| 10/29/2012 | other | Although I rate it 5 stars, I personally believe that this school is definitely NOT "the number 1(or 2) school in Houston" I believe that schools like Lanier or even Pershing outrank us. I agree with the person who write a review below me; that we do not have anything special about us. Lanier, for example. has a very good curriculum. As a student who finally got accepted into this 300-400 student school, I thought that this would be the best school in the city. I was wrong. I checked other school's websites and examined their homework and classwork. While we are still learning about the periodic table, protons, neutrons, and electrons, Lanier is learning about ionic and co-valent bonds. I am in 8th grade IPC class at the moment, and when I saw that, I was speechless. I thought to myself, "What on earth is that? Did we learn that? I thought we were more advanced then Lanier. How can we not learn that?" I read some of Lanier's IPC course some more. "Kinectic Molecular theory.. Phase Change diagram.." and I changed my mind. I recently learned that and had a test on it just a few weeks before Lanier did. Anyways though, my point is that we are not #1. Many schools teach the same thing. |
| 9/22/2012 | other | I went to Rogers, and I have quite a few things to say. Firstly, the education middle school students will receive at rogers is unparalleled academics wise. The teachers shine and really work hard to help the student body. There is lack of drug use or bullying or any of the things parents usually fear are associated with middle school. However, a lot of the really great teachers are leaving, and the new classes of students are really deteriorating in quality. And another thing- Rogers is strongly lacking in clubs and electives and anything that really makes it shine aside from plain academics. Lanier has debate. Pershing has sports. Pin Oaks has quiz bowl. Rogers kids think they're the best, and I used to also. But what they don't realize is that in high school, a lot of the kids that are stellar in leadership or clubs come from other schools. Rogers kids, in the end, just get good grades. The new introduction of the TPSP project at Rogers also lessens it's qualities. It wastes time and neither staff or student likes it. Students should learn more about current events and politics and global issues. There should be more clubs. It's a four stars, but not a five. |
| 8/29/2012 | other | T.H. ROGERS is the best school I have ever been to. It truly prepares you for anything, it might not be "cool" to have so much housework, but it in the long run you'll be thankful. The teachers are great, basically the best in academics, and you'll have an easy time making friends. It's small so you know everyone's name. I highly recommend this school! |
| 3/26/2012 | other | This school is the best and the teachers are okay lots of homework but sadly some people (students) are very mean they bully you and say that your stupid |
| 11/26/2011 | other | GO ROGERS! I went to Rogers and I'll tell you - this school is filled with some of the brightest kids in this city, state, perhaps nation. If you go to rogers, be proud! Sure, there's tonnnsss of tests and quizzes, and a great load of homework, but there's also cool stuff that's fun. The teachers that are the best are the ones who have been here longest. The friends you make here will last a lifetime, and i promise that when it comes to homecoming, you'll be hightailing back here (like i will this year!) For parents: rogers has great matriculation. We alumni go to bellaire, debakey, carnegie, hspva, and are the coveted students of the best local high schools. We compete against st johns in all types of things (and beat them, evn tho they're private) but when it comes to high schools, we're accepted. We go to some of the best high schools in the us, and later on to top colleges. The experiences your child will have at rogers will be unique and wonderful. The principals will know your child's name and the teachers are usually more than glad to help you. Sports nor academics nor clubs are lacking. Rogers is everything. GO ROGERS RAMSS!!!! |
| 10/26/2011 | parent | The Principals are awesome they take care of any issues quickly. Too many reading requirements of non-textbook type books. |
| 4/24/2010 | other | I went to T.H. Rogers and the teachers were great and I learned a lot and made lasting friendships. |
| 3/6/2010 | student | I am a student there and the homework is a stressload. But it all pays off!!While we barely get breaks of homework, tests, and quizzes it is fun!! The involvement of the teachers and staff and how much they care is pretty sweet! |
| 11/5/2009 | student | awesome school lots of home work but man! what a school and I am lucky to go there!!!!! |
| 7/27/2009 | student | Rogers is a fantastic school. There is a lot of homework and many projects, but it all pays off in the end. The work really is stressful but you sure learn a lot and it pays off in high school. The teachers are really good and they teach you really well. |
| 8/13/2008 | student | My experiance at this school has been great. It's definately challenging, but the teachers and staff are always there to help. Rogers is a fantastic enviorment in which to study and learn. Sadly, I will be leaving soon, but I know that this school will continue to help more students to be successful. |
| 1/9/2008 | student | This school has been of great benefits and has completely changed the way I learn and has definately opened up my studies and taken it to a new level. I thanks all of the staff and teachers there because they are all very wonderful and very supportive of my sport and schooling as well. The guidance there is amazing as well and you can totally count on them for a shoulder to lean on. This school should be rated 11 out of 10! |
| 11/28/2007 | parent | Both of my kids go to this school (K & 1st). It's been only 6 months since they started here but I already feel it's the best move we ever made. I am convinced that they are having the best education possible public or private. They have a chess program that is probably second to none. It is hard to believe but both my kids love playing chess now. They already tasted some success at city and state levels. |
| 11/19/2007 | student | It has an excellent program with amazing teachers to go along with it. The school really helped me in high school especially with writing, process, and organization. |
| 8/10/2007 | student | Being a recent graduate from Rogers' middle school, i can tell you it was a heck of an experience. awesome teachers, (ipc and algebra<--- hard) but worth it. the school is focused on preparing you for the future, highschool and college. Best school in Houston. |
| 6/24/2007 | student | this may be one of the hardest schools but it is the best in all houston. |
| 8/1/2006 | former student | Being a recent graduate from T.H. Rogers Middle School I have to say it is one of the best schools to prepare you for high school college later on. The teachers are nurturing and I have learned a lot in the three years in which I attended this school. Though students often face challenges, the teachers strive to help them succeed. Though music, art, and sports are limited due to the small population of the school still offers these to the students who wish to participate. We have an active PTO who have funded for our track, our renovated gym (which now includes AC), and much more throughout the many years. |
| 4/21/2006 | parent | This school is for gifted and talented children. I have found most teachers here to be very well trained in this area. The teachers really want the kids to succeed. If you tell them, for instance, that your child has ADD, they will work with him/her. My child hated working in groups, and when I talked to the teacher he said that they really needed to learn to do this...it was part of the curriculum. Was there a child that my child particularly liked and could work with....I named one, and the teacher made sure that my child was always at a table with this other child. My child was thrilled that the teacher made such an effort, and blossomed in this class. Strengths: asst. prin. for middle school, mid.sch. art teacher, IPC teacher, overall teacher quality, nurturing atmosphere. Weakness: poor quality substitute teachers. |
| 9/16/2005 | student | I just started middle school and I love it! I must say that there is a lot of homework and project, but other than that its great. The teachers are very nice and help you. |
| 6/26/2004 | parent | The best middle school is this end of the country either public or private. It is both a K thru 8 g/t program and a program for the most severly disabled students (separte classrooms). Odd but it works very well and makes for children who are well grounded as to what is important. Very hard to get into. Your four year old is tested and then admitted. Because very few students leave this excellent program only a few additional slots open (most in 4th and 7th grade). Enrollment is small around 600 total (g/t program) so the teachers know every child. Parents are encouraged to participate. The TIPS progam (out of Johns Hopkins and Duke) gives the SAT to 7th graders each year. T.H. Rogers and it's sister school Lanier M.S. have more students qualify then all of the rest of the schools (public and private). Great school. Apply early. |
| 8/10/2003 | parent | This is an excellent school for anyone's child to attend. My child enjoyed herself to the fullest and says she's never made friends like the ones she met while attending T.H. Rogers. |
