| 5/23/2011 | parent | As a military child, my son has attended 4 elementary schools in 4 states and he is in 4th grade. I am a very involved parent and volunteered 2 days a week at Walton for the entire 6 months my son attended while my husband was at his career course. I can honestly say that I was overjoyed to leave when our time was over in VA. This school lacks a friendly, energetic, or positive atmosphere. The curriculum is subpar in comparison to other schools in the nation and even VA. The environment can be changed depending upon who the teacher is but the curriculum will continue to lack as long as the administration remains the same. |
| 9/12/2010 | parent | My Son goes to Walton & He loves it. I love the teachers & the staff that are at Walton. I couldnt ask for him to be at a better school. My Daughter will be attending Walton next year & is already excited about going. |
| 4/27/2010 | parent | My daughter has had a wonderful year in Kindergarten. She has come so far over the course of the year, her teacher is an absolute saint!! Walton has been a great school for her! |
| 9/3/2009 | parent | Like everything in life this school has its strengths and weaknesses. Most of the teachers there are super people who really care about their students. Unfortunately I have experienced 2 bad ones in my years with this school and when I say bad I mean HORRIBLE! The sad thing is the administration will do NOTHING when you voice your concerns about these issues. This school is quick to want parental involvement when it is to their benefit but slow to get involved when you are not happy with the way your child is treated. So if you are looking for a parent friendly school like Chesterfield schools then this is not the place for you. I have never gotten to go on a field trip with my kid because the teachers pick who they want and usually it is someone they already know in the community. |
| 6/10/2009 | parent | My son goes to Walton since 2006, we thought that it was an OK school at the time, but know we are very happy and pleased, they got a new principal, and she is giving more than 100 % to lift the school. Now kids and staff are the main priority and everybody works very hard to raise the level and grades. |
| 6/8/2009 | parent | My son is at Walotn and my husband and I couldnt be happier. I was amazed to see all of the negative comments. I have been involved at Walton for 5 years now and 3 different admistrations- all have been very different and all have had positive aspects to their leadership. Unfortunately, often people who are mad and negative speak for the majority. If you are stationed at Fort Lee, I highly recommend that you visit Walton and not take the word of several of these comments. We have loved all of my sons teachers! Walton's teachers are providing a sound base of education to the youth of tomorrow! |
| 6/8/2009 | parent | We moved to PG so our kids could get a better education. I have a gifted child and an ADD child with speach and reading difficulties. I was very concerned about my ADD child falling behind in the PG schools but thought it was the best thing for our gifted child. Both of my kids have had a great year and received everything (plus some) that a parent could ask for. Last week I received an email from the teacher saying that my child was going to have all A's on his report card for the 4th 9 weeks and I began to cry. I was so thankful that he didn't get pushed between the cracks. I thank all of the great staff for not overlooking the average or underaverage kids and helping them to acheive and become over acheivers so they are not left behind. Thank you Walton staff. |
| 6/4/2009 | parent | I have twin girls in second grade. We are a military family that moved here well into the fall of 2008 already knowing we would be moving yet again to another state come June. I was dreading spending just a portion of a year at a new school! Let me be the first to tell you, the teachers each of my twins got were above and beyond exceptional! Each teacher is completely engaging, pushes students to excell, and shows so much interest in each and every child they teach. We were more than lucky to be at Walton and have such caring teachers! |
| 6/4/2009 | parent | I have 2 children who attend Walton Elementary. We have been very happy with the school and its staff:-) |
| 5/28/2009 | parent | My family has been very satisfied with Walton. I have 3 chidren and have had different teachers on all grade levels- I have been very happy with all of their teachers. The school building is older and the cafeteria is loud, but kids need time to talk and socialize also!...When we moved, I choose to stayin Walton District. I hope parents who are not happy- have actually observed classrooms. I see lots of interaction! |
| 5/27/2009 | parent | My son's teacher is great, no complaints there. The rest of the school needs major improvements. The cafeteria staff speaks to the children as if they were animals, constantly screaming 'kindergarteners, sit down and put your heads on the table!!!' Speech therapy is a joke. I requested an evaluation on the first day of school and my son was not started until april. Can't wait to move!!! |
