We're well-informed of the goings on at the school, between notes home, automated phone calls, website updates and personal e-mails from teachers. We're also able to check our son's daily assignments, grades, and attendance online. This information is updated daily, and has been a valuable tool. Any time I have contacted a teacher, the principal, or the superintendent, I have received a helpful response the same day. Students can take a string instrument or sing in 5th grade. Band is offered in 6th. My son chose orchestra, and 1.5 years later, he still truly enjoys it. In 6th grade students have the opportunity to take Spanish and Gateway To Technology (GTT). GTT is a pre-engineering course, teaching teamwork and problem solving in exciting ways. Another bonus at the school is the high level of racial diversity. These kids seem MUCH LESS affected by color as previous generations, which is a lesson I don't think you can learn from a textbook. My only personal issue is parental involvement. Although I've often offered to volunteer, I've never been asked to help out. Regardless, my son is happy and doing well at BDMS, so I'm happy also. |

The Middle School also has a community feel and everyone is invested in the education of all children, especially the teachers. We have been surprised about BD as we were planning on moving but will stay the course because the schools and teachers truly have made a difference in our child's life. |

The school has all of the latest technology for students to use and the facilities are very inviting. There is a lot of opportunities for parent involvement at Brown Deer Middle School and the diversity of the student body is a real plus for the students. |
