| 6/9/2012 | parent | I have had one child graduate from Memorial and one child there now. I have always found the office staff, administration and teachers most helpful and professional. Both of my children were in the Engineering Academy at Memorial. The AP classes have prepared both of my children for College. My oldest graduated in 4 years from OSU. Having had 18 college credits going into it thanks to Memorial's curriculum. My youngest is on the same path. Memorial is a neighborhood school where tradition of excellence continues in the classroom, as well as fine arts, athletics and clubs. You get out of High School what you put into it! |
| 6/9/2012 | parent | My son class of 2013 has had a very positive experience at Memorial. He played 2 years of basketball and this will be his 4th year in the baseball program. My husband and I have been very happy as well. The administration has done some pretty amazing things over the past 2 years and it is all good!! |
| 6/6/2012 | parent | The Engineering Academy at Memorial is nationally competitive. The basketball program there is one of the most respected in the state. MHS is a safe environment that gives you a slice of the real world. Honestly, you can get what you want out of this school or where you go. It is what you make of it. I am always helped in the office; I have no complaints and all good experiences. I have had one child graduate from Memorial and one attends there now. |
| 6/5/2012 | parent | I have never been so disappointed with a school before in my life. From the time you walk through the front door till you are out, you hear vulgarities from students. The office staff treat you like you are a bother. If you need to reach someone, you can't . No one returns calls. When I pick up my child in the evenings I see so many students sneaking back onto campus. The campus police just turn the other way. (Except for one time because the boys started fighting, they had to intervene). My child tells me you can smell weed on half the students. This school is really a disappointment. |
| 7/17/2011 | parent | My child goes to memorial, this is his senior year, I have been impressed with the special ed teachers, they really care for these kids and do all within their power to help them learn. Most teaching and administrative staff are easy to work with, if I have any questions or concerns I can go to almost anyone of his teachers and brainstorm possible solutions. The only negative I have to mention is that the Para' s they teamed up with my child would do his work for him instead of making him do his own work until the last few weeks of last year, they finally assigned him a para that made him do his own work and stay in class. I have hope that this year he will get better grades and get his diploma. |
| 4/29/2010 | other | When we went to enroll my niece the counsellor kept asking if we would allow them to test her for LD. She had been reading on a 12th grade level since 6th grade. I kept saying 'no.' She didn't even look at her transcript. Once we finally got her enrolled, she manipulated teachers all the time. Parent-teacher conferences were a joke. She finally got caught with pot and we pulled her out. I would never send a kid there again! |
| 8/28/2009 | student | I used to go there Freshman & Sophmore year and I absolutely love it!! Way more than Hale |
| 2/25/2008 | other | i graduated from memorial in 2005, and at the beginning of my tenure, it was a great place, but by my senior year, there was so much bureuacracy in the school that the students had absolutely no freedom at all, and this, a place that should be preparing us for college. |
| 12/31/2007 | parent | My daughter graduated from Memorial a few years ago and my son is a senior this year. Ms. Martin is in her second year as principal and I think she has done a super job! Both my children have scored high on standardized tests so I feel they have gotten a good education. The music department is great and the new band director has made a huge difference in the instrumental music program! |
| 12/11/2007 | parent | My daughter graduated from Memorial last year and my son is currently a sophmore. Since the new principal, Ms. Martin has assumed the helm things have really taken an up swing. She is great! I feel like if there is any problem I can go to her and get immediate action. The new band director is a huge improvement too. I see great things in this schools future. The only downside has been in the area of science and I hope that that too will be taken care of in due time. |
| 3/10/2007 | parent | My son has been a student at Memorial High School for 2 years. I have seen great improvements this year with the new principal Mrs. Martin. I believe she has my son's best interest at heart. The atmosphere within the school is a lot better than it was last year. |
| 7/23/2006 | student | Memorial high school is the worst public school I have ever been to! I would not reccomend my friends to go there! |
| 3/9/2006 | student | I am a fellow student and the Memorial Tai Chi club instructor at Memorial High School, Even though I am only a Freshmen I love my expereince at memorial. The teachers are nice, and the staff is great. Mr. McGinnis our principle is trying his best to make memorial a better place, I believe that High School is what you make of it. For those of you who think that memorial is a horrible school you are only looking at the negative side, try looking at the school from a possitive point of view. I hope that all parents will consider sending their students to memorial for it is truly a great school. |
| 2/10/2006 | student | I am a student at Memorial High School. I have attended this school for almost four years now and it is going nowhere but downhill. The new dean, Mr. Hines, and the principal, Mr. McGinnis are two of the worst administrators I have ever come in contact with. Mr. McGinnis is extremely biased against certain sports, coaches, and teachers. He is very difficult to deal with as a student and it almost seems as if he makes things hard on purpose. Mr. Hines is the most difficult man I have ever come in contact with. He preaches respect so much and in return does nothing but disrespect the students of Memorial. I would strongly encourage all parents to re-think any decision they might have about sending their children to Memorial until a drastic change has been made. |
| 1/19/2006 | parent | I wish that I could give a positive review of Memorial High School, but I can not. My daughter has attended memorial for 2 years and it has been the worst decision to have made as a parent. The school has drug and violence problems. The teachers are okay, but are too distracted with disciplinary action to teach. The Dean of Students this year,as well as most of the staff are extremly uncooperative with parents. The students there don't care about learning and make the whole school a very poor learning enviroment. |
| 1/26/2005 | former student | I am a former student of Memorial High school (c/o 2004). I am very upset at the way the school is running. There are only a few good teachers left and if a student gets stuck in a class they don't like, it is almost impossible to get out. I would rate a fairness scale at a zero for atleast 40% of the teachers there. They really don't seem to care about the students at all. Most of my friends there can't wait to graduate, if they even make it that far. I did not have a good experience there, and my future children will not be attending unless drastic changes are made. |
| 10/25/2004 | parent | My daughter has attended Memorial for the past two years and I am proud of the way the teachers and the principal are involved with the special needs kids of the school. The teaching team is WONDERFUL and the principal is extremely supportive. My son will attend this school next year and I am proud to say that this has been a wonderful educational experience for my daughter and will be most assured for my son. |
| 6/15/2003 | | I am a Tulsa Memorial Alum. (Class of 1999). I have a younger brother attending now and I am saddened by the downward spiral my school has taken since the arrival of the new principle Mr. McGuiness. He has caused every teacher who had any influence on my education to leave and has recently made a devistating decision concerning the athletic program. The positive side to this story is that the parents are very active and are taking action on this matter. Hopefully Memorial can be a school I am proud to say I attended which has not been the case for the past 2 years. |
