speak. Teenagers need us more then they realize!! As for the 'toxic dump'...that is not the school district's fault that the city and county allow this mess to continue so near us. Our sports programs need to be taken more seriously as they were 20 years ago. The students are losing interest and it is hurting our morale. But i remain loyal... Go Vikings!! |
| 2/22/2004 | parent | The LaBrae schools need to put more time and effort into opportunities for their academic minded students. (Prep Bowl, Robotics, Equations, Challenge 24, etc.) LaBrae doesn't compete in alot of these areas and the ones they do compete in aren't given the time they deserve. Students from other schools aren't necessarily more intelligent then LaBrae students they just get more practice time and more coaching from the teachers. I haven't seen one of our principals take time to come to a Prep Bowl meet yet. These students deserve better! |
| 2/18/2004 | former student | This school is rated as one of the highest in the area in academics according to the state report card. |
| 1/17/2004 | parent | I have two children. One is a graduate of Labrae and the other is a senior. Both of my children have benefited from being a student of Labrae. The teachers I feel are very good! The athletics are poor but hopefully will improve. I have never worried about my childrens safety at the school. The kids are all very close. This is a tight knit community and we are all working to make it better!! |
| 8/10/2003 | former student | There is a high level of nepotism at this school. This school is also located near a very dangerous toxic garbage dump. The community is in the middle of a serious legal dispute regarding the safety of the students, which is in serious jeopardy right now. |
