4/12/2012studentI love NEHS. I was at NEHS for 4 years straight and it was amazing. The teachers as well as the principals put so much encouragement into the children as well as instill in you the determination that I once did not have for myself. Also, the guidance counselors were very helpful in being available when you needed them and having great advice. The whole staff as a whole were provided a great environment for the students especially if you were involved in as much as I was.
1/16/2012parentThis a great school. The teachers treat the students as if they are there friends and to me thats what helps kids learn better. The girls basketball team could use a little more work but as for the boys basketball team they have gotten really good and have already won the Christmas Tournament.
1/13/2012parentMy son loves this. The principals are really friendly and you see them at practically all the basketball games. The teachers show a lot of effort in helping the students also. I would recommend this school to anyone.
1/7/2012parentThis has to be the best school in Montgomery County. The principals are wonderful and so are the teachers. My child never wants to miss a day because she loves it so much.
6/6/2011studentI am one of only 8 students in this past senior class and my grades speak for themselves. Not the work of the teachers but the countless hours put in at home teaching myself after not getting adequate instruction in the classroom. I finished school with a 3.71 GPA and #9 in my class. I don't give much credit to the teachers for that when I spent my nights doing homework from the second I get home until midnight everyday. I'm not just "one of those kids who doesn't study and complains" that the teacher is not doing their job. Just because the same problems go on at the other schools doesn't make it right for this school to live up to those problems too. I fault the district just as much. Especially the snow day policy, knowing we will miss more than 3 days we're given. We go 30 extra minutes for 3 and 1/2 weeks and it only made up one of the many days we missed. Teachers are very quick to use the students as scapegoats to cover themselves from getting in trouble. You would get the same honest opinion from many past and former students. Some students have ran off numerous teachers to other jobs, especially losing 3 my freshman year because they couldn't handle the students.
2/15/2011studentAlthough multiple people blame the students, teachers, or the staff as a part, it does not change the fact why fellow students do retain a dislike over the school as a whole. The classroom setting is determined partly upon the mind state of the teacher, and the willingness of the students. The complaints of any teacher in this school, from observing firsthand, are partly unjust on the student's behalf. In any way, my opinion of the the teachers here vary with the teacher, but overall most do know, in my opinion, "how to teach". However, there are some teachers that do not teach in a manner in which some students do not understand. We do have good teachers that teach well. Most of the students that I see complain are the ones I know who do not study, or the ones who do not pay attention. There have been complaints on a daily basis by some teachers, and multiple students on the organization of the school. The organization of the school is worthy of being questionable, but this school, being part of a system of schools, more than likely follows certain parameters bestowed by the system it is a part of. -T.H.
10/28/2009parentWell, this is my daughter's 2nd year at NEHS. At first, I truly had lots of concerns about the safety of the students. The school was just too crowded. Due to the rezoning the school population is smaller and according to the Guidance Counselor more manageable. (Mrs. Warhurst is awesome). I believe the school just gets bad media. The issues that I see at NEHS, is happening at the 'other' schools but just not advertised at the same level. I do believe that there is room for improvement with the administration, (but that goes with all of us). As for the students that are having problems with courses the school does offer tutoring. It is imperative that parents stay involved with the schools in order that there is that support for the staff and students.
1/19/2009studentI'm a student at Northeast High School, and frankly, I'm embarrassed to say I'm a student here. This school lacks control over the students. Safety is a concern of mine at this school. The teachers do not spend enough time on lesson plans. They cram all they can into one class period and there is never time to review over what we just learned or have time for questions. It's not uncommon for a student to have five test to study for in one night, and take all five of those test the very next day. On top of that, teachers pile on homework on test nights, usually the homework pertains to a lesson we haven't covered yet. Literally, I haven't learned anything in my English class. Our teacher will hand out an assignment for us to complete, and she didn't even teach the lesson. It's for us toteach ourselves.
1/14/2009parentI have been disappointed in NEHS since my daughters enrollment. The school has few caring teacher and the ones who do care are getting drained from non support of adminstrators as well as their peers. I agree the dress code seems much more important than the quality of education, what a joke. I fear for my daughters safety because of the lack of control over the entire student body. No one cares if the children receives an education or not. I pity the students who think education is a joke. The student dont care because the some of teachers dont care. They will soon realize the attendance diploma basically holds no value, what so ever and is a crutch to pass failing students. I concur with the others that the students are basically teaching themselves with little or no assistance from many of their teachers. These children are our future.
