| 8/24/2012 | parent | This past year a couple female teachers seemed to me not to be professional they talk in a disrespectful way to students and expect to get good feed back from the students .( I experienced this because they seemed to talk down to me in conferences or via phone) I believe if there are students that cause the class not to learn they should be sent out of the class and not just detentions during lunch or after school ( if they stay in principals office maybe their parents would then care more and the students that care to learn would without the disturbances. So in short get the kids out of the classrooms that don't want to learn and let their parents deal with them so hopefully my child will learn this school year 2012-2013 |
| 8/23/2012 | parent | I felt I should post, since no one has in a few years. Sadly this school is going down hill quickly. I have only had good experiences with the teachers, but they are not able to teach. There are way too many children in the classes who need additional discipline that it takes away from the "good" kids. I think they need to get rid of the adminstration and start fresh. There are kids attending the school that do not live within the school district nor pay to attend the school. This is not an inner city school, but it certainly feels like it. If you can afford to go to private school, it would much better for your child's education to not attend this school. |
| 5/4/2010 | student | Sharon Hill School is and 'alright' school considering some of the teachers' behaviors towards students. Most teachers that I have had were nice but the alternative teachers of that grade always seemed to be altogether just bad teachers. They could teach the material but no one would listen and they seemed not to like being in the classroom environment. Some teachers don't even listen to what a student has to say when they make a mistake or the teacher doesn't like something the student does. Sharon Hill School has a lot of activities like PSSA Spirit Week, Talent Shows, Fundraisers, etc. The fact that Sharon Hill has changed its principals after they have only worked there for 1 (or sometimes 2) school years. In years, 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 the school has hired security to help stop violence in the school. It has only helped cut down, maybe, 1/5 of the violence. |
| 9/28/2007 | parent | I feel the new administration is really working hard to excel in academics and positive reinforcements in the school. I have always liked the teaching staff and I'm glad they didn't change administrators this year. It gives the students a greater sense of security. |
| 4/2/2007 | parent | I just recently relocated to this district and have a young child attending Sharon Hill Ele. I had to make a few trips to the school in a month and 1/2 to address safety issues. If the severe discipline/safety problems were handled effectively, I believe the good teachers could actually teach instead of acting as wardens. The good children suffer tremendously here. My child does not want to go to school. I am new to this area and did not do my homework on this school before moving into the district. I am praying that she can just finish out the school year without getting hurt. I am writing this review to alert other parents of the serious problems at this school. |
| 2/9/2007 | parent | The academic expectation or this school is extremely low, there aren't enough staff to control the children, this school is a mad house and I have removed my daughter from the district. |
| 10/11/2006 | parent | Sharon Hill School is a great learning institute. My daughter has attended since the first grade and is in fourth grade. The teachers are very loving and considerate of the students feeling. Sometimes as adults we forget children have a voice and at Sharon Hill School they allow the children to be heard. I would recommend this school to any and everyone. Keep up the great work. |
| 9/18/2006 | parent | Sharon Hill School is a great school. Although, their PSSA test scores were relatively below average last year, the teachers and the parents work together to maintain a healthy learning environment for the children. |
| 11/9/2005 | parent | Lack of in school instruction in regard to reading, writing, as well as math studies. There also seemes to be a serious lack of communication from certain teachers in regard to the progress of the students. I have seen schools where they seem not to care about the students and the progress they are making, but this school may be the worst I've seen. |
| 9/27/2005 | former student | This is one of the most underrated schools in the county. Sharon Hill School offers excellent learning support with a warm and welcoming staff. |
| 8/12/2005 | parent | My son has done well there, but many of the children come to school unprepared to learn and create discipline problems for all the others. |
| 8/7/2005 | parent | There are some good teachers in this school |
| 2/24/2005 | parent | The teachers are excellent. There are so many activities that are completely enriching. the staff has many issues to deal with on a regular basis and they do it well. |
| 1/19/2005 | parent | For the most part, the teachers here are compassionate, professional educators. However, some teachers could stand some sensitivity training to help them better understand the changing dynamics of Sharon Hill's socio-economical and cultural shift in recent years. Children are not adequately given an opportunity to excel and the archaic policies do very little to reverse this practice. The Home & School Association is not an effective means of getting most parents involved and is perceived to be more of a clique than an actual vehicle of parent/teacher interaction. Overall, serious change needs to occur for this school to stay a step above the urban-metro schools which it seeks to separate itself from. |
| 9/6/2004 | former student | Sharon hill was a great experience for me, I liked it very much. I am still in High School but I transferred out of the school district. Two of my younger brothers still attend there and they are both happy to be there. Even though it isnt the safest school it has many great veteran teachers which help you not only in school but out of school as well. I believer the school is beginning to look better now since the new addition has been put onto it. Many people look at Sharon hill school and think it is just a mess of a school, but people who go there understand how nice it is and are going to be very displeased once they leave it. I think Sharon Hill was a great school |
