9/9/2010studentI am now a senior at Tivy High School and overall it really is an average school. The teachers try to make students succeed, but unfortunately, there is favoritism. Our football team is one of the best in state at the moment and that is what the town of Kerrville really cares about. Kerrville is a small town with nothing to really do but get in trouble. Tivy is not the best school academically, but we definitely overpower our closest school Ingram.
5/20/2010parentAlthough an excellent looking campus. The lack of funding at the local and state level is sub-par.Texas is continually reducing the schools budget, excluding Football.. the town offers nothing for teens, except bowling and movies. The administration is a farce with rules so difficult to follow the overall impression is one of prison... Favoritism reeks this is a school and a town of who you know and not of what you do! The education if you can get around the standardized setting.. is to teach the TAKS and be damned with an actual education.. teachers budgets are so low that they have to accept charity and grants to even get basic computers into classes. and if you are not into sports or theater.. forget advancing, no real science, no real engineering, and real education.. Unless you are a far right conservative stay away from Kerrville
5/21/2009otherTivy High School is a school that has several excellent organizations including the fine arts (band and choir) and athletics. The academics are average, mainly due to over emphasis on standardized testing. The administrative team is going through constant evolvment and seems to want to put kids first, but unfortunately puts the teacher's needs very low. I would say from many years of expereience with students attending Tivy High School, the school is still a good place to be but remember that active parent involvement is going to be needed to truly have great success.
4/18/2009otherI graduated last year and while I think there are things people shouldn't approve of (drop out rate) I don't think it's the school's fault. I went to another High School in San Antonio, Texas and both of the school's were quit different. Sometimes it takes being in a really bad school to know a good one when you get it. Mostly what makes a school is the student body in it, if you ask me. The teachers were nice and I never really noticed favoritism. I hung out with the wrong crowd but any trouble that I got myself into was done by my choosing. Kerrville is a small close minded town with conservative parents for the most part. You should figure that the kids are going to rebel and try to be as liberal and sometimes unagreeable as possible.
12/17/2008otherI went to Tivy all 4 years of High School and graudated in 2007. Although the teachers are on a huge power trip and the rules are ridiculous...I got my education and that's what matters. Although, there are plenty of other activities in the school other than football. Just saying.
12/10/2008parentIn my 10 years experience with KISD schools, there have been few genuinely caring teachers. KISD caters to the affluent families in the community and leaves the rest of us to fend for ourselves. The drop-out rate is in-excusable.
8/5/2008parentTIVY is a school with SPIRIT! It has produced many exciting individuals over the years. My son graduated from it and is currently in Tokyo. My daughter is a junior and actually loves going to school each day. The challenges and rewards are there if the students apply themselves. If they want trouble, they will find that too. But tha is true at any high school. The athletics at all levels are outstanding from the girls basketball team to the golf team to the 4-A football stars. Athletics promote responsibility and desires in students who want to achieve things. The AFJROTC in just two short years has earned state recognition in competition and has produced 4 top 5% students in the field of leadership. These kids are excited to be able to learn and show off what they have learned, to the city, county and the state of Texas.
10/12/2006studentI am only a sophmore at tivy.. I was only at tivy for a semester my freshmen year and so far i do not approve of this school. Teachers seek favortism, and they fear the people that they know nothing about. The school needs to open there eyes and look around and stop steriotyping the kids. Everything is spent on football, at least for the most part but the school needs to see that more activities other than just one have finacial needs. If you have many activities then they all deserve equal funding. Thats only fair! This is just my thoughts on what i see. peace!
8/24/2006former studentI attended a few high schools in Texas and this was by far the most challenging school I attended. This school is very safe to attend (no gangs) and one of the most school spirited in the state. It is not the biggest but it is certainly one of the best in the state. The regular classes here compare to the AP programs of other schools in the state
1/13/2006former studentFOOTBALL. That sums it up. This is a football school in a football town. Around 60% of the total district budget is spent on athletics and about 80% of that is spent on football. Nevermind the fact that the HS baseball team is developing a winning reputation statewide. HS theatre one-act is notorious for advancing to at least semi-finals, but football is more important.
10/14/2003otherI attended Tivy for 3 years and my junior year the hassles that i was going through daily finally took their toll. School are supposed to be safe, i shouldn't have to walk with someone everywhere i go so that something can be done. There should be a no tolerance rule. I now have to find an alternative school, which is coming to be hard to do. I once wanted to go to college then med school now everyday that passes that goal seems to be fading away slowly.