| 5/26/2009 | parent | I Have loved the time my son has spent at Walton. We have been to several schools and Walton is at the top of my list. I feel that the teachers I have come incontact with have been exceptional. Maybe the parents that have not been satisfied have not been at the school and involved. |

| 5/26/2009 | parent | I am the parent of a student at Walton this year. He has two of the best teachers at Walton, one of which my daughter had two years ago. I have been extremely pleased with the outcome of various situations that have come up this year. The principal has been continually pleasant to work with and my son's teachers are very attentive to the needs of their students. We have had an extremely good experience at Walton. |
| 5/22/2009 | parent | Teachers are undertrained about different learning styles and do not venture to raise childrens interest in their subjects. There is very poor teacher parent communication. I think that your satisfaction with this school will strongly depend on what teacher your child has. The content of what is being taught is not bad, but the methods are terrible. I feel as if the school is not proactive on resolving issues. |
| 5/18/2009 | parent | I think has walton is lacking in many ways to include academics. Having said that, they have a principal this year who seems to really care about the kids and school. Refreshing... Lets hope she can turn it around. |
| 8/31/2008 | parent | I have 2 honor roll syudent going to school here and think its a wonderful school. If your child was on honor roll at another school and isint at this school, dont get upset, this is one of the best school systems around. its a little harder than most. |
| 8/24/2008 | parent | This school is terrible. I would love to move that is not an option for us. The principal is rude to parents and doesn't seem to care about the children. If you have problem he doesn't care. I think the teachers are ok depending on if your child gets the right teacher. some are good others don't even know what they are doing. I think if this school had a different principal things would be different. If you are moving to Prince George don't move to this school district. This is school is terribly over crowded. There were 23 students at one time during the year in her class last year. The classrooms are so small they probably should only hold up to 15 students. When i tell people what school my daughter goes to i get oh she goes to walton i'm sorry. that should tell you something. |
| 2/18/2008 | parent | I won't even bother giving it one star because we just came from one of the nation's best schools where I had 4 honor roll students and now they are all 4 flunking! Overcrowded, underfunded and undertrained comes to mind when dealing with the schools in this county. I will be homeschooling this year. |
| 10/14/2007 | parent | I am a parent of two children currently at Walton and am very pleased at the progress they have made. I find the staff at Walton to be pleasant, respectful, and kind. I have always been able to communicate effectively with the teachers to solve any minor issues that I have had. My children have been happy with their teachers and their academic environment in general. We, as a family, have traveled to and lived in many places, and our children have gone to several schools. Walton is among the best! I would like to see more parent involvement. So much more could be accomplished at Walton if every parent gave a little of their spare time. A little effort makes a big difference. Kudos to the staff! Keep up the good work. |
| 7/18/2007 | other | I would recommend that if your child is assigned to Walton that you stop by and see the school for yourself. All schools have things that they can improve on and Walton's administration and teachers are doing a good job. |
| 3/9/2007 | parent | Terrible...Fundraiser every time you turn around. Where is the money going? The school looks terrible. Staff not friendly at all. Can't wait to PCS from this school system. I hate the fact that they do things where if the kid doesn't sell, buy a yearbook in time or whatever they have going on they don't get a pizza party etc. |
| 2/27/2007 | parent | This is our first year at Walton and I am very disappointed in the staff. The first day of school was the worst nightmare as my husband and I realized that there was no organization to the busses. The person at the school who came on the bus to take the younger children off didn't even locate my child on the bus. He came off with the older children and stood there lost and confused. My husband and to go to him and guide him to where he was supposed to go. Secondly, I had to start volunteering in my son's class to get results and even that was an event. The class misbehaved constantly and the teacher couldn't control her children. The school doesn't seem to take many situations seriously and needs to address many issues to bring up moral in teachers and confidence in their parents. |
