1/3/2012parentWe have found our time at Boggess to be enjoyable and rewarding. In addtion to academics the school offers Art, Music, and Library once a week and PE/Fitness twice a week at all grade levels. We moved from a school district and state where none of the above is offered. Library time is not just going and looking at a book, the Librarian teaches about types of literature, how to find books in a library, how to conduct research using Library resources, etc. The PTA sponsors after school activities for those families interested; Chess, Drama Kids, Science, etc. There are plenty of opportunities for parent involvement. From our experience each students needs are taken into individual account. If there is a concern that my childs needs are not being met the teachers have been more than happy to discuss. I enter the school on many occasions quite early to help out, I often help with things after school, I frequently see teachers in early and staying late to work with students who need some extra time. I call this dedication. There is a strong emphasis on the teaching of respect, respect for self and for others. I find this to be the basis of the discipline philosophy
1/2/2012parentBoggess is fantastic! We are in our last year this year and will miss the teachers, the office team and all the wonderful parents that volunteer everyday. What a a great experience for the kids! There is a statewide focus on "teaching to the test" - this school is no different than any other blue ribbon or exemplary school. They do a very nice job of managing different personalities and talents. We were lucky to end up in this school district!
11/18/2011teacherThe teachers are busy socializing and planning the next wine party, that they can't cover the topics.
10/23/2011parentThe principal was removed from the school and replaced. I hope the new principal can clean things up. The superintendent has resigned. Now the school district needs to do away with the math curriculum.
7/9/2011parentBoggess is Great!! We have two students in Boggess, one entering 3rd grade and one entering 5th. We have really found that community involvement is great, with one of the highest PTA membership in the area. We always take the time to volunteer, and always find several volunteers daily. The Principal is an outstanding leader and role model for the kids! We have always found that counselors, teachers and nurses are easily reachable and will communicate to daily needs! Outstanding group of people! And our kids are doing really well!
2/25/2011parentThe test is all that matters to them. This school teaches to the test, not to the child needs or learning style. They put on a nice face though. There is no real care or concern for the kids, they have a certain mold that a child must fit into. They will not change even to meet a childs needs. The teachers are drill instructors and It's atmospher reminds me of a milatry school. Do not put a toe out of line. The school's attitude / answer to parants is to spank - "spare the rod, spoil the child" I am really tried of hearing "bible sermons". I have my own pastor to give me biblical guidence. If a teacher's personality / teaching style does not fit with your child, when you ask to switch the answer is no - they know best... no discusson... do not disagree.... ever Your child then becomes a target. When you discuss your child - they do 99.9% of the talking, you may be allowed to get in a word or two. Just say yes sir, and do as they say. If I could give them negative stars, I would.
8/22/2010parentCall me crazy, but 15 NEW teachers this year?! That sends a LOT of red flags to me as a parent. My son has been going here since kindergarten and only one of his teachers is still here, and she was our least favorite! He brought this to my attention on meet the teacher night. When I approached the principal about this, he said that they were not forced to leave and that their lives just took them different places. Thanks, but that's NOT what I asked. I asked why they left, not if they were forced out or not, which leads me to believe that they were. After a little research, they are all still teaching in the area! So, what does that tell me as a parent? thank God this is my son's last year here. Go to Martha Hunt if you can, great school!
4/28/2010parentMy son is in kindergarten and he is having a fantastic year in Miss Boedecker's class. I'm sure all the teachers are great but do whatever you have to do to get your child in her class. He talks about her constantly and has learned so much. I was worried about him before he started because he tends to be a little shy but she got him out of his shell. Everyone in the office also seems very friendly and helpful. This is a great school!
1/12/2010parentOutstanding school with great teachers and administration. Our little boy in Kinder absolutely loves school and his wonderful teacher, Molly Hickman. I would absolutely recommend this school to everyone.
12/18/2009parentmy child has been here K-5 and they said that it's very fun and they also include tutoring
1/21/2008parentMy son started kindergarten at Boggess the first day that it opened 6 years ago. Every day since then has been a joy! It's an amazing school full of fantastic teachers and a caring staff. They do everything that they can to be sure that your child will excel. It is a warm, loving learning environment. We hate to 'graduate' from 5th grade and move on to middle school! You are so lucky if your child gets to attend Boggess.
2/28/2007parentI have three children who have attended Boggess. Coming from a private school background, Boggess is an absolutely wonderful public school. The principal is thoughtful and caring. He knows the children by name and takes time to speak to them in the halls. He visits each student on his/her birthday, making the children feel very special. I've only had one problem that required his attention, and he handled the situation quickly and fairly. The teachers are young, but in some ways I think this is good. Younger teachers more easily adapt to change and tend to 'think out of the box' when it comes to educating. The cultural diversity of the Boggess community is very unique and enhances the overall student experience. The principal embraces the parent/teacher partnership.
2/24/2007parentPrincipal tells parents what they want to hear. Teachers are young and inexperienced... although my children had two really good ones... unfortunately both were forced into early retirement. I'm not aware of extracurricular activites... parent involvement is okay if you like clicks. Disapline is good, but some consequences I don't agree with take away recess is a poor consequence in my opinion... kids don't wear helmets while riding bikes to school (more of a parental issue I guess) still schools should educate children about bike safety, something more than the bike rodeo.
7/31/2006parentThe school offers wonderful opportunities for the children. However, because of a legislative loophole many experienced teachers were forced to retire so that they could obtain social security. Now there a many young, inexperienced teachers.
3/5/2006parentBogess is a real good elementary school
3/31/2005parentfantastic school, both of my children love it here, the teachers are very involved with the parents and really keep you informed.
