| 6/20/2012 | other | Bear Creek Elementary has teachers that are very patient and give students helpful individual attention. The staff is aways looking for new innovative ways to teach children. Facilities are clean. The children are usually excited about going to school each day. |
| 2/23/2011 | other | My Granddaughter is in the first grade at Bear Creek Elementary. They have a project "Around The World." The day they studied India, she came out of the classroom with a red circle between her eyebrows! This indicates Hindu religion. I have respect for everyone's religious beliefs. However, to "label" my Granddaughter with this red circle is out of line. What would have happened had she tried giving out stickers with the Bible and have them place that on their foreheads??!! I am awaiting a reply from the Administration. |
| 9/20/2010 | parent | Having two children who have been going here for the past few years I have seen serious inconsistencies in teaching and administration. After speaking with several parents and medical staff there seems to be a mantra by the teachers of give them pills . I would almost look to the pharmaceutical companies building new play grounds or wings of the school. (Joke, don t get all out of shape). Okay my kids may not be perfect all the time but many parents are now seeing this school as a major pharmaceutical pusher. I have met the principle and I can see why the management is lacking. She is rude and doesn t have much of a clue as to what is going on in the classroom. We are on a waiting list to get out of the school and into a new one. It is a shame our kids won t get to live and go to school with their neighbors. |
| 5/17/2010 | parent | My son has nearly completed Kindergarten and I have been very impressed with this school. His teacher (Mrs. Booker) has been outstanding and very patient with him. She keeps great control of the classroom (which is no easy task with 18 5-6 y/o running around) and teaches the kids responsibility and ownership for their actions. The principal and office staff have been very receptive to any concerns that I have had. I would highly recommend this school to anyone. |
| 10/23/2008 | parent | My child's first year at BCE. She loves it, I feel that the curriculum is not challenging enough. The spelling assignments are almost too easy. I suppose they make it that way for the poor/average learners to keep up, but in the process the brighter ones are left unchallenged, till they settle into a being just slightly above average. |
| 10/21/2008 | parent | We love BCE. Everyone including the front office staff are very helpful when asked questions. Would it however be too much for the front office staff, and teachers to smile? |
| 11/27/2007 | parent | I love this school. I've had three children come through Bear Creek. The teachers and staff are very caring and supportive. They make learning fun. The support staff is more than willing to help with any questions you may have. It is a real family enviroment. |
| 8/22/2007 | parent | Students are well educated but at great cost -- teachers will teach them what they need to do for the TAKS in the harshest of ways. TAKS test days are horrible--students are nervous, upset and sad. School is in lock down mode! Some kids stay until 7 at night trying to get down--ridiculous. Principal is the most unfriendly person I can ever imagine working in a school. A lot of good teachers but sorry PTA program. President doesn't even speak at meetings ?! Meetings provide absolutely no meaningful parent information. They just want you to help them raise funds for whatever they feel like spending money! |
| 8/22/2007 | parent | Excellent school w/ tons of caring for our kids, excellent teaching & behavorial lessons taught from all teachers at the school. The office staff is always friendly & helpful. Strong support from all parents to help make school the best learning environment. |
| 6/15/2006 | parent | Wonderful elementarty school that has done well with teaching well above his grade level, loads of parental involvement. |
| 12/27/2005 | parent | There seems to be a huge push to get test scores up no matter what. Teachers seems extremely stressed trying to get all the students where they need to be. There are not many extracurricular activities and front office women are unfriendly. Parent involvement is not encouraged or seems to be desired. Supposedly this is due to current principal. Most of the staff say the principal micro-manages too much and they aren't allowed to do what they want to do. A lot of yelling is done. Quite appalling to hear such stern, rude comments from teachers especially at the 5 year olds. They need to be reminded that kindness will get them farther than cruelness. If they don't want to teach, they need to move on. |
| 12/7/2005 | parent | Both of my children attend Bear Creek Elementary. They are happy with their teachers and enjoy PE, Spanish and Art classes. Although the classrooms are full with 20 kids in most all of the classes, the boys don't seem to mind. Of course, I would like to see less children in each class and hope a new kindergarten teacher is added (my son's kindergarten class has 22 now and will get another child next month). Overall, we are happy at Bear Creek. We would like to see more positive team work with the parents, teachers and staff. |
| 11/26/2005 | parent | Good school with excellent PAT program for the gifted and talented.Great teachers, specially Mrs.Diorio who teaches fifth grade. She is very dedicated, helpful and an excellent human being. My son is now in the middle school but yet recalls and uses many of the things she taught for time management, getting homework done, etc. In all she prepared the students well to enter and succeed in middle-school. |
| 8/21/2005 | parent | BCElem has great teachers and a very dedicated principal. Admin staff seems indifferent. Perhaps they're just really bogged down. Still, a smile can be comforting especially to a youn child. It would be nice of assignments and info was posted electronically by teachers and staff so parents could just 'check in' daily to see what's going on at the school. Please know that you won't find many involved parents. Sports and running here and there seems to be more of a priority than helping out with their child's school and attending PTA. Wish parents would rethink their priorities. |
| 5/18/2005 | parent | The teachers are very into the students and concerned with their success. The first contact points however are less than desireable: driving into the school in the am and after school is a nightmare (only one lane open), the person that coordinates the flow of traffic (the old woman) is always unfriendly and bitter and rarely smiles, the cross guard (the old man) is also unfriendly and seems to not know what he is doing or how to do it effectively, and the admin folks in the front office and unfriendly and do not seem enthused about their jobs. The Principle however is very nice and appears to be doing a great job with the teachers. Also, in this district (or school) there seems to be too many student holidays and half days for no odd reason, a big inconvenience for working families. |
| 5/18/2005 | parent | Average atmosphere, good teachers, spoiled students, excellent principal, nice area. |
| 1/23/2004 | parent | I wish this site was available when we moved here last year! I have had a very positive experience at this school with all the above categories. For you Non-Texans trying to evaluate where to relocate, Bear Creek is the only non Grapevine School in the Grapevine/Colleyvile School District. I live in Euless and was originally misdirected to the HEB District. That system is equally as good, but rates slighter lower on all academic categories. We have benefited from the great kid's programs at the Euless Recreation Center as well as all the activities offered at Bear Creek School. They also have before/after school care at Bear Creek Elem. Check for space availability. I found transitioning into the school during the Christmas break a little confusing. Teachers and administrators are fully planted into their routine by January and sometimes forget that everything is new to the person who relocates. I'd recommend asking the school office or your child's teacher for the original packet of info that was handed out to the parents in August. This will provide you with the basic class and school info/rules so you have a good foundation communication. Hope this helps! |