| 11/16/2006 | parent | I am very concerned about the extremely poor leadership that this elementary school. |
| 12/30/2005 | parent | I am a mother of 2 children that attend walton's special needs program. I have had a very hard time with this school and the teacher in the special needs program. This school needs alot of work. The principal and vice principal from last year was horrible. I have not had alot of contact from this years principal or vice principal. Parent involvement seems to be discouraged. When there is an urgent need, the office staff is rude. When I had problem last school year and needed to speak with the principal right away, I was told to hold on and the office staff told the vice-principal that there was an irrate parent. When asked what the problem was, the office worker says 'I don't know, probably nothing major, but she wants to make a big deal out of it.' Overall walton is terrible. I will remove my children asap. |
| 12/4/2005 | parent | Ok School Staff is not particularly friendly. Classrroms are old. |
| 11/3/2005 | parent | I moved out to the county with the impression that all of the county schools were outstanding. This is not the case. My daughter is a kindergarten student and I am very displeased with I have seen so far. Also, lunch is a very disorderly process for students. Next, the office staff is extremely rude and unfriendly to parents seeking assistance. After this year my daughter will not return! |
| 8/20/2005 | parent | The teachers at Walton are outstanding. That being said, discipline on the buses is nonexistent, the office staff is rude to teachers and parents, and the cafeteria food is lousy. Hopefully the new administration can give the teachers the support they deserve while fixing some of the other issues. |
| 6/5/2005 | parent | My son came to Walton midyear and I have been very disappointed with the overall school. My son feels he can never meet his teacher's standards. He receives no positive feedback on his class papers except for check marks and an occasional star. He has passed all SOLs - mastered most of them. I'm confused if the Asst. Principal is the Principal. As parents, we have little to no interaction with my son's teacher except if we schedule a conference or attend a social event. The pickup process is inconsistent; it depends who is standing outside. If we were to stay here longterm, I would put my son in a private school. |
| 5/25/2005 | parent | First, let me say I have little experience in the education system as a parent, my only child is just finishing kindergarten at Walton this year. With this in mind, I'll simply mention the issues I've noticed this year. 1.) On her first day, ALL bus assignments were incorrect AND her bus driver missed our house. 2.) We receive notification of events or fund raising with less than one week to respond usually and never more than two. 3.) On more than one occasion we have been billed for books my daughter has never seen but supposedly checked out from the library. She is an avid reader and very conscious of books so I trust her on this point implicitly. There are several other issues like the time the office called to ask why she wasn't there when she really was. Overall, the leadership is lacking and these are the trickle down effects. |
| 2/24/2005 | teacher | Walton really needs work. The Office staff has the worst customer service I have seen in quite sometime. There needs to be some sort of training offered to them to show them how to treat parents as well as the students. I was told that this school was one of the best in PG county but upon my arrival here I must say that is not so. This school needs an overall makeover starting with the leadership and working its way down to the teachers. |
| 2/11/2005 | parent | Walton does not compare to the other elementary schools in PG. The children are not treated with respect at all. The administration demonstrates poor leadership. The office personnel are not friendly. The cafeteria personnel speak to the children very ugly. I wish Walton had the kindness and consideration the other elementary schools have in PG. |
| 8/2/2004 | parent | Walton needs work in seveal areas. The Principal needs to be more aggressive and involved. Several teachers have left this past year because of the leadership at Walton. The PTSO needs a new president and better guidance. There is a huge lack of communication in the group. Walton is not the best school in PG county with low SOL scores and not the best quality in teachers and I am highly disappointed in what I have seen and experienced for my child. |
| 7/22/2004 | parent | Walton needs smaller classes and all the main subjects should be taught in the morning instead of the afternoon. This could help with the SOL's |
| 4/18/2004 | parent | I think that they should make the assisant principle in charge of everything. She has her stuff together and is a very kind person. |
