10/1/2012otherCCA has become a place that is only focused on its test scores. Period. Everything revolves on the image and not substance. I was asked to leave because my math scores were not high enough. I know others who have been booted out as well, some in the middle of their senior year. Admission to CCA is supposed to be based on audition, but it isn't. Your academic record can make or break your admission regardless of your audition.
1/26/2012otherI attended CCA from 2002-2006, It was a great school, but during my senior year they would not cooperate with the senior body. but other than that it is a good school and would most likely send my daughter to that school.
11/14/2011otherCCA is a school of over acheivers. There, of course, are a few who find the work load a little to rigorous but for those who enjoy a challenge along with being further educated in the arts, CCA is the school for you. I am now a senior at CCA and although it is extremely stressful, it will be worth it. Due to the fact that CCA is one of the top school not only in our surrounding areas but also the state, having that name on my transcript will be an acheivment no one can overlook. The teachers are excellent. To tell the truth their a breath of fresh air. Every teacher you'll encounter at CCA has not only the willingness to help you suceed but the determination to see you through all your years at CCA. I love them all and will miss them greatly.
6/12/2011otherI attended CCA from 2004-2008, grade 9 to grade 12. I can honestly say they were four of the most amazing years of my life. Not only was it a school where it was safe to be open about every part of who I was, but also a place I could grow and be pushed to improve myself, not only by the strong arts programs but also by the equally strong academics. Some may say the academics are not where they need to be, but as someone who is one year from finishing college and has taken plenty of courses in natural science, math, foreign language and may other academic fields, I was very prepared and I have the grades to show it. The school has a strong identity of what it is. There is an excellent community of students who care for one another. Violence was an incredibly rare occurrence in my days there. The teachers are actively involved in students lives and since the school is so small, teachers are able to get to know their students individually. No school is perfect and CCA is no exception, but if you are a student who has a passion for the arts and wants a school with caring teachers and a student body who are much better at accepting differences than the average teens, CCA is the place.
3/15/2010studenti love cca this is my first year and i love it and i allways hated school espeiccly brown middle but cca is the best
8/13/2009studentCCA is a shcool of exceptance, where the students all look out for each other and treat each other like family. If someone needs help, others are sure to be their. I abslutly love CCA- it is the best school I've ever attended- any student their will tell you the smae exact thing!
4/2/2009studentThis school is amazing. There are very few fights if any and both the academic and creative classes help you grow as a person and what ever your major is. It would recommend this school to anyone with the vigor to work hard and strive from the best.
11/5/2008studentCenter for Creative arts is a school with both rigorous academic and artistic courses. I started attending late in my high school career, but that did not stop the other students from embracing me. As a junior, I was able to take 4 AP classes, all taught at national Advanced Placement standards. My other classes were almost just as difficult, if not on almost the same level. And, my arts classes... They provided the nurturing I needed in order to grow individually as an artist and as a person. To put it simply, CCA is an amazing place, full of caring teachers and accepting students.
10/6/2008studentThis school is the best thing that ever happened to me. I have finally found a safe, accepting, and nurturing environment in which to perfect my art. It is true that there are no sports but are also no fights, gangs, or other various problems that hinder education elsewhere. This school is not for the close-minded
8/21/2008studentthis school is ok but if you are someone who is not artistic it is a akward atmosphere. I have been there for 3 years and i want to move on to another school. I dont like that you dont get to change schools it kind of gets old. But dont get me wrong if you are artistic then this is a perfect school for you.
6/16/2008studentI attended cca this past school year as a ninth grader, and it was definitely the wrong place for me. I am and always have been a straight-a student, and the idea that cca's academics are rigorous is simply not true. Not only was i able to maintain straight as with little to no effort, in the second 9 weeks i earned straight 100s. The writing program was abysmal, but that could change because a new teacher will be taking over that department in the fall. My german class was absolutely excellent, but sadly german will no longer be offered at cca after next year. The school puts far too much emphasis on its arts and not nearly enough on academics. If you are an academic achiever, you will not be happy here!
5/29/2008otherI loved attending CCA it was the best thing ever. I loved that I could do arts but also get a very good education.
2/20/2008parentThis is a great school. The arts are very focused upon and the academics are outstanding.
12/19/2007otherI loved attending school at CCA and will forever miss it. This school is truly unique. Unlike most other schools in our area there is a low conflict level and every student is encourged to be themselves. We were always like one big family. The teachers were great and the ap classes were a huge help. Dance will always be a part of my life thanks to this school. I miss it very much.
12/15/2007otherI use to go to this school in 6th and 7th grade and it's great if you plan on studying in fine arts. They will adjust your schedule to fit your level. I miss CCA a lot!!
12/7/2007studentI've been going for years now, and I absolutely adore the school.
11/3/2007studentThis school is so awesome!!
