| 9/14/2012 | student | Elkins High School may have been a great school in the past, but as of now, the teachers focus more on dicipline than on teaching, the students are out of control and disrupt every class I am in. The teaching has gone downhill at a fast rate. if I were to rate elkins highschool I wouldnt even give it one star. |
| 12/20/2011 | parent | Elkins is in my opinion the best high school in the district. Elkins students are all very accepting of new students, like my daughter. Clements on the other hand, has many students who are bullied daily. And chose to make fun of the students at Elkins as well calling them 'Ghetto'. |
| 2/11/2011 | other | I went to Elkins when I was a freshman and sophomore, and it was a totally better school than the one I'm attending currently. The administrators are nice most of the time, I had more friends there, and the academic quality was above average. |
| 2/5/2011 | parent | I had a daughter in this school for one year, and I agree with all the criticisms of the school administration. They do a terrible job. We moved to Clements & it was like night and day. |
| 2/23/2010 | parent | Their staff has no courtesy and their nures are very rude my child does not learn there. |
| 2/20/2010 | parent | Administration does nothing to help with either a special needs student, or a gifted/talented student, which i have both of..Have been trying for weeks to get a teacher to even call me on the phone to discuss childs progress...Its teaching to the lowest denominator in the class, and pushing along the students...I am extremely discouraged and am going to the school board with my concerns. |
| 1/11/2010 | student | I am a senior at Elkins, and I have had a great time over the past four years at the school. Although the rezoning after my freshman year may have hurt the school academically, the teachers are still top-notch, and the AP program is amazing. The facilities to succeed in various areas are thankfully still there for motivated students, without the cut-throat competition present at other schools like Clements. Frankly, I love it here, and I wouldn't have gone anywhere else. |
| 12/10/2009 | student | This was once a great school, both my sisters went here, and I was very excited to go as well after all the praise I heard about it. However, the atmosphere of the school has changed. What was once a fine learning institution is more rapidly becoming a prison more than anything else. This coming from an honor student with most upperlevel classes. I ended up transfering schools my junior year. It has definitely gone down hill since then. |
| 10/16/2009 | parent | The Elkins adminstration will present itself to parents as very helpful and not do a thing to change your child's circumstances. It is challenge to address concerns and resolve issues. |
| 8/15/2009 | student | Elkins is an all around cool school to go to, there are so many things to do, the teachers are cool, and the food isn't to shabby either. Though the building is a little older than other schools, it is still extraordinarily functional, and more than fun to explore:) Over all I am proud to be a knight |
| 7/30/2009 | parent | My son has attended EHS for the past 3 years, he will be a senior this upcoming 2009-2010 school year. I believe that Elkins has the right progamming in place for its students to be prepared for higher learning and beyond. However, I believe that only a small percentage of the students are actually motivated to take advantage of those opportunities. Unfortuanely my son was one of the unmotivated ones. He's done 'OK', but if he had really taken advantage of all that EHS has to offer, he would have created a lot more post-high school options for himself. Its too many 'unmotivated' students, and they are rubbing off on others and bring the campus down as a whole. |
| 12/1/2008 | student | I go to Elkins school and i love it......it is not just a fun school the people are very friendly if you carry yourself right.........I only been going there for about 3 Months and i can say I like all my teachers...no i don't agree with everything that they do but hey that is at any school you go to. |
| 11/5/2007 | other | Elkins is an awesome school. They have one of the top college prep programs with readily available tutors for students willing to participate. |
| 9/28/2007 | parent | Elkins is a welcome change. She [daughter] is doing great and making friends and really likes all her teachers. They all so far seem to be great. |
| 3/29/2007 | parent | My son is at Elkins. He is in the band and has had an good beginning in his first year at the school. He has felt very safe and very well cared for at the school. Academically, he is as challenged as he as ever been. But, this year he had an accident after school on campus. It was his fault (he was on his skateboard in the parking lot.) The school acted quickly in obtaining emergency medical treatment for him, possibly saving his life. I cannot say enough good things about how the situation was handled. The administrators and medical personel were summoned and took care of him until help arrived. The administrators were in constant contact with me the entire time. Everything was handled with the utmost professionalism and genuine care for my child. This is an outstanding school with excellent staff and administration. |
| 12/24/2006 | teacher | My experience as a parent is that it promotes academic rigor, and an environment that communicates 'we're the best at what we do'. If your child is a 'discipline problem', please talk to him/her before enrolling them. Administrators and teachers are very 'by the book' when it comes to discipline and there's not much compassion for personal outside issues (divorce, recent move, etc.) that somehow manage to affect your child at school. Again, this has been my experience. I can say that all of my child's teachers seem to genuinely care about my child excelling academically; they don't cut a lot of slack. |
| 11/6/2006 | parent | My third child is attending Elkins now, and I feel she has great teachers. They provide tutorials and assistance when needed. Elkins provides a variety of extracurricular activities and I have seen great parent involvement this year. It has new administration and they seem to be working well together. Her sisters are in college now and I feel they were well prepared to be successful in college. |
| 5/16/2006 | parent | Elkins is a very bad school and I am taking my child out because their are alot of problems there and my child and others seem not to learn nothing. |
| 5/13/2006 | parent | Elkins High School opened in the Fall of 1992. From the beginning it has been a 'Castle of Champions'. Notable accomplishments include 2 UIL State Academic Championships, two Baseball state championships, and numerous district championships in academics, athletics, and fine arts. In the 1999-2000 school year Elkins became a Texas Recognized School and in 2000-2001 became a Texas Exemplary School. Elkins High School was named a 2001-2002 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Elkins High School a supportive learning environment, provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become productive, responsible and successful members of society. |
| 4/13/2006 | parent | I have been very pleased with this school. Good principals and teachers that truly care about your child. The academic courses are on par with private schools. My only problem is they don't have buses to take the students home from after school activities, debate, band, sports etc. Parents have to pick up their students and sometimes they have kids staying hours after they are finished. |
| 2/3/2006 | student | It's okay. If you are a very face-paced learner, I wouldn't recommend this school. There are some great teachers there, though. If you take algebra 2, make sure you get ms.Thompson. |
| 11/14/2005 | student | Academic Programs are great. They have lots of extracurricular activities. The parent involvement is kind of low. |
| 10/23/2005 | student | It is a pretty good school. Some of the courses are challenging and others are not. |
| 9/1/2005 | former student | Solid, all around academic environment with an excellent sports program. Plenty of extracurricular activities for all students with different interests. |
| 9/27/2004 | parent | This is a wonderful school. The administration is very supportiveand prepared for standardized test. They give the kids every opportunity to acheve their goals. |
| 9/22/2004 | parent | We love Elkins! It has proven to be a very happy, healthy high school experience. My child is getting a wonderful education and being encouraged by his teachers to be the best he can be. The faculty is always willing to help and encourage the kids to take the most challenging courses, while still offering their understanding and help. I am confident that my child will look back on his high school years and remember them fondly. |
| 8/26/2003 | former student | I went to Elkins and I learned so much from that school. The teachers are great and they understand where your coming from. The overall staff at Elkins is wonderful if u had to do it all over again I would |
