| 9/21/2012 | parent | Our son had a great experience at CMA. The staff and faculty are caring and concerned about the boys that attend the academy. The college classes our son took at Camden helped him tremendously in college by giving him a leg up in his coursework. I would recommend the school to anyone who hs a son that wants to learn self discipline and how to properly interact with his peers. The school has been a blessing to our family and we could not have been happier with the people who work there. |
| 9/4/2012 | parent | I would advise anyone who is considering this school for their child to hear me. The things that you are told are far from the truth. The students are hazed so badly, with the knowledge and approval of many staff members, I am surprised there are not more suicides. My son went there at the age of 14, is now 32 and has sever anxiety from the unjust treatment. God is healing him but this should have NEVER happened. We trusted this school with his life. I teach school and understand the problems that come with disabilities such as disorganization, lack of focus and ability to retain information but treating young boys like they do only makes it worse. My heart brakes for these children who are there. If you are still considering this as an option please precede with caution. You don't get that time back or to replace bad memories with good ones. There is not a rating that I can give them that is just. I hope things have changed, especially with the authority given to the upper classmates. Outside the school, people are serving time for this type of behavior. |
| 8/2/2012 | other | I live near the school and can honestly say that the Cadets are the most respectful teenagers that I have ever seen. They are all very polite and helpful young men. Camden Military Academy is a blessing to the Camden community. |
| 3/29/2012 | parent | Camden has been a life-changing experience for not only my son but the entire family. Grant, my son, is currently in his 2nd year, is in the 9th grade and currently on Honor Roll. He has learned a measure of patience and the importance of discipline, but most importantly he has experienced progressive success, both large and small steps, while in a strict and nurturing environment. When AMTRAK changed their policy, I was stunned and frantic. However, with the help of Camden Administration, I am now in a car pool that is working smoothly. Richmond, VA to Camden, SC is 338 miles....it can be done. Lastly, a personal "shout-out" to Sergeant Major Wilder, Grant's TACT Officer, for his endless patience, kindness and willingness to tackle any issue that concerns one of his cadets. " on Camden Military Academy's timeline. |
| 3/28/2012 | parent | Camden military has been the best thing that has happened to our son and we are very thankful for the support Camden has given our son. He has been there for a year now and he has lots of self confidence now and better grades. |
| 3/26/2012 | parent | We enrolled our son in Camden 3 months ago. The difference in him in that time period is amazing. He's consistently on the Deans list, is participating in sports and doing special projects without constant whining. He had some rough spots getting along with other boys at first, but I attribute that to him having to realize the Universe doesnt revolve around him. He is making friends and seems to have adjusted very well. He says he finds the academics easy, but I think that is due to the very small class sizes, mandatory study halls and mentoring from instructors and staff. |
| 12/27/2010 | parent | C.M.A turned my son around he attended three years. He learned many life lessons there.I was very pleased with all teachers, coaches and tac officers. He is now in college doing well. This would not have been possible if he had not gone to C.M.A |
| 11/27/2010 | other | I spent the worst 4 years of my life here. Staff is indifferent, except for a few caring teachers. Life in the barracks is harsh, and the older students ruthlessly haze the younger ones, or "new boys". Academics is ridiculously easy, and the military aspect is over-emphasized. The merit/demerit system is rife with abuse. Do not send your children here if you love them. |
| 11/8/2010 | parent | My son has attended Camden for his Jr and Sr years. The school turned a D-F student who hated school to a student who is on the Dean's list and will go to college. vIt turned his life around |
| 6/29/2010 | parent | Our son came to CMA with a few 'adolescent wrinkles' due to his need for more structure. We felt the support /leadership CMA offered, combined with athletics and classroom opportunities for advanced courses would give him the structure he needed. However, like any school, CMA was not perfect. He had to choose to succeed; it was not a given. He saw choices others made and their positive/negative consequences. The key ingredient that made CMA so successful for our son was the opportunity for him to live with and learn from CMA s teachers, coaches and staff. Their mentoring, their leadership and their willingness to take time with our son helped set the high standards he rose to. He entered CMA as a -ager who used most of his energy pushing against the grain. He graduated from CMA as a more focused young man whose energy is now directed into bettering himself. |
| 6/21/2010 | parent | Our son attended CMA and it was just what he needed to guide him onto a track that would lead him to success for the remainder of high school. The academics are focused and offer support. His tac officer was great and the support from the administration was excellent. He was able to participate in several sports and was involved and successful. The lessons and values that he learned while at CMA helped him stay on track and graduate with success. This was definately what we needed to get our son through a troubling stage in his high school years. He will be attending a large University this fall, and I am sure that this success can be attributed to the growth he achieved and the lessons he learned at CMA. |
| 6/20/2010 | parent | Our son attended CMA for 3 years...the BEST decision he ever made was to go away to CMA. We visited several other boarding military school our son after one visit knew CMA was the school for him. Our son learned many valuable lessons at CMA...respect of all types of people, discipline on the soccer field, football and in the classroom, strong leadership principals, challanging academic programs he took dual classes and will start his freshman year at college ahead of the game, he was awarded the ROTC scholarship. As a parent I can say our son is very PROUD of himself and all he accomplish while attending CMA. The best choice we ever made was to allow him to attend CMA. He'd tell you the very same thing if you'd ask him. |
| 4/19/2010 | parent | My son attended CMA for 2 years. I trusted the staff, but they are not how they present. There is very little supervision. There is alot of stealing and fighting that does not get investigated. My son had 3 Ipods stolen and the response from adminiustration was that there was nothing they could do. When I attempted to discuss other concerns, the admisnistration was defensive and unwilling to admit any responsibility. My son left there more confused and damaged than when he entered. |
| 8/6/2009 | parent | camden military academy, best thing I ever did for my son excellent teachers ,coaches and most of all tac officers .I highly recommend this school. |
| 6/21/2008 | parent | We had so much trouble from our son, disrespect, lieing, cheating and most of all a weak student. At first he demonstrated all the above mentioned behavior and more, but after the Thanksgiving break he begin to change. More responsible, and his grades were much better. By the end of the year he had improved in all aspects. Heis currently working for the summer. His room is 100% improved, he wants to become a professonal, not that being a Rock Star is not professional but getting a commision after graduation from college is more realistic. He will be returning next year and if all remains well he will graduate from Camden Military Academy. |
| 9/1/2004 | parent | Camden Military Academy provided many opportunities for learning leadership and responsiblity for your own actions. His teachers gave much time one -on-one. The nightly study hall that has a teacher and another adult in the barracks available to give help and monitor that homework was being done was a great benefit for our son. The method of praise earning merits for good work and hard effort taught him to work harder for things he wanted. The student body being from all over the country and the world taught our son to respect others and to get along with all types. The military leadership program encourages honor, self discpline and the boys to always try their best. All classes are college prep. Many are advanced placement. The concern and caring staff and faculty is always available for the boy or his parents. Our experince makes us proud to have a child that graduated from Camden Military Academy. |
