| 4/18/2012 | parent | This is my son's 3d year at Lowes Island Elementary. We are extremely happy with his school, he is always happy to go back there, he is actually upset when he needs to miss a day even because of the sickness. The teachers are very caring, friendly and approachable, the principle and assistant principle are always friendly. We never had any issues or any concerns. The school is very technologically advanced (as far as classrom equipment, etc), very clean, inviting and bright. The front desk ladies, the nurse, councelors - every one is so exceptionally great, I can't say enough good words about them. We have been very very happy with this school! |
| 3/26/2012 | parent | This school is very weak in leadership, in other words the principal and assistant principal don`t treat all students and their famiies the same way, and their rules do not apply to all students the same and on a fair basis. They have very friendly appearance at first but if a student can not be perfect in a field, , they just want to get rid of her instead of helping her , just to keep their school on the TOP!! Despite having strong academic curriculum, I had the worse experience for my daughter at this school. Hope county pay attention to these matters. |
| 10/2/2011 | parent | The fact that I grew up myself in Loudoun County I expected this school to be one of the top notch schools in the area. My sons teacher was wonderful until there required some actual effort in assisting his education. Barely through KG we hoped the next year would be more smoother. We spent the first few months adjusting to 1st gr schedule until it became evident that they were incapable of dealing with students that required additional attention. Apparently the only thing this school IS good at is suspension for lack of ability to control a situation. My son was suspend over 6 times for inability to listen or follow rules. We were informed of a way of monitoring the students which never happened. My son was expelled from the school being told he needed to repeat the grade. Switching schools to find out that he was indeed at/above grade level was what we needed to find out that perhaps the lack of desire to deal with semi-problematic students is LIES downfall. If your child requires more attention than the average steer far away from Lowes Island. Their inability to mediate between student and parent is a disgrace to all of the Loudoun County School District. |
| 6/23/2011 | other | I began my attendance at Lowes Island they year the school opened. I've been through many schools and school districts and Lowes Island and Loudin County schools are by far the best I have experienced. The teacher's involvement in their students education along with their personal investment of devotion to each and every student really sets this school apart. Every education at Lowes Island cares deeply about education and enriching the lives of young people. My teachers and Principal at Lowes Island had a deep impact on me and my education. I would not only send my children to this school, I would proudly teach and work among the faculty and staff at Lowes Island Elementary. |
| 2/16/2011 | parent | We moved to Lowes Island this past year, and were a little worried about how the quality of the elementary school would compare to the private school our children attended last year. I must say, my worries were completely gone within the first few weeks of school. Both of my children's teachers are incredible! They are so warm and attentive, yet command respect from their classes. (Not an easy task with 23-27 kids in a class.) They are also great at giving each kid extra help when they're struggling. It makes me happy to see teachers who still love what they do, as it makes such a big difference in the classroom. I wish the classes were smaller, but the numbers are pretty standard in this area I think. Overall, we're really happy with our experience at Lowes Island so far. |
| 10/4/2010 | parent | I am moving to the Lowes Island area and have transfered my children to Lowes Island Elementary. I was so amazed by the front office staff and how helpful they were. |
| 9/23/2010 | parent | Study tracks commensurate with your child's learning abilities. Tremendous parent involvement. Teachers who genuinely care. |
| 7/1/2010 | parent | I had two children at the school. For one, it was great, the other we had to put in private school because the administration didn't handle serious bullying issues in the classroom. If your child is at all at risk for being bulled, you must AVOID this school at all costs. Also, there is a serious amount of teacher turnover, which says to me that the teachers know there is a problem with the administration. Teachers have even told me that they know the principal is weak and ineffectual -- basically "retired in place." This may have been a great school before its current prinicipal took over. It's not a great school now. |
| 4/8/2010 | parent | Very disappointed in how the administration handles teachers that don't make the grade and there are quite a few of them. Very snobby parents that think their children can do no wrong even when they're told that their child is bullying another. It's always 'not my child.' Doesn't seem to be any consequences for actions at this school. |
| 1/8/2010 | parent | There are many great teachers at this school. Having said that I must now say that I have a proplem with the administration. One of my children was being bullied and having problems. The Admin made many blunders but the final straw occured when the Guidance Councelor was called to the room twice in one day regarding bullying incidents perpetrated against my child. We recieved a call 4 days later. We have moved from this community that we love due to lack of trust in the admin. |
| 5/20/2009 | parent | I have 3 children at Lowes Island. The principal is second to none. He is present at all functions and active in the kid s school lives. The kids love him. The teachers are great. Most are young and full of energy. They work hard and are always available. Children are challenged and disciplined. The Admin staff is responsive and friendly. I am so happy we live here. The kids are doing great. We have a very active parent population. This is very stable and desirable neighborhood and school that places an emphasis on education. The area is well-off and high-end, yet folks are down to earth and not snobby. |
| 2/14/2009 | parent | Great teachers, lots of activities during and after school. Very accessible administration. |
| 9/12/2008 | parent | My first son went from Kinder through 5th and it was a great experience, great teachers and a great environment. My youngest son will do the same in a few years. We would not move out of Lowes Island because of this school alone. |
| 9/4/2007 | parent | This is 3rd year for my daughter at Lowes Island. We love the school. It has great programs, good leadership, active involvement by parents and great staff. |
| 4/2/2007 | parent | Excellent school. Top education, great scores, caring teachers, volunteers galore, involved parents, |
| 3/15/2004 | parent | Great school! I have two daughters in 1st and 3rd grades and am amazed at how fast they've progressed so far during the year. |
| 6/21/2003 | | I have two children at this school. Both are doing very well. Teachers try and challenge the bright kids, they pay special attention to those that need it, yet manage to keep the whole class challenged. It is a wonderful environment for any child to grow and learn. |
