But overall it is a wonderful school. Now that i am at elgin my behavior has gotten better, my grades have gotten better,and i even have higher standards for myself than i had before. And i rate this school as a 7 and wish the best luck to all of the new studunts and staff! |
| 3/6/2009 | parent | In 2004 Texas Empowerment Academy was introduced to my family throught our neighbors. My wife and I have had two children attend the Academy. My wife and I had the original concept of trying something that was non traditional and seem to be not so chaotic, and uninspiring. Our expectations of motivating teachers, enthusiasim, and general concern for the students success seemed to be met during the years of 2004-2006. Unfortunately Texas Empowerment Academy has taken a turn for the worst. Leadership is very key in a staff. If your staff is unorganized, non-communicative with parents, and in complete disarray then you can best believe so is the leadership. This educational facility has really lost the intent of what a charter school is all about. School, parents, and child all make up the complete circle of a childs education. The School has been left out of the cirle. |
| 2/20/2008 | teacher | This school is excellent for grades 5-8, which is the main focus. The 9th grade can help a child get ahead that might have fallen behind the first year in high school. Most charter schools are better than regular schools through middle/junior high. For higher learning they set a great foundation for the increased challenges of higher level HS courses like honors and AP. This school is excellent for young men lacking discipline. As opposed to the WOT Ann Richards school, this is the school that the AISD failed to build for troubled young boys, that is really need far more than a **SBO recruitment academy. |

| 3/23/2006 | parent | My son attended TEA from 2001 to 2004. I will first of all say it was difficult. We had some family problems, his sister went off to college; he just had a lot of life changes. Mr. Nowlin was firm. Sometimes too firm but firm nonetheless. Ms. White taught Alex well. But overall, I would give the school a B-. Alex received an education. He is well ahead of the other children in his algebra and history courses. He was in honors english but he didn't like the pressure. I believe the school is good for younger children. It's not so good for high schoolers. Maybe in the future, there should be two principals. One for middle and one for upper levels. I wish them well because Alex is graduating and going to college. I just want to say THANKS. |
| 10/31/2004 | parent | This is a nice school. In my opinion, it is a recovery school. It teaches the students good study habits, self dicipline, and it makes leaders out of followers. Even though it does all of these great things, its not a school you would want to keep your child at forever. It's a school you would want them to stay at for two years, maximum. After a while, most of the students beg to leave. Im not bashing the school, but its like a 'pitt stop for rejects'- in the words of my own daughter. It takes in the students who cant learn well or are labeled with ADD and teaches them how to over come that. Overall (in conclusion) its a great school to have you child for up to two years that will teach them great habits for life. |

| 8/24/2004 | parent | When my husband and I made the decision to switch from a traditional public school to the Texas Empowerment Academy, we needed a school that would academically challenge our children (we have three in the school). Texas Empowerment Academy did not disappoint us! As concerned and involved parents, we both appreciate a school that sets high academic and social standards for all students and encourages and, at times, reminds parents of their ultimate responsibility for their child's education - as it should be. The teachers and administrative staff are all top-notch and our children's academic results just keep getting better. We love Texas Empowerment Academy and would highly recommend it to any parent seeking an excellent and comprehensive education for their child(ren). |
| 8/23/2004 | parent | This is a great school, if you re a parent that wants to get involved with your child and be assured that they will get a great education. My daughter was having problems in school, the principle and the vice-principle had given up on my child and was ready to send her to a alternative school. But I knew that potential in my child, and in less that 4 years my child will be graduateting a year early, plus will have 30 to 32 hours of college credit because she has been able to participle in the dual credit program at ACC. T.E.A. has been a God sent, but as a parent I had to do my part, and T.E.A. did theirs. |

This school definitely motivates the children to work at a much higher level then they would in regular public school. The program is challanging and as a parent you have to be totally committed to your childs education because the level of work is not only challenging for the child, but the parent as well. The education and study skills that my child has learned will stay with her forever. The commitment and dedication of the principal and the teachers, and staff are clear from the minute you enter the campus. As a parent I would recommend the school to any parent if your child needs to be challenged academically. |

The principal was aware of what was going on and he had the attitude that would make you notice him and he made me feel good about the decision that I made for my daughter. For the most part this year was okay but the school has lost something. It is totally unorganized, a lot of the staff hardly ever smile or express a desire to understand the madness that sometime goes on. My daughter was singled out and at times talked to in a way that was totally out of line for any adult. If you want a child to respect you, you need to show that child some respect If you want to lower your child's self-esteem, send them to Texas Empowerment Academy aka Ghetto Central, teachers included. |

My two sons attended this school for four years and it really prepared them for re-entry to public school. The small class sizes helped them get the individualized attention they needed to perform well on standardized tests. Safety and discipline are a big factor at this school. |
