| 9/23/2008 | student | I used to attend University high school and it is one of the worst schools I have ever been to,and I am so happy that I do not attend there anymore. Not only is this school behind on educational standards but it's a school which makes you feel as if it's not even worth coming.First of all why should it be so hard to get in the school when school starts there is a long line of students trying to get in!There is not enough people caring at that school for it to be successful. |
| 2/2/2008 | teacher | As a profesional with decades of experience, I'd have to say it doesn't get much worse than University High. A large of the problem seems to be in the inability and/or unwillingness of administration to put an end to the behavioral circus. Disrespect for teachers, property serve to devalue the importance learning. IPods, cell phones, dancing, defiant giggling and routine fights fill much of the schedule. Add to this the fact that the security team is largely for show and often fails to do their part to make student truly accountable for horrendous behavior. In a sense, the administration works with students to insure no one wins and that they fail together. |
| 11/16/2007 | parent | How bad is bad when your son is enrolled at the school, plays on the varsity team and the administrative staff has no idea of his whereabouts or even if he is a member of the student body. This school lacks professionalism and integrity. No wonder the students do what they want and the parents want nothing to do with University City. They have no clue about what is going on there or who is in charge for the day and people want to blame parents and students. It all starts from the top, if the school cares, parents will care, and when the parents care the students will follow. |
| 10/26/2007 | parent | Its a shame that parents do not participate in anything. They have great new teachers this year and the school is doing their best. Parents need to stop complaining and step up. |
| 6/19/2007 | other | Sad how the school is being run. Grades, student behavior, and overall academic standard needs serious attention. |
| 12/12/2006 | parent | Even though most consider U-city a bad school I don't. I think it really depends on what program your child is in. My daughter is in Sem and she loves it and thrives there I have met everyone of her teachers and they are all fighting for change. the fault doesn't just lie in the teachers it lies in the students too if they are not willing to learn or show up to school there is nothing a teacher can. I also believe the new principal isn't helping the situation. for those who remember the previous principal can tell the difference. I've heard of the chaos, seen it and my daughter lives it but when you step into sem its a different world than the chaotic downstairs |
| 11/29/2006 | parent | I am a school district employee and a very concerned parent. The environment of the school is appalling. I believe this school is getting worse due to the ineffectiveness of large amount of teachers using their teaching techniques, lack of some staff members inexperience of dealing with problem situation, and no support programs to help students academically. It is very sad that the school district does not have empathy to make the right changes for our children. Test scores indicate that the system is failing the students. If you visit the school, you will walk into chaos. The principal has no repoire with parents or students. He acts really snooty. Please help our kids! |
| 12/29/2004 | parent | I have to admit, that this school was headed in the right direction a few years ago. But ever since they lost there old principal. this school has not been he same. The kids are NOT learning what they should. Dont get me wromg, they have LOTS of great teachers, that are doing their best to make sure the kids reach their educational goals. But the ladership coming from from above the teachers, really need a lot of help. The Philadelphia School District itself, needs a lot of help. |
