| 9/26/2012 | parent | As the past PTA President for 2 years I feel very lucky for our family that we moved into the Cunningham Elementary School Zone. With a great principal and many great teachers our children areLEARNING and ENJOYING THEMSELVES! From the PEAS Community Farm @ Cunningham to the Micro Society After School Program our children don't want to go home they are having so much fun! |
| 6/26/2011 | parent | Our daughter has attended Cunningham for 1st and 2nd grade and we are looking forward to 3rd grade. The teachers and staff are dedicated to the students. When our daughter began 1st grade she was behind in her reading level. With the help of her teacher and the reading specialist, she ended the year above level in reading. |
| 4/11/2011 | parent | Cunningham may be a school that works well for most children, but it is not one that challenges children who may be a little ahead of the learning curve. The teachers are not trained tore recognize or are not willing to accept that children may be more gifted than they are used to seeing. As a school that teaches to the masses, they do a wonderful job. For the outlyers, they fail miserably. I am concerned about the length of time that the teachers have been there. We brought up some legitimate concerns regarding behavor issues, and bullying, and my child was told by his teacher that he was imagining it. Whether this is true or not is irrelevant, as children should feel safe when bringing up issues with thier teachers. I am very unhappy with the way parental concerns are handled at a parent teacher level. I am waiting to hear back from the principal regarding this to see how this is handled. |
| 9/24/2010 | teacher | Cunningham Elementary is a wonderful place to be/work. Simply put, we are a family. We support each other. We care about each other, and we do all that we can to help our students be successful in school and in life. We care about our community, and we care about the environment. We are a "green campus" that tries to compost, recycle (including old batteries) and give to those in need, even though we don't have as much as some schools might. We are doing our best and we have Cobra Pride! Cunningham's the very best-yessssssss! |
| 5/4/2010 | other | This school has excellant teachers. All the administration and teachers are more than willing to answer questions and help where they are able. Very friendly |
| 4/26/2010 | parent | I love Cunningham Elementary school because of all the staff and students. We are always working with one another for our students because they are our number one priority. We have started working on our courtyard since last year and we have made so much progress with the kids and parents help. They take pride in helping out to beautify our school. |
| 4/26/2010 | other | Cunningham has a real sense of community. Many parents and grandparents participate in all kinds of school activities including volunteer opportunities. The students take a lot of pride in their school. |
| 4/25/2010 | parent | Excellent school. Skilled and loving teachers. Great involvement from the community. |
| 4/24/2010 | other | Cunningham's faculty and staff have become very community oriented. They have involved parents and even neighbors in restoring the campus courtyard, a garden, recycling and other green projects. The children are learning to care for the world while striving for high academic achievements as well. |
| 2/9/2010 | parent | My son has attended Cunningham for 1st and 2nd grades. His teachers have been very helpful and are flat out terrific. My son needs speech therapy and has been getting the help he needs with that and extra help with reading which goes hand and hand with his speech disorder. Thanks teachers and therapist for your help. |
| 7/8/2009 | parent | My daughter attended preK this past year and will now be in kinder for the 09-10 school year, The teachers were great this year, alot of parent involvment and a sense of community is very present at the school. |
| 8/2/2007 | parent | My oldest child has attended Cunningham since 2003 an finished her last year this past year and she has had great teachers and intervention when needed. My child would not have been able to achieve what she has if it were not for a school that cares. The parents are also great! All my child have attened Cunningham and will complete their eduction here. Way to go Cunningham ! |
| 8/11/2006 | parent | great school and super teachers! |
| 9/27/2005 | parent | Mi hijo is in third grade bilingual class. He is very happy and we like the education he is getting. |
| 8/8/2005 | parent | I think the teachers are great. |
| 5/26/2005 | parent | My children are currently enrolled at Cunningham. I have had a very good experience there for the last 4 yrs. The parental involvement is wonderful and the teachers and principals have really helped my children achieve and maintain A+-B grades... Very happy here |
| 1/7/2004 | parent | I volunteer in my child's classroom and work with my child every day with their struggles and successes. Parents are the biggest influence in the success of a student. Sometimes we are too quick to blame others like the school or teachers. Teachers and schools are just doing what they are asked to do by AISD and the State of Texas. Be a major part of your child's education. |
| 8/14/2003 | parent | I agree totally with the comments on the TAKS test. My son was a 3rd grader last year. I truly think the school has the best intentions. However, they push too hard for TAKS and not the overall knowledge for the children. These kids are counting on our teachers to provide them with the best education avaiable. They aren't 18 yet, they don't know to further educate themselves. We as parents, teachers and colleagues, we must stay on top of this! Let's all work together to provide the best education...the TAKS test will come with that. |
| 6/2/2003 | | I believe that Cunningham is only focused on the TAKS test and not on the development of students. This year our children were rushed to learn the TAKS information only. Student were peer pressured and bribed to pass the TAKS test so that the school/teachers would rate high. You know that something is wrong when a student is on the A/B honor roll all year and will fell because the student can't pass the TAKS reading test. You have to ask how the students are being graded. Example of the fact that this TAKS test is being crammed down students throats is that a child has failed to pass the TAKS test 3 times in a row; so the child is taken out of class and put into a special reading classes 3 times a week, as well as 3 times a week with an after school tutor. The child still has to make-up the missed work in which puts extra pressure on the student. The student is excused from all spelling test due to the special reading class. Now ask yourself is this how our children should be taught? By the time 3rd grade is over students should know their multiplication tables through 12, well not this year. The main subjects were barely touched on due to the TAKS test and Cunningham s poor ratings. What will become of the next generation? Our children s education is no joke! |