12/9/2008studentI'm a student here, and this has to be the most dysfunctional school on earth. The teachers don't even teach. They expect way to much. The teachers don't put the effort in teaching that I put forth doing my work. We get these assignments before we get the lesson 'if' we get the lesson. We take our own notes. Teachers have no idea if we understand or not. I have to teach myself at home what to do. The school day never ends for me at the end of school; it ends at something like 12:00 AM each night. If they attempt to give notes, they don't go over it, they just let us figure out for ourselves. They have no control over students. They can talk as loud and as much as they want. Students basically run the school. The cutting in the lunch lines. Awful school.
12/7/2008parentMy daughter has been going here for 3 years and my son is in his 1st year. I have not had any problems as a parent. If we run into problems we communicate with the counselors or the Principal and it all works out. This school has the highest graduation rate in the county, so that has to say something!
5/28/2008otherThis is a great school. Ive had nothing but postive experiences with the staff, teachers and students
5/6/2008studentthis school is a great school to go to. Yes ever school has there troubles but this school knows how to deal with all of it and have fun doing it. NEHS the best school in the county!
4/23/2008parentI am a sophmore and they refuse to teach me anything the teachers sit on their behinds and talk on their cell phones...
1/7/2008studentI am currently a student at NEHS. Im a freshman and have been going to Northeast schools since 1st grade. I am very disappointed and surprised by the lack of organization this school has. The teachers are inadequate and don't seem to want to teach. They tell us to read the book and 'figure it out ourselves.' The school worries more about how many students are failing and won't graduate then the students who need to be placed in higher classes. They have more programs for failing students and unorganized students than those who are looking for more options and advice about college and EC activities. HS is all about preparing students for college and their futures, but NEHS is definitely not doing so. Most teachers are uninterested in communicating with parents and returning calls/notes. The school is so overcorwded, we share lockers!
10/26/2007parentMy experiences at this school has been nothing positive. Their faculty and student body is extremely welcoming. Their soccer team is one of the top programs in the region. I have nothing to say except for good comments.
8/28/2007parentThis is our first year in Northeast H.S, The staff seems to be very knowledgable, organized and curteous. they have been quick to address and resolve any concerns I have had. The school spirit & enthusiasm is a wonderful perk!
8/26/2007studentThe school is very over crowded. The locker arrangement is horrible. The lunch set up and food is what you would expect in an elementary school. At first look it says 'highschool' but be a student for a day and it will seem very much like an elementary school. The students are actually learning less with these rules in place at the moment.
8/22/2007studentWhile, there are quite a few good teachers at northeast high (Mr. Gilliam and Mrs. Zirkle), the school its self is horrible. The school lacks any form of organization and does not communicate with the parents or the students. Mrs. Champion has introduced new concepts to northeast that, while they are good in theory, do not work in real life. I am very sad to say that I am a student at this school.
7/23/2007studentI am a graduate of class 2003. My overall experience with northeast was 50/50. There were good and bad teachers. Education techniques were the same. All in all, they have made a difference in my life. I am well on my way to obtaining my bachelors in teaching as well and only hope i turn out like the few good ones I had the privelege of meeting. Mrs. Zirkle- science is the best! Mr. Rodriguez- math the most challenging :) all in all great people who have left a mark on my life forver! Thank you Elaina Howser
3/23/2007former studentI had the best moments of my life at this school and met some unforgettable people. The teachers were great and Mrs. Champion the school principle was very supportive and spirited towards her students.
1/4/2007parentThe school is overcrowded which effects quality of education the teachers are able to provide. It is almost impossible to communicate with the teachers and staff. K-12 Planet is provided parents to keep track of their student's progress, but several teachers do not keep the system updated. There are some excellent teachers in the school, but they are overworked and cannot address student's individual needs.
1/30/2005teacherThis school does not communicate with parents, nor does it actually service any child with disabilities, they do not utilize the counselors in helping IEP students to acheive their best through classes and they do not seem to care if that child gets the education at their best learning capacity. The obsession of controling childrens thoughts and dress code seem to be of greater importance than their educational needs.
