| 6/21/2012 | student | I believe that Lower Merion HS is a great school and they are good at making use of their funding, however, I did not feel making the athletic fields into parking lots was a good use of space and perhaps a small parking garage over the already existing parking lot would have been a better solution. I felt my education was very good and I always had quality text books and access to computers. Now being in the "real world" I would have like to see more emphasis on work place education such as EQ learning for inter-office communication and check book balancing but I believe this to be a systematic issue and not the schools issue. |
| 4/25/2011 | other | As an alumnus of Lower Merion, I can attest to the excellence of my education at this fine public high school. To this day I thank my English teachers for teaching me how to think critically and write. My classmates were incredibly bright. Yes, the experience was competitive, but I was very well-prepared for college. I also enjoyed the after-school activities, such as the Lower Merion Players, where I made many great friends. All in all, a terrific school. |
| 4/6/2011 | parent | LM is a fabulous school. The curriculum is varied, with an emphasis not only on excellent academic subjects, but on the arts as well. The new building is a phenomenal space with two theaters, an art studio with sophisticated ceramic equipment, an acoustically sound music classroom, as well as auditorium, and amazing gym facilities. Even the cafeteria is state of the art. The sports offerings are varied as well. The school's guidance counselors are very involved in the student's education, and they do a great job of helping those with any kind of learning issue. Every aspect of the school is top-notch. |
| 1/30/2010 | parent | Incredible experience for my kids. I have a son with special needs and the staff and students created an atmosphere that helped him grow, achieve and mature in ways that inspired everyone. I can't thank Lower Merion enough!! |
| 9/21/2009 | student | This is a really great school. They have an amazing selection of sports, extracurriculars, and clubs. One of the very few high schools in the country that has a crew team. It's easy to find great friends here, although the stereotype that Lower Merion kids are spoiled and snobby is unfortunately quite true. Of course not ALL the kids are like that, but no doubt if you go to this school you will encounter a good few. The teachers are, like my middle and elementary school (I've been in this district since kindergarten) very mixed; some are amazing, some are great, some are just fine, and others are simply awful But overall, this is a great school, and no matter who you are or where you come from, there's a place for you at LMHS. |
| 9/15/2009 | parent | It is so diverse. Not only does it have great sports teams, it has an excellent art and music department. |
| 5/12/2008 | student | I am a student at LMHS and I am impressed with the flexible academic and extra-curricular life here. I find that any level of student will find a place at LM and will not be placed in any level class that is out of their comfort zone. There is also a large amount of extra-curricular activities that are suitable for anyone. |
| 4/9/2008 | parent | This is a fantastic district. We came from Brookline, Mass. six years ago and couldn't be happier--our kids, now in ninth and fifth grades, are having a much stronger academic experience...and they have loads of friends. |
| 1/30/2008 | parent | I am so disappointed in this school, I can hardly put it into words. When we moved from out of state, we paid a tremendous premium to live in this district because the school enjoys such a great reputation. When we were looking at the course catalog, my children and I were so excited by what was offered. But the reality has been sharply different. My children's schedule is filled with study halls because those exciting courses aren't really available to all. They sit idle half the day and then their courses aren't very challenging at all. The teachers are a mixed bag, as in any school, but considering the extremely high taxes we pay for teacher salaries, I don't see why so much mediocrity is accepted. If this is really one of the top schools in the state, Pa is in very, very sad trouble. |
| 1/9/2008 | student | I am a student that goes to lower merion high school. I feel that the curriculum and the teachers do very well at their work. The extracurricular activities are really amazing. Meaning, that there is an extra curricular activity for all types of students. Whether it be sports, plays, cooking, art, community service, cheerleading/ drill team or technology. Anyone can find their place in school. |
| 6/2/2006 | parent | My daughter is graduating from LMHS this school year and I am very pleased with her education. LMHS has a rigrous education, honors and AP credits are numerous, music is state ranked both vocal and instrumental and their theater department is arguably one of the best in the country. The tennis team ranked first this year in the state, and the Basketball team was first in the state as well. Parents are actively involved. The community is down-to-earth and a child can succeed regardless of his/her social-economic status. |
| 1/10/2006 | parent | Lower Merion High School is recognized as outstanding by many, however its regard for its African American, Hispanic, low income and disabled students is disappointing to many, too. Check out the data for yourself. It reflects a truth of the 'culture' rarely mentioned in public. |
| 10/23/2005 | former student | Truly excellent school. Prepares students very well for college. |
| 6/22/2005 | parent | High quality of academic programs with honors, AP classes. Teaching varies greatly from great to mediocre. Class size in the 20s. Facilities are overcrowded and outdated, with new facility sometime in the future. Many extracurricular activities, including all sports, music, theatre. |
| 6/19/2005 | former student | This is an amazing school. |
| 4/5/2005 | parent | Lower Merion High School has the highest PSAT/SAT scores among public, non-magnet schools in Pennsylvania. The guidance staff and counselors are excellent |
| 2/13/2005 | former student | I am a graduate. LMHS provided a great education. My whole first year of college was basically a repeat of my senior year. |