8/25/2007parentThis school is excellent! Not only are the art programs amazing, the academics are as well! It's a college bound school so my daughter is a year ahead of most students and AP classes and dual enrollment is encouraged. Each student gets a personalized schedule to fit their needs and wants. The teachers are friendly, quirky, and knowledgable. My daughter is taking three AP classes there and a college class at a local university thanks to the encouragement for academic achievement she got from the administrators and guidance counselors. I don't understand how anyone could think this school isn't academically focused. It's much better academically than most other schools in the district! I've had my eldest daughter there for almost six years and my second daughter there for almost four. Both of them love the diversity, acceptance, and overall friendliness of the school.
8/30/2006former studentI adored this school while I was at it. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, you're taught in new ways that are easier to remember, and the focus on the arts in highly impressive. I miss CCA terribly and I support the school in every field. Unlike some schools you feel part of this school, not some lumped in student that no one knows the name of. The teachers make a point to get to know their student and help them and give them self esteem boosts in any way possible. The school may be 6-12 but that shouldn't scare anyone away, highschoolers help the middle school crowd out and there are never conflicts concerning grade level. In the arts teachers and students learn from one another, and by that I mean they try and master new ways in their art forms. This school is the most accepting school I know of.
8/3/2006former studentCCA is great in some ways, and unsatisfactory in others. It is a really refreshing departure from the atmosphere of other chattanooga public schools, providing an intimate and comfortable envioronment for talented students who may struggle in the socially oppressive and overly strict envioronments of other schools. You develop a tough skin at CCA, being subjected to competition amongst your highly talented peers, and criticism from your arts teachers. I consider this one of the positive aspects of attending because of the exposure and experience it gave me. However this school lacks the actual artistic training its intended to provide. The performing arts programs seemed to be more focused on each students contribution to the faculty's productions than the development of each student's talent.
5/26/2006studentThis school is completely amazing. I've only been here for one year so far, and I know that this is the best school on the planet. The academics department deserves more than what is said in previous reviews. It, not only is more challenging for the students, but the teachers will guide you through it. This is an arts school, so obviously the arts are great. This whole school is organized perfectly. I am glad we don't have sports. We need to focus on the arts. And for that parent who thinks that the only reason that we dont have sports is for budget cuts, you are wrong. And the level of parent involvment is like nothing I've ever seen before. I am proud to say that I am the president of the 9th grade class next year.
4/13/2006parentMy son has been at this school for 4 years now and he and I both love the school. They have a good academic program as well as lots of art based curriculum. The teachers and students at the school care about each other and their school/community. I highly recomment the Center for Creative Arts for any child that has a natural love of the arts.
1/2/2006parentI know this is a liberal arts type school but I do think there should be more athletics at the school. I am aware of the cut in funding but it would not cost much to add track and volleyball to the your program. I have heard many students voice there concern about the lack of sports. I think a student should be well rounded, when I see our students try to participate in basketball I realize we need sport activities at our school as well.
10/3/2005former studentI spent a total of four years at this school, and I hated every single minute. Admittedly, it is a fantastic school for musical theatre and sometimes drama, but for everything else it's terrible. The academics in particular are ridiculously bad.
7/12/2005studentThis school is awesome! The academic program is growing and improving. The whole school is about music, art, dancing, acting, writing, and singing. Unfortunitly there are no sports but basketball, but the art classes are so fun for students. They even got to work with an artist to make a huge sculpture last year! The level of parent involvement is high because each family is required 18 hours of volunteering, but they are really easy to get. My daughter loves this school!
1/18/2005former studentCCA was the best school experience I ever had. Being creative, I never could work in a tradional class room and my peers were less than understanding of me. At CCA there were no cliques because everyone understood each other. I had the most friends I had ever had there. I wanted to go to school everyday and I looked forward to everyday. I wish was there now.
3/9/2004parentI took my child out of this school because the teachers were more concerned with the performing arts programs and the level of academic importance was not stressed.
1/8/2004parentOur experience through 2-1/2 years was absolutely wonderful. The student body at CCA is without a doubt the most supportive I have ever encountered for fellow students. Of course, the arts emphasis is quite good, and we found that the school did a pretty good job of preparations for college life (son currently enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University with a 3.1+ average). I think it a tremendous plus that the school has little emphasis on athletics, yet the students seem to be quite well adjusted. I would most highly recommend this school, the earlier the better, but it's not easy to get accepted.
11/22/2003parentWhat a wonderful school! Not one moment of regret after sending our daughter there. She is happy, excited, engaged in both the curriculum and her arts classes. She takes Drama and Ballet and greatly enjoys both of them. The academics are exactly what other schools are doing, they just find more interesting ways of teaching them. Just what my daughter needs. Also, it is a good mix of children. I was worried about the wide age-span of 6-12, but some of her friends are in High School and they tend to look out for her, mentor to her, and give her someone to look up to. Great school, great staff, great administration!
